Both of those can be given on SG though, that reduces the chances of a mistake a bit.

Oh, yeah! Just what we needed! /s
Now key hoarders "generous gifters" can give others a chance at winning a freebie by masquerading it as a good (or not?) old game.

Many honest mistakes are made as well. The titles is the exact same, and nobody will look at the appID. It's almost like the Dark matter problem, only this time the "correct" game was a freebie, so many won't even realise that there are two games with the exact same title, and they are selecting the wrong one…

Whoever chooses the wrong one is not smarter than a 5th grader.

This pretty much.

Whoever will choose the wrong one will probably do that intentionally, to get (unbundled) CV for a freebie.

The other one is not on the giveaway list. There is no "wrong one", when you create a giveaway, only one shows up with this title.

Except that, whoever has a key for the free one, surely got it from some gleam giveaway, and thus they should know that they can't make a giveaway for it.

It is in the OtakuMaker ReBundle #2 right now…

Oh, crap!
But, seeing that a different image comes up when writing the game's name should at least ring a warning bell...

Should, but, again, I'm sure you met quite a few games that look totally different in their small banner. But yes, it should.

When I create a giveaway, I always click the Steam store link on the list, to make sure it's really the game I have a key for.
I also thoroughly check the list to search for the correct version, and that's how I discovered that Euro Truck Simulator is banned...

If it's not original Jules Verne, it doesn't count

Yeah when I saw the newer game on Steam I was immediately reminded of that older game. It's an okay adventure game.

Titles have to be registered to be protected, and need someone to enforce that protection.
Valve doesn't give a shit what title you give a game and nobody checks for possible problems.
Add this together, and we have this and the two Dark Matter games.

The difference is that this wasn't just a random name choice by a dev but is instead based on a pre-existing work

Okay, it didn't turn out to be too bad, only 8 fake giveaways have been created so far, and 6 of them were deleted after notifying the creators.

Maybe we need a pop up message with a warning when trying to make a gib for this, could prevent a lot of headaches for the staff.

There even was a user who, on top of a fake giveaway for this game, created 2 for the game "Freebie", that was given away on gleam just yesterday. He deleted all 3 of them after being notified, I wonder if he'll make a thread about not having giveaway slots anymore...
