Have played the game some time its enjoible until you see that most of the planets are the simply the same stuff, nothing really different. The game has also extremly much micromanagement. at the biginn of the game its ok, but afterthat it feels terrible.

I would say so. They really improved it since that crappy release. If you like survival games, You'll like it just fine.

I don't own the game but I've followed their progress since release. I'd say it's worth the money. I've actually been tempted by the same deal, but I have the usual worry about seeing it in the next Humble monthly.

I'm probably getting it at the price....was just interested what others thought that had perhaps played it recently.
I hear what your saying about a bundle but I doubt it any tine soon. this is the lowest price it has gone to....apart from couple of sales I think it's been £40

I haven't played much as i hadn't the time to realy get into it. The first few hours of the game are a bit annoying and the tutorial is very very crappy. Once you get a grasp on the basic mechanics it is a very smoothing game. It feels very similar to euro truck where it is incredibly relaxing going from point A to point B.
In my opinion while the game doesn't reach the hight it promised it is still a fun exploring game.

I hope you're right! I keep holding out on buying it in sales because of this.

It just so happens that I wrote a review for it a few days ago.

It's not as long a read as it appears to be. Take 2 minutes and get a good idea of my personal opinion of the game.

Mully got it for me as a birthday gift at release, and I enjoyed the crap out of it (for 41 hours so far, anyway).
I haven't even tried the new stuff they added yet, so I can only imagine it's even better now. Mental note: reinstall and play the new content.
If you like exploration games (emphasis on exploration - there's a lot of it in the game), I think you'll enjoy it. There's just something very cool about landing on strange worlds, shopping for new ships, and putzing about in space. :D

It's good for some exploration and build a few bases, ofc the planets end up similar after you see a dozen of them. But I'd say that 60% off is around what it's worth to me because I really love these types of collecting/looting/exploration games.

Some people whose opinions I consider very highly, have been willing to support the game since the first major update, and have been fairly enthusiastic about the game with subsequent updates. They have however cautioned that the game is one of those where you need to be a fan of exactly what it offers (versus "Oooh, shiny big-name game must be all-around appealing!"), but state that it's now quite fun for what it does (and its community does seem to keep things interesting).
Googling up recent reviews, it does look as though bugs may still a big issue with the game, and that there are some concerns with the NEXT update bugging out existing game data (which should be irrelevant to new players, however, and the update itself seems very well received). I'm not seeing much criticism about the content anymore, outside of the occasional "Meh, not for me" one.
In short, if you're really sure you'd enjoy exactly the kind of content that NMS has to offer, and you're not too concerned with potential bugs, then the game probably'll manage to meet your expectations now. As far as the price, that's not really something we can determine for you- personally, I usually use $12 as my uppermost margin for games, but that's also reflective of my own budget limitations.
As a general rule of thumb, compare the price of any one item against everything else you'd typically buy at that price range, and gauge if you think your enjoyment and benefit to lifestyle would be comparable between the various items. For example, $12 is about the cost of a basic cake. Games are great, but how many can compare to cake, right? $12 is also the typical starting range for entertainment (play, concert, theater, etc) tickets, so it makes for a good consideration point for basic entertainment comparisons.
$20-25 is a more reliable ticket price range, and also where you start being able to consider basic appliances and the like, along with hobby purchases such as cheaper board games or basic sports equipment, and, most importantly, even better cakes; So there's even more to consider, as far as NMS's current price is concerned.
Winter is typically (but not absolutely) a better time for sales, however, so if you're on the fence, then it may be better to wait and see what winter sales bring. Autumn sales should be soon, as well, for an earlier consideration. Meanwhile, if you do decide to buy it now, then it may be worth considering if you're at all into this month's Monthly- the 10% store discount that being a subscriber gets you would effectively be a 2.50$ discount off your total between the two purchases.

fwiw, I have 550+ hours in NMS and I greatly enjoyed it - just the wandering and exploring. It was my game of the year over the last year. I'm waiting on patches before starting a new game on the NEXT release yet, but suspect I'll get several 100 hrs more out of it. Be aware that NMS is extremely open world (and while there is a main questline I've never finished it). From conversations in the forums I suspect that gamers who prefer games with well defined objectives and goals might not like it as much as players who just like to run around doing their own thing.
One other thing I've noticed: I think older gamers might like NMS better than younger gamers. I was on a thread talking about the game and many of us thought this was the game we'd been wanting to play since we were little. Somehow age came up, and almost all of us were over 35 yrs old, with most of us over 40, and many 50-60 yr-old players. I used to love the shooter games like Doom/Quake when I was younger, but can't really get into fps shooter games much anymore. NMS scratches a different itch I guess.

Naturally. Kids abandon a game nowadays if it takes more than 84 attoseconds before they can shoot or blow up someone. Some large franchises are exempt and may hold their interest up to 3.8 nanoseconds instead, but games where your goal is eventually to just faff around looking at stuff without a single enemy outpost to massacre is not really something for the youngsters.

I actually enjoy it. Bought it right at release and let it rest after playing it for 20 hours at that time. I continued playing it with the release of the NEXT update and got 120h of playtime by now and keep playing it on a regular basis.
It still is pretty repetitive after a while but all the additional stuff they implemented (bases anywhere, vehicles, fleets, quest systems, being able to have multiple starships, character customization, optional switch to third person etc) really improved the overall gameplay. Guess the game can keep you busy for hundreds of hours if you really want to. There's quite much to do in the micromanagement part (upgrading your suit, optimizing suit/tool/ship technology, getting a good tool/ship, learning alien languages, unlocking recipes, building your base and unlocking specific base blueprints via missions, raising your reputation for various factions, ...)
I didn't face any gamebreaking bugs since the latest update on friday except some duping issues when moving items which are currently in use (in favor of the player) or lost items when displacing items within large refiners (unintended behaviour - the system normally wants you to move items back into your inventory and choose a new one instead).

LOL. I've got quite a few years on you ;-) I hope you enjoy it.
If you have any troubles there's usually a pretty good help group on the forums. The very start can be a little bit difficult sometimes depending on the random scenario you get put into (the start is more survival than most of the game) - and I'd recommend normal mode while you're learning how everything works and how to deal with hazards. Some newer players get frustrated initially starting in harder difficulties because they keep dying before they learn the survival tricks, so normal is probably best for learning/first playthrough. But once you get past the start it turns into an exploration game that gets easier as you become more competent.

no. I won't validate the practice of "build the hype on something we can't deliver and IF we are really successful, we'll deliver years later". Where are we going if all game dev companies do the same ?!?
I like sci-fi
I like exploring
I like survival
I like procedural
(I have so many hours on Minecraft, roguelike games, and so on)
so would certainly enjoy the game and I'm going to be very happy to dig a lot of hours in it if it ends up in a HB monthly or bundle (if it's in bundle I'll surely give all hello games tip to other devs&charity ); but no way I caution their way of doing.
those guys are marketing and PR genius; they manage to make such a buzz and build the hype that they fooled almost everyone on false promises (if they didn't succeed they would never have the mean to fulfill their false promises ... 2 years later)

I don't get how people will still let these developers get away with blatantly lying and releasing a broken game.
I suppose you hate EA, yes? Then, why justifying Hello Games with basically doing the same thing?
Comment has been collapsed.
nope, i not purchasing any early access game (i still get a lot from bundles but never purchasing a bundle for EA games). Ill consider once it dont have early access tag and there are good infos/reviews about the game.
edit: ahh, its no longer early access, but the bad reviews and hate from reliable, real gamers (not just youtube wannabe paidjob gamers) wouldnt purchase me the game. If it will be bundled then ill play it but no direct purchase for 10+ EUR price.

So No Man's Sky is 60% off on HB right now making it £15.99. They have apparently fixed alot of bugs, updated the game so it now includes everything they originally promised and are still going on updates.
Is it a good game?
Cheers
