Hey everyone!
I'm doing some research on impression formation for a psychology class at my uni, and I need lots of data because social psychology is real fun that way.

In any case, I thought an interesting way to get some participants would be to make giveaways, so here I am!
The survey itself is pretty simple to fill out, completely anonymous, and should take under 20 minutes to complete.
To motivate you, I've got a little giveaway train at the end which contains a handful of games I personally think are great!

Here's a link to the survey: <survey is closed>

If you've got the time, I'd really appreciate it if a few of you would fill out the survey. :) It would really help me out!

EDIT:
Hello everyone!

The survey and giveaways have ended, I've had the fun of trying to sort out problems with SPSS and finish the report, and now I am able to let you all know how you did. :)

Now, please note that I was not able to use absolutely all of the responses collected. Some were obvious trolls, for example. But you guys really gave me a lot (and I mean a LOT) of data to work with, so it was really a pleasure to analyse.

As a reminder, my hypotheses were:

  1. Profession would have the most effect on ratings
  2. Personality would also have a large effect
  3. Sexual orientation would have a slight effect, with bisexual producing the lowest scores

Here are some bar charts from my report: http://imgur.com/57dOLa8

In the end, profession and personality were the most influential variables, with profession only very slightly in the lead. I noticed an interesting interaction between these two variables, so I explored it in Figure 2, where you can see personality being the main factor when it comes to the first two professions, but the last profession evidently... had some low scores all around. haha

Finally, sexual orientation had no significant effect, statistically speaking. I was personally pleased to be proven wrong. :)

Thanks again everyone for helping out, and also for your helpful comments. I made sure to remember them when writing how the study could be improved. Next time (if there is a next time on here) I'll try to make the survey more interesting. :P

Have to ask why those were the choices for occupancy? Thief seems very strange to me.

Also thanks for the sonic and undertale GAs

The occupancy is meant to reflect the level of morality. They were chosen by my prof, though, so they are a bit awkward. And no problem! :)

Whether fortunate, or unfortunate, my fifteen years as a prison guard gives me a different view on thieves. Very few people in the world are career thieves... most of them are in such a position because of circumstance or opportunity. Thieves can be mechanics, doctors, etc. So ultimately, I guess knowing someone is a thief tells me absolutely nothing about that person. The sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with how a person does their job (unless their in porn... then it has a lot to do with "how"). So I guess the level of friendliness and patience is what actually tells me about a person... cruel people suck balls.

That is true. The role of context has an immense influence in how people act in their lives. But people tend to forget that a lot (myself included, I'm sure) so I was instructed to follow the list of terms I was given because from a social psychologist's perspective, it should still produce results for many respondents. And of course, sexuality is not a very good defining factor either. I am only looking for small trends across a large sample, nothing too extreme :)

Obviously "occupancy" means something different here... that means the amount of people you can fit into a building (as an example)... where as a person's profession is known as an occupation. I'd never known it had another meaning anywhere else... so I guess this is my lesson learned for the day!

I'd love to help, but I can't determine how much I'd like someone by only reading 3 descriptives (and from which only one is sorta character related).

I think you are underestimating impact because unless they are a public figure where their preferences are known one usually finds out their preferences when they try hitting on you, which can be a negative experience.
Also the set of subjects you chose (gamers) may skew results related to "cruel";
like the portal phrase "there is science to be done"; or there have been several games where civilians infected with disease needed to be killed to prevent a wider outbreak, and there have been some stealth games where it's wiser to leave a trail of death than to leave someone breathing who might wake up and raise alarm.
the characteristic/job thief will also have more weight with those that have had stuff stolen from them.
also an incompetent doctor might cause more suffering than a cruel one

Certainly, the context plays a big role. Unfortunately, this is just for a simple class and not a full-blown study so I'm not controlling as many confounding variables as I'd like. I only have a few weeks and the money in my pocket to do this study heheh
Thank you for your insightful comment :)

Yay, nice rewarding chances! Sexuality in combination with jobs might be kind of hard. Gender of the one being gay affects the feelings as well. As a man I totally don't care about women being gay. She'd just do her job no matter what.
Eg. I'm having issues with a gay doctor especially if I know he might see me naked.
I totally wouldn't care if it was someone working for a bank. All he's intetested in would be the money.

I just think that the survey should include that fact as well. ;-)

I'm pretty sure a doctor is only interested in doing their job... and perhaps like the banker; your money (no wait... that's the insurance company).

:D

Yes. I'd have liked to add in elements of gender and more, but unfortunately the study would have been too large for me to handle. I'll be sure to keep this in mind in the future.

Unfortunately had to drop midway. For some reason, the questions/answers choices are really hard to keep up with. It would have been easier on a 5/5 or 10/10 scale.
