So I hosted a Ga yesterday for a game.
The giveaway ended and I sent a friend request to the winner.
He accepted it but he's constantly offline ever since. Haven't talked to him.

Question:
Do you guys talk to winner before you send him/her his prize or just send anyway?

I might have trust issues, but how can I prove if I sent him the item and he let's say trades it away?

So should I just send now or wait till he's online?

How do you deliver gift to winners?

View Results
I wait till he's online and after we talk I gift him his prize
I just gift him the item regardless if he's online or offline once he accepted friend request

look at his won games and compare to the games he has in library, if he activated all, he is most likely a good person. If he didn't activate games then you can ask for a reroll

Pretty much this.

After a GA ends, I open up a 2nd browser window to check the Wins vs Activations. Anything looks bad, ask for a reroll, once that's done double check the new winner and send it out if everything looks kosher.

If they don't use my gift or key after a week, ask support for a suspension.

They have to live with the Karma of being a regifter or scammer, not you :).

He can trade it away just as easily whether you talk to him or not, so it really doesn't make any difference. All you can do is report him afterwards. If it is a steam gift you will have a record of what happened to it in your gift history (go to your inventory then click on 'more' then 'view gift history'. I hope it works out well in any event!

Ah, that's all I needed to know.
So Steam does keep a record of it. That's good enough for me.
Didn't know it existed.

Thanks!

I don't even add them and use email.

If he trades it away, just report regifter and let him enjoy his ban.

If he marks as not received, then add him ask whats wrong, and if it doesn't work out in day or two, send gift history to support, they will mark it as received.

But that might be just me, just giving away spare games from bundles.

if you want to talk that bad, send a message, something like "let me know when you're online, please. thank you.". maybe he checks steam but doesn't use the client or doesn't go online on it.

If i already know the winner ( we had a conversion already with each other in a thread or ........ ) i will send the gift instantly but if i dont know the winner, i will use my detective scheme to know which/what type of person they are !. Maybe we can be friends after sending gift but if i see he/she isnt interested to talk more than " a thanks " in chat box , i will say " YW ! " " bye " and " remove " !

I add them, I talk to them if there is a chance. I never email for security reasons. Just in case if you don't know, Steam shows your email to corespondents if you email a gift.

I used to see if he's online or not, but with different country, I spoke with a guy and we're never online at the same time ^^' (france / turkey ) ^^'
So I used to send messages even if he's offline, sent the gift via steam, and when I see he or she got it send a link to the won page to remember to check the "received" box.

Some don't want to talk, other talks a lot, depend on people ;)

You can try talking even if he is offline, if it's important to you. Specially since offline/online is the status of the steam client and you don't need to have it open to just private chat.

I'm in communication with the winner before I hand over anything. I only send stuff "blindly" when I know the recipient personally. If the winner won't talk to me or respond to emails, I get a re-roll and give it to someone who will.

Generally I am all for gifter picks the method of delivery. If you want to add the winner and hand over the gift in person so to speak you should do so. Although if you do insist on talking to him first you should probably give a little extra leeway before asking for a reroll as you might be in opposite time zones with different schedules. :)

Already solved.
No rerolls :)
I like to talk to the winner since it's a bit personal when you hand over something. (+that little paranoia I mentioned above in the topic starter:p)
