Yea everyone has that same issue. It's a know thing. The fix is to click the "Mark as Read" green button on the message page. That should fix it until you get another message, then you have to click it again.

you sure about that? because i had this issue. opened messages in a new tab. clicked Mark as Read. then the Mark as Read button is gone so i can't click it again, yet the notification still stays in the older tab. :/

I have the number near the message icon, and it still there also if I read it. It's bugged from many days.
