I played the first 2 Borderlands forever ago on xbox. With the current Humble Deal I thought it might be fun to do the pre-sequel. However, I don't really have any interest in playing alone and wasn't sure if my kid could hang in co-op. Luckily before buying the 3rd tier I bought the lowest tier so me and my child could play Borderlands 1 and I can be sure she can handle it. And now I realize it has no local co-op. Pretty lame for a co-op designed game but I know couch co-op isn't as commonplace on PC as it is on console.

I found this program: https://github.com/lucasassislar/nucleuscoop and will likely give it a try. Hopefully it works and my PC can handle the load of running two instances.

Well, it's uncommon for FPS games to have local co-op because of the complexity of the things that have to be displayed on the same monitor. Usually I only see local co-op in minigame-style games (at least on PC). I guess for console it might be more popular since you usually play on larger TV screens.

Doesnt LAN count as local co-up.

id say yes - unless playing competetively (which would be local / lan multiplayer instead)

Yes, it does technically but I think Outlaw1991 is talking about shared/split screen co-op.

I'd use Local as in 1 machine, 1 copy of the game.
Otherwise there is little difference between online P2P MP and LAN MP in terms of how it works.

No, not really - local co-op is traditionally done on the same machine (split-screen, hotsteat, depending on game) while LAN is local area network, connecting multiple machines through a non-online system.

It does stand for local area network but in gaming terms I'd say no since LAN is essdentially online play without an interenet connection. By local I meant couch/splitscreen coop.

Consoles could handle splitscreen, so the same should be true for PCs.

That's strange, the first 2 are definitely split screen co-op on console, so it's a shame not on pc

Yeah, I don't get that either. The most notorious example (for me) being Minecraft, it's really boring to play alone, the xbox version has local splitscreen and the pc version doesn't, so despite of owning the pc version, kids prefer to play it on their tiny tablet screens just to play together. Luckily for their eyes, they ditched it eventually, oh well.

It isn't natively supported. So either they're playing on console or they're using tool
like splitplay which I tried but can't seem to
get to work.

Can you give me more details on this?

I followed the video to a tee but can only get one instance running. I am running windows 10.

Yea I'm having trouble getting both to launch. Thanks for the help though. Maybe one day they'll end up on GOG with splitscreen support.

yeah I was annoyed with that as well. My daughter got into watching me play BL2 and then made a mechromancer which she absolutely loved. I tried the splitscreen tricks but it ran kinda wonky :(

What you're doing is against site rules, and will likely result in you getting temporarily suspended from the site. I'd recommend deleting this post and any similar post you've made, and reading through the site's Help pages (link located at the top of the page).

P.S. Don't necro threads unless there's a clear benefit to the specific thread to do so. Thank you.
