What timeline do you think Breath of the Wild takes place in? 🤔
Well, despite their questionable attitude towards their customers, Nintendo still knows how to make good games.
Scratch that: Nintendo knows how to make games, and not press X to watch next cut-scene simulators or open world fuckaroundery sandboxes.

As long as they are good enough to play the ever-living hell out of them.…
Sometimes 3rd-party can do some nice things, too; look at Bayonetta 1-2, where the second is Nintendo exclusive. Still regarded as one of the absolute best hack & slash spectacle fighters ever made.

Which is supposed to place it squarely the "Twilight Realm" chronology. Gotta love how there are three timelines to the universe due to Ocarina of Time and that the canon one was created when Link dies and Ganon wins.
EDIT: Though on the surface this makes little chronological sense, and it sounds like it should take place some time in the pre-schism chronology, likely some time between Minish Cap and Ocarina of Time. Damned series needs a degree in Hyrulian History to make sense.

I'm a bit surprised by the high scores. I don't mind, in fact I'm very glad that it's getting high scores. I just expected less from Nintendo :P I would love to play the game, but I don't have a WiiU, and I don't plan to get a Switch anytime soon.

I hear the PC wii u emulator is pretty good. You can insert a wii u disc and it will play.

Well, I don't know why you should be surprised, considering that a significant number of the top games on Metacritic have been developed by Nintendo; in fact, the first one is another Zelda. Their consoles might be quirky and a bit obsolete graphics-wise, but they do know how to make games. Most of them good, and some like Super Mario Galaxy or this one simply exceptional.
There are few companies capable of delivering such quality in a sustained manner over the years, and very, very few, that have managed to do so for more than 30 years.

I'm surprised because the last few console Zelda titles have not done as well. They've not been bad by any means, but Skyward Sword was considered a massive disappointment by many, and while Twilight Princes was well received, I do remember there being some "controversy" (see fanboys/girls not accepting a non-perfect score) over its review scores not being high enough. And Nintendo have not really impressed the last few years in general.
I'm still very glad that this game turned out good. I like the Zelda series, and I don't want Nintendo to go away, they've made plenty of stellar games.

Thanks for the explanation, though I slightly disagree. Both Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are great games, easily among the best on Wii or any other coexisting console - and as such they received really positive scores. Even if this new Breath of the Wild had been at the level of the latter, it would still be a fantastic game worth playing. That being said, Skyward Sword had very strong features in my opinion, such as a truly exciting fighting experience thanks to the motion control or the ability to fly, but unfortunately also some major downsides like the lack of an authentic open world (i.e. areas are not connected) or the repetitivenes of certain actions. Still, I would still are it with a 9 or 9.5 and it remains one of my favorite games of the last decade.
As for Nintendo as a whole, I agree that perhaps the average quality of their games has decreased over the years. They are still able to release brilliant gamees (like this one or Xenoblade Chronicles X), but for some reason they have also published some crappy spin-offs of lately. Some outstanding examples are the Animal Crossing amiibo thingy or Metroid Federation Forces, both of which were a total failure. Why not create proper Animal Crossing or Metroid games? This is beyond me.

I've not played Xenoblade Chronicles X, but I played the first Xenoblade Chronicles. It was a game that I think started really strong, but ended up dragging a lot towards the middle & end.
And as for Skyward Sword, I'm a bit surprised to see it having so high reviews, I remember there being a lot of negativity surrounding it at the time of release. Personally I would not rate it higher than an 8, which is still a good score (I did like the game), but I thought the exploration felt weaker than in previous games. Most of the ground sections felt like dungeons, even if they technically speaking were not, and the flying bits were not as fun. In many ways Skyward Sword felt like a weaker Wind Waker (Wind Waker was my favourite Zelda title because of the stronger story).

Always happy to hear that a Nintendo title has gotten good reviews, just hope the reviews are justified with the unwashed masses.

Never been a big fan of the Zelda series, so I doubt I'll play the game anytime soon or get a Switch for that matter.

Also updated that friend codes are not the only way to add friends, and fortunately, only one friend code is needed and the other person accepts, instead of both people having to input the code.

I'm planning on getting a Switch at the end of the year. I need to see more.

It's not a very nice thing to say, but part of me is hoping that the Switch flops so we see Nintendo games on other platforms at some point down the line. If not on Sony/Microsoft platforms then on PC at least (and on Steam, not their own storefront). I'd love to play some of their games but have no interest at all in owning one of their consoles.
They've just started dabbling in smartphone games so it's not completely out the realm of possibility but if it never happens... oh well. Got too much to play on PC anyway.

What was the last Zelda you played? They won't release them on PC but there are ways to play them nonetheless. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are awesome pieces of software, highly recommended. Skyward Sword is ok, but those two, oh boy (especially TP).

Doesn't happen often but damn I'm hyped. I've waited over 10 years for this! ;_; DIS BETTER BE GUD!
No, seriously, I didn't watch/read anything about BOTW besides the two short trailers but it's nice to see they probably did a good job. Sadly I don't own a Wii U nor do I have the money to buy a Switch, but I'll play it with a friend on his console tomorrow evening/night. :) So excited!
