Way to help diminish the seriousness of actual rape / violence / crime by flailing about over nothing. I had to facepalm when they brought in an actual police dude to comment on the 'seriousness' of violence in gaming. It's not like they have things they could actually be doing. The poor guy was on the spot and had to find a politically correct way of saying "This is not an issue or a threat, and cases where it is actually illegal or worth pursuing are so rare it's not worth investing resources into".

Remember, folks. News media is an entertainment industry. At no point are they legally required to present the truth, the only binding reason to do so is their reputation, and they don't consider their reputation harmed so long as most people swallow their story. It's entirely possible that the woman this supposedly happened to is a paid actor to provide the talking point written by someone else.

Consider that she claims to have stopped gaming online a year ago... but also claims she was raped in GTA 5. How exactly did that happen unless she has a time machine or a leaked dev copy? OOPS. But hey, then she apparently did it because of 'misogynistic' behaviour, yet totally neglects to realise the very same things occur to male players. Then it goes on to tell you how to protect your kids in the virtual world. Guess what? Step 1 should be to not allow your kids to play violent online videogames that they are too young for. The age label is there for a reason. If you're cool with a sandbox game based on a 'TV criminal' life, you should be asking yourself what the hell you're doing.

Pretty sure this is just an attempt to cash in on the trending social media topics.

Well, she could always mod the game to automatically release a horde of tumblr feminists, which get the "rapist" trampled down and screamed at. It permanently changes his face texture to look like someone wrote "check your privilege" on it.
Or leave the server and report the guy. Or do what I would probably do and laugh at how absolutely ridiculous it looks.

You can always turn off the game, you know. It's rated M, and GTA V is blatantly offensive on so many levels anyway.

On a complete sidenote allow me to rant about "rape" in general.

Every single time some idiot on the internet claims something is "rape" when it's clearly not, they're undermining everyone else. We have a bunch of programs against sexual assault, people are always talking about "victim blaming" or how they think that sexual assault is "okay," the goddamn vice president came here recently to speak about this, and so on. Yeah, sexual assault is horrible, but we can't take you seriously when you say you were "raped" because we can't tell if you were just mildly offended by some stupid inane bullshit or if you were actually raped and honestly we don't care. Rape is almost a punchline because of how often it's used by people in the video linked. There are actual people who need support and their efforts are being undermined whenever stupid bullshit like the above happens.

Seriously? Every single game can trigger some trauma. Maybe people forgot over the years that most games are about killing people and in some cases violently and with no remorse. In the end those are games, that's why we don't care anymore, because we know it's not real.
Why didn't she just quit the game if it was that horrible? Alt+F4 ffs. If she stayed and endured the whole freaking thing it's her fault. Before raging about what I say, remember it happened in a game. This doesn't relate to my opinion about actual rape, which is the worst thing among others on this fucked up planet.
Since she is a blogger I think this is more about creating attention than to tell people about this new threat that is approaching us. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife and hide yo husband.

Ummm why did they bring children into this? People under the age of 17 are not allowed to play that game so they shouldn't be playing it. And it's not that hard to move on to a different server. It's GTA:O you can hop onto a different session. That doesn't just happen to you that happens to everything, they didn't target you because you're a girl they targeted you because you were there on their server. Besides that shit is funny. GTA is all about the outlandish bullshit that happens and you knew damn straight well what you were getting into when you purchased the game and booted up the online mode. You're just a fucking idiot plain and simple.

Dude, if that happened to me when I was playing, I would laugh my fucking ass off then just go to a new server so i could actually play. I hate people. Lol.

1. "In GTA V... players get away with crime and murder." Yeah, its not like there's a virtual police force that then attempts to then virtually kill you.
2. Why in the world does that guy get to control what games his younger brother (emphasis on brother) virtually plays? And he doesn't even get a frickin' headset? Maybe not to talk to other people, but not even to hear the game's sound? The virtual heck? Give him one w/o a mic.
3. Why is GTA (esp. V) the one virtual game the media uses in these instances?
4. If you want to keep your kids safe, buy them an Xbox rather than a Playstation. The Xbox came out in 2001, and the PS in 1994. Kids aren't that stupid. (wink)
5. And why do parents have this idea that their kids don't already know about everything that's in these games? I think a lot do.
