That's probably what Valve intended that wishlist for. However, I use the wishlist mainly for one purpose: to remind me of those games, I want I'm interested in playing and winning here on SG. Those can be the same as the ones, I want to buy, but not necessarily.

Hmm Dark Souls III, I wondered about that one a few times already, it's tagged as difficult. What worries me, that it might be too difficult for me. And it seems to be a console port, meaning it's probably mostly about pressing buttons, combat moves etc. A free Steam weekend would've been helpful, I guess, to check it out before buying.

Dark souls games are difficult indeed. Very-very difficult, but you said that casual games don't interest you, and this game is pretty much the furthest you can get from casual. :D
Well every game is about pressing buttons, and most AAA games are console ports, so I am not sure what you mean, but yes it is all about combat. There is some lore and vague worldbuilding, but not much of a narrative and no relateable characters with witty dialogue. Basically it's all about defeating enemies and learning their moves and dodgerolling them to death. The feeling you get when you defeat a Dark Souls boss is unlike any other feeling from other games, because well...you die a lot.
It's similar to Nioh, Lords of the Fallen, The Surge and Hyper Light Drifter when it comes to gameplay (except all those games were trying to imitate the Dark Souls formula).

You right, picking a very difficult game is about the furthest I could go from casual. However, I don't think that I'm willing to buy a game in which I suck big times, just to avoid casualness. That would lead only to frustration. If there's not much story or lore and if it's all about defeating enemies, dodgerolling and such, then I fear, I'd be too clumsy for it. That's also what I meant by "all about pressing buttons" and "console ports", of course all games use some kind of buttons for control (even when it's only a mouse button like in a city builder for example), but if the whole concept is about pressing buttons in special combos and timing them well (like on a console, with a controller), then I already know it's not my thing. That's basically the reason why I don't like arcade or platformers. I think it's a very good suggestion, but I'd definitely need some kind of trial, demo or free weekend to check it out before buying.

Well, you know, that's the thing with Dark Souls. At first you suck at it, but then you learn the moves, learn patterns, learn your abilities and get better and more stronger. I don't think you become really frustrated by it, rather more determined and you basically feel a lot better when you overcome the enemies then. Its design is very different from other games, so it's probably not everyone's thing.
There is no demo or trial for games like this. (frankly, I haven't seen a demo for AAA games in the last 8 years...).
I am pretty sure the only way to "try it", is by either purchasing on Steam and then refunding within 2 hours or via some less legal means, aka torrent. Although, since this is your first DS game, I am not sure you would even come close to finishing the first area within two hours though, so I don't see much point in that.

Have you tried the Steam Library Filter?
I set up some filters based on your description filtering Hyptronic's account (bc he has a shitload of games):
https://www.lorenzostanco.com/lab/steam/u/Hyptronic/_/HkRbf-WQf
still, there is around 1500 games to choose from... :D
Then I recommend exporting the titles and use a steam compare tool, like compare2steam to filter out the games you already have.
Have fun browsing :)

Interesting, I played around with your filters a bit. Didn't yield any new results though, either I got it already, or it does not interest me. There's far too much shovelware on Steam. I'll come back to that filter on the next sale though :-)

Wow, gaming like it's 1989, fascinating. I think, I have seen those games separately here on SG every now and then, but never really looked into them, but they really do remind me of my first PC game "Ultima V - Warriors of Destiny" back in 1989. May I ask how much that bundle costs for you? It's €23,89 over here, which I wouldn't call exactly cheap, but of course it's a lot of games. I still think I'd rather get them one piece at a time from a bundle site or such ... but I will watch out for them, thanks for the hint.

Have you seen Tales of Berseria? Not sure of the price in your region but it's around £15 in the UK.

Excellent story and incredible main menu music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3asoaO1FX4
And it's a RPG.

I feel very close to you, basically I dislike every genre you listed, except for FPS (but only the ones with a solide story and background, like Bioshock or Wolfenstein, and I prefer Third Person Shooters by far), Metroidvanian plateformers (Ori, Hollow Knight) and Resident Evil (not the 7th)/Silent Hill/The Evil Within/Alan Wake type of survival horror games (no interest in games like Slender, Five Nights and Amnesia, with useless notes to collect, jumpscares, no weapon).
But lots of them were bundled on Humble, so you probably have them or you can trade them for cheap.

Actually, I might even agree with you on few select FPS' - Bioshock seems to be interesting, I would probably check it out given the chance - story does make a difference. Then again, isn't Borderlands 2 also supposed to offer a solid story? I tried the single player campaign on a free Steam weekend, and still deinstalled it before even half the weekend was over, because I suck so badly with FPS. We also seem to have quite different taste when it comes to anime and JPGs. As far as I am concerned Star Ocean or Ys, are out of question for the anime alone. I also have "Final Fantasy - Lightning Returns" from the one and only Square surprise box I ever bought and just couldn't get into it, I found it just plain awful.
I do have Tomb Raider (Underworld, 2013 -> also my first game on Steam and one of the few I compley played through - and RoTR), "Murdered : Soul Suspect" and most of the PnC games published by Daedalic. Gray Matter on GOG. The Risen Trology from various bundles.

Borderlands 2 has kinda a solid story (actually it's probably more of a solid background than a solid story), but it's not really a FPS. More of a "semi openworld RPGFPS with random loots", which results in totally unrealistic gunfights where you can empty half of your magazine to kill a single trashmob. And as an openworld, you get huge maps, yey that's wonderful, but you also lose all of the intensity of a linear FPS.
I have Borderlands 2, I played it for like 15 hours, quit for a year, got back some months ago and quit again after a couple of hours. I just can't. Too much randomness (and I'm very unlucky), too long, too big, too many FedEx quests. I also play it solo, and I assume it's a game made for coop. I'm sure it's a very, very good game, but not a game for me.
Lightning Returns seems garbage indeed. It's the third game of the FFXIII saga, which is probably the worst numbered FF for the majority. And FF:LR is even worst, since now you have to play against a timer. The essence of a FF is certainly not to hurry to avoid a game over...
But hey, I'm an idiot, I did play FFXIII and FFXIII-2 (even 100%ed...), and I'll probably get Lightning Returns to end this saga for good, even if I hate it so much...

And FF:LR is even worst, since now you have to play against a timer.
Okay, I didn't even get past the intro. All that, flashy-clicky action, press button here, doge here, press button there, control simply overwhelmed me. When a game enforces an asdw-keyboard-layout, I'm pretty much out, anything beyond basic MMO controls, where there's one key to move ahead (usually "w") and maybe two more for actions while everything else, like looking around is done by mouse or strictly optional (like sidestepping), it's beyond my capabilities. So even if FF:LR is the worst of the franchise, I pretty much doubt that any of them would be my cup of tea. It's all too Asian.
I got Dragon's Dogma, it's nice in general, but a few things really annoy me. Like that stupid console style autosave system, with forced hardsaves at certain points and no way to save at other points at all. In a single player game I want to save whenever I pretty damn please. There's a save manager mod, without it I would have removed that game already and never touched it again. But it still sucks that one needs a mod for such things at all. I also don't like that the focus is on combat rather than story and that once you reach the main city, there's too many generic quests without a clear direction.
Would you consider Ethan Carter a walking simulator, or does that apply one to the "Fidelio Incident"? I'll be better cautious with that genre, the screenshots always look nice, but they're usually boring.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ethan Carter is indeed a walking simulator. A very beautiful one. But yeah, basically there is nothing to do than walk, enjoy the landscape and complete some "puzzles". There is a story though, with a voice-over.
Quite a decent game, but I don't know if you'll think it's worth 3.79€. This is a genre that some will love unconditionally, some won't care or will play it casual (that's me), and some won't spend even a cent and a second for this because "that's not really a game". That's your call.
Comment has been collapsed.
Happy cakeday! I think I'll wait with Ethan Carter or any other walking sim, until it's bundled or very cheap somewhere. I wouldn't be so harsh as to call it "not really a game", but at some point I picked up "The Old City Leviathan" because it looked visually stunning and found it very, very, boring. So if all walking simulators are like that, I'll better be careful.

Have you try http://store.steampowered.com/app/404680/Hob/ ?

for 20 bucks i'd buy factorio 100 out of 100 times.
however you need that nerdy kind of appetite for the whole idea.
good thing the demo is free so just go ahead and find out yourself.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's a good idea. Steam needs more trials and demos in general. Refunding shouldn't be the only way to find out if something suits you or not. It's not like a demo is always helpful, the impression can still be misleading, but it's better than no impression at all.

Since i noticed a interest in rpgs...
Im currently on a rpg craze and getting a bunch of less know titles so if you're interested i could recommend a bunch.
Earthlock currently is pretty cheap and im finding it refreshing (considering im more into neckbeard tabletop rpgs with full plated knights and such) albeit its jrpg inspired and have some mild kinda-anime style.
Im also finding the newer Battle Crashers fun and refreshing and having a good amount of depth in what looks and feels like the old tried formula of turn-based jrpgs.
Earthlock have more story (Battle Crashers its pretty much just background, and cliché) but it isn't any i would write home about.
If you're into older rpgs and or pen and paper rpgs a hidden less know gem i love is Drakensang 1 and 2. The seemingly arcane rules full of stats are just confusing on the start(its simple deep down) and both games are skewed towards slower paced (they're long) but have good stories (both main and side ones) and a meaty setting and lore (coming from some famous german tabletop rpg with years of material that i never played).
Its just something about its purity, vibe and pacing that holds in a way that no other rpg reaches. A sense of adventuring i would say. From older games to newer ones they're all grindy and grim ugly monsters with badass heroes, pretentious all serious, trying too hard to be epic or the opposite (commonly jrpgs) where everything is too jolly and rainbows. Pillars and to a bigger degree Tyrant are on the grim side, Divinity Original Sim feels like a more generic modern D&d (i know its good but feels gamey), the list goes on.
Drakensang(s) feel like a down to earth Lord of the Ring/Hobbit - that is, one without a evil lord with a looming war/world end above the heads, in a world of adventure. It ends up feeling a lot more like many real life/paper rpg stories, the mood and style (minus the common joking player that every rpg group usually have).
Half of it is nostalgia for me but the other half are actually good games criminally unknow. They're active pause style like Pillars. Id recomend getting River of Time first because its main story and pacing starts way earlier while drakensang 1 you linger too long randomly wandering until things start to click. And the story is charming.
On another completely unrelated suggestion... i saw rpgs and fantasy on your library but didn't saw... Overlord.
If you haven't played it you're missing. Its a funny and really well made action rpgish meets pikmin in a satire of fantasy from the creators of Age of Wonders(4x series)- that somehow retains or reflects some of the magic of AoW 1 albeit a satire of it, and despite playing a evil overlord you get to choose being really evil or disney villain and almost anti-hero in a sense. Its a blast and both are amazing. Just stay clear of anything beyond Overlord 1 and 2, they released via third parties spin offs that are terrible.
............On another note...
Now im really curious about something- im on your blacklist and can't help myself but wonder why. Being in so little BLs compared to WLs but not being able to see who i always wonder why, and once i asked someone with a pretty interesting answer (me having supported some dev with a bad past) - so i can't help but do it once again. Btw excuse me if it was you who i asked before, im bad remembering names so its even worse with nicks
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll answer your BL question first. Basically everyone on my blacklist is on it for same reason: "thank you" comments in one of my public giveaways, when I specifically asked to refrain from doing so. I had quite a few discussions about that topic, and yes it may sound harsh to blacklist people for "just" saying thanks. However, the point is, I asked them not to and it's very often an indication of someone using a bot or script. I should also mention I've never blacklisted anyone who posted more than just a generic thanks, nor did I ever blacklist any winners, as it's often hard to find anything particular witty to say when you're in bliss of having won something. That being said, there may be a few people who simply had a busy day and ended in my thank-you-bot category too fast, we all make mistakes. I' just rectified, what probably was one on my behalf, and cleared you from blacklist. No harsh feelings, I hope. :-)
As for RPGs, Drakensang is indeed a gem. I have both 1 and 2 in my library and even managed to get Phileasson's Secret from somewhere They've all been bundled and I got them all from bundles or as part of a bundle, but they would have been worth the full sales price, if not the full price. It's sad, I never had the time to completely play through any of them. It's truly a bad habit, collecting more games I could possibly play in a lifetime and only play them a little. I also enjoyed Divinity II Developer's Cut, probably a lot more than Divinity OS.
I kinda missed out on Overlord because I figured it's more like a Dungeon Master thingy rather than an RPG (not that I wouldn't enjoy those, but I already got Dungeons II and never even played it). Perhaps I should take a closer look.
Comment has been collapsed.
Do take a closer look! Way closer! Its nothing like Dungeon Keeper/Dungeons. Its basically a action game where you walk around with half a dozen goblins (late game dozens) and can comand/control then in non-strategic fashion (way more action, tactics and in puzzles). You go level from level (areas semi-open worldish) completing objectives and few quests, destroying whatever you wish, fighting fantastic wildlife, each area normally having a boss before it opens up to others. Some bosses you barely use the minions, others you command then to do things like carry the bomb the boss throw to kill themselves blowing on him... most often they're around 'send fireball, send wave of goblins to damage health, retreat then before his strong attack wipes everyone... do it the max you can before you run out of minions, then finish him off'. The minions are usefull in a number of ways, i just ilustrated bosses (would be hard killing then with your damage alone).
And theres no building. There is the tower on the first game and the underground lair in the second but they're just your hub to choose itens- it just happens to represent your upgrades as 'building the lair'. When you have enought souls/energy/gold for armor upgrades then puft- your goblins built 'the forge'. Thats it.
Its ridiculously fun, memorable characters and some interesting and novelty plot-lines and twists.
About the blacklist you probably weren't quick on your fingers.
Years ago(if i recall correctly) i used a script for some time, a single one that automatically pasted a message of my choice when i clicked enter from the front page- it auto opened a tab and closed it. It was when i was new, low level, blacklists were this new thing and i did from reading a topic about blacklists- about how some or many were blacklisting from things like wining to not saying thanks... some linked the script and voilá. I was disapointed of never wining anything at the time and saw i got into some blacklists so it seemed like a good idea at the time. Sometime after i started actually engaging with the community and stopped using it. But never bots. Even if i weren't so averse to any kind of cheating im too chicken and too fond of keeping a clean profile. I don't get how people still cheat around sg or steam at risk of being banned and such. But that script i didn't saw as cheating, just avoiding blacklists for what seemed arbitrary reasons for me (i think i have one blacklist if that much).
So yeah, you were correct on scripting and not reading, but not botting.
(while i don't use it anymore i still don't get those who blacklist for not saying thanks- just to think of the inbox clutter... go figure)

Hi folks, I was wondering if you could give me some hints, on what to buy with some €28 money I have left in my Steam wallet. My big problem is, I have so many games on Steam already and I'm very picky. I'd like to get as many kinds of different suggestions, so to avoid bias, I won't let you peek at my wishlish and just tell you what I don't like ;-)
I do NOT like (or would rather not buy right now):
That list probably goes on, but that's all I can think of right now. In general, I do like RPGs, (city- or open-world) building simulations or any game with a nice story. The game does not have to be at an all time low discount price and I depending on the suggestions I don't have to spend all my wallet or might even top it up. Though €25 is definitely the maximum I'd be willing to spend on a single game, around €10 is always better. Thanks in advance.
Oh yeah, and there's your obligatory giveaway (lvl 2+).
EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Rest assured I will consider each and every one of them and answer your comments within time. Keep going ;-)
EDIT2: Thanks so much for even more suggestions. So far I'm inclined to get "Planet Coaster", maybe the White Marsh expansion for Pillars of Eternity (hasn't been suggested, but I recently dug out the game again, though it's outrageous that it's been a few Euros cheaper already on Steam). And I have a few more to check out, while wallet keeps growing. More suggestions still welcome, nothing's decided yet.
One more giveaway: LVL2+
EDIT3: Thanks again for all your suggestions. I got "Planet Coaster" and "The Turing Test" for now. I still have exactly enough money in my wallet left, to buy the expansion pass for Pillars of Eternity - so any thoughts on that, whether it's a good idea to wait on the expansion or buy it now, considering I probably won't have time for playing it though multiple times. Or I could just buy few small things instead, "Fable: The Lost Chapters" seemed like a good suggestion. But I'm still open for more suggestions. Keep going.
