Civilization 4 - noob question about steam

Hi, im relative new on steam. I bought the civilization 4 complete pack. And on the property of the game, it say that the automatic update are disable, and i cant active (i think because the game its a little old :P)..

So, my question is if i can download a patch update from this page http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12576 (for example) and install it... will be a problem doing this? i mean, valve allowed doing this kind of stuff?

I post this, because, i dont know how to vac works, and im scared that doing this valve ban my account or somthing like that..

I don't know how the patching will work, but Steam doesn't mention anything about Civ being VAC enabled so that shouldn't be a concern.

The game should already come fully patched directly from Steam. No need to install that patch.

I just bought this, and I downloaded Beyond the Sword which does have the option. Steam should have downloaded the latest version of whichever one you picked however, and they shouldn't be releasing updates anymore anyways though I get that ignore it isn't what you're looking for. Go into the options meau and check the about this build to see if the version matches the last patch of the one you wish to download (3.19 for BTS).
