Hi guys, I am finishing up making my first Gaming PC, and I would love for your input/ suggestions on how to improve it. I am currently $65 under budget so I can improve if needed. Thanks in advance guys

Clicky

Edit: The games I really want to run are Payday 2, Borderlands 2, Metro 2033, and Titianfall. How well would I be able to run these games.
Also, the reason why there is no monitor or speakers on the list is because I already have a 1080p monitor and a "Big Jawbone Jambox"

Edit New Build Leave as much helpful feedback as possible

you dont really need a full tower case unless you really really want the air flows as it is giant and your mother board is gonna take up like half of it and thats it. Dont have to get 16 gigs. 8 gig is fine. It looks like it will run the games you want.

You could change the case to a smaller one (since the MB is micro atx), 16gb RAM isn't necessary, 8gb is fine. Do you really need blu-ray? And also, you can get Windows 8 for less than $15 from Steamtrades.
Edit: You'll be able to run Payday 2 and Titanfall at max for sure. About the others I have no idea.

Eh I'd change out the SSD to something around 120-128 GB. Price/GB of 64GB drives is pretty bad. Also, less ram, a better cpu cooler, and potentially a different case. And I'd recommend an R9 280 over the GTX 760 but maybe you want Nvidia for something.

My suggestion

Well, you don't really need 16GB of RAM for games. You could get dual channel 8GB and put that money towards possibly a 770 or a larger power supply for future upgrading of various parts.

This is where I go for my PC upgrading info. Take a look at some of the starter builds and see where yours lines up. And yeah, you can drop the Win8 license, there are places to get it much cheaper like Reddit and Steamtrades.

I'd think about getting a slightly bigger SSD for the OS. I have one that size for mine, and it's fantastic, but a lot of programs like to drop stuff in the default user folders so you have to keep an eye on it so it doesn't fill up. Learning about symbolic links helps a lot there.

Dude you don't know how pick hardware why in world did pick and old date AMD 760G motherboard chipset that wasn't made for AMD FX CPU best get at least a 970 or 990FX for that CPU and spend a ex $10 get CX600 watt model and you don't need 16GB and best over all deal to go for G.Skill Ripjaws Series 1866MHz 8GB you $50 buck by going here windows8sale.com petty much the OEM Software but it professional other then I would spend a bit more on a Retail ver that way you can re-install it as min time as you want it can move to new system unlike OEM ver.

at least a 120gb ssd as main os drive. with secondary storage drive. NOTE: do not have both hdds plugged in when installing windows, only the main drive do you want plugged in when installing. otherwise it will put the boot/start files on the secondary and the os on the main.

i think that cpu will bottleneck that graphic card you chose
im not an expert tho, but google about that

I'm not sure, I'm not a computer expert, the site said my parts were compatible, but I dont know to what extent, what do you recommend I bring the CPU down to ( in GHz)?

He's saying the CPU you picked won't be fast enough to completely feed the GTX 760. Which may be true to a small extent.

You will probably just lose 1 - 2 fps, nothing much, GPUs are called dedicated for a reason :D

One weak link will hold the whole system back. That's what bottleneck is. You may have the strongest GPU on the market but some cheap CPU you got wont allow you to bring out the potential of the GPU.

UPDATE: I have heard almost all comments saying that 16 GB of RAM is excessive and I don't need It, my question is- While recording (Twitch/ YouTube), on call (Skype/ Team Speak), and playing a game like Borderlands 2 or Payday 2 on very high, if not max setting will 8 GB of RAM suffice, or should I get 12?

Get an Hauppauge HD-PVR 2 or some other AVC/H264 Hardware Encoder then you don't need deal with the Software Encoder memory pig app.

No. Stay with dual channel. They don't make 6 GB sticks of RAM.

I know... I would get 3 4 Gig sticks

Sure he can do that it called a pair of 4GB + pair of 2GB and yes do make 6GB all one stick but very hard get hold of there server product and custom made.

Comment has been collapsed.

He can do it but it's horribly cost-ineffective.

And source on the 6 GB sticks? I don't see why any company would pay to have custom made RAM. I don't see how it would be worth it for the manufacturer either.

8GB is plenty. BL2 maybe uses 3GB, OS 1-2GB depending. Plenty of headroom.

AMD Processor are known to overheat but have incredible performance, I suggest changing the cooler to avoid this problem.
This is what I have works nicely.

building a good computer is not about buying the cheapest parts, it is doomed to fail.
a $100 cpu, and its AMD -barf-
a 400w psu to power a 760 video card?? I don't know....
also you can find 2 TB HDDs for $75, why settle for 1tb...etc etc
a good motherboard is/should be around $150, not 50.

a good/great computer will cost you $1400-1600.

quality costs money.

I understand that, but with school and other expenses, I am not in a position to blow that king of money, I struggled to muster up $950, that all I have in budget

you are talking about a gaming pc / stuff for twitch etc etc, as is it will not cut it.
you have a budget, so maybe it is not the time to buy it, just save more money.

I want to, but my current desktop is ancient, and if am gonna spend money on a new one anyways, why not put a couple more and get a pretty good one suitable for gaming?

1400-1600? What?

That's blatantly untrue unless you live in Australia.

There's nothing wrong with $100 CPUs and that's actually the main selling point for going AMD. 400W is plenty for a GTX 760. And a good motherboard does not need to be around $150...

I count the monitor towards the price and I will not go cheap.
When did memory become so expensive? I remember when $40 was enough for 8GB.

On the other side, there is no point in buying really expensive parts if it serves you no good. Its like the people that always recommend top of the line flagship stuff for clients looking to buy a gaming rig were they just want to play minecraft. You dont need an i7 with a SLI'd 780 and a 1400watt powersupply.

Not everyone's needs are the same as yours. 1tb is plenty for 90% of the PC population.

HDDs are so cheap that is doesn't hurt to get a bit bigger drive if there ever is need for it.

Hear, hear. A 2TB drive is enough to keep you from managing file sizes. You don't want to waste so much time opening a few GB of space.

O, thanks, I didn't plan to overclock so it's fine. Is there a reason why you recommended the i5 instead of AMD?

A lot of explaining to do (just google) but intel is way more powerful in general. Since you are streaming I suggest you to get the FX 8350.

There is an upgraded version of the mobo and it's an extra of $14. I think there aren't big differences but you can check it out it's the pro version.

This may seem like a stupid question, but I genuinely don't know. If I were not to select any os, and buy it later, what would my computer be like whe I run it?

If you want an OS you don't have to pay for you could use Linux or something for a while. Or SteamOS which is a version of Linux if that's out.

Without an operating system your system wouldn't be very functional. I honestly would recommend purchasing one unless you decide to use some variation of Linux. As of right now I can't say I'd recommend using Linux for gaming.

If you plan to go with an AMD processor at least go for either an FX 6300 or an FX 8320. Recently I've seen the FX 8320 match the price of the FX 6300 at around $130, either would be fine for gaming. If you don't plan to overclock the stock cooler that comes with the processor will work fine. For the motherboard I honestly would recommend going for an ATX unless you decide to go with an mATX case, in that case stick with an mATX motherboard. If you're in need of a budget ATX AM3+ motherboard for your processor the GA-970A-D3P seems like a fair choice for $80. The ram you chose would work but 16GB of ram is more than you would really need. You can pick up a decent 8GB kit between $70 and $80. You can get your hands on a Kingston Fury Red Series kit that's clocked at 1866 for 72.99 on Amazon. If you plan to get a SSD consider getting a 120GB or larger, 64GB will be sufficient enough for the installation of your OS and some software but over time you'll wish you had more space (personal experience). If you're going to pick up a hard disk to store the majority of your files on consider a WD Caviar Blue 1TB drive, they're only about $55. The video card you selected will work great! Great price too! Your choice of case is fine, plenty of airflow and room for future upgrades. For your power supply I would recommend getting your hands on something that's a tad larger than what you would need. If you're system is expected to draw 400w I would recommend getting at least a 500w if not higher just to be safe. Also consider getting a modular power supply if cable management is important to you. Take note that I'm no expert and these are just my personal recommendations. You're certainly making good progress! Best of luck to you! :)

I would recommend building your computer based on the system requirements for Dead Rising 3, so that you may not have to upgrade for a while. (Note: Dead Rising 3 will not be released on PC until September, however the system requirements are listed and the game can be pre-purchased.)

I also strongly recommend not buying a case bundled with a power supply. You will likely get one that is incompatible.

Yeah let's build a computer based on a Xbone title that will come to PC unoptimized and locked to 30 FPS on console peasant level, WOOHOOO!

  • Get a FX 8320 with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler instead.
  • I'd recommend Asus motherboard like Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+
  • Get 8GB of RAM instead.
  • Get 128 GB SSD or don't get any at all. 64 GB is just pointless and waste of money.
  • Get ATX Mid Tower case not Full Tower.
  • Get a Corsair or SeaSonic power supply with 500W-600W.
  • Also throw in some 120mm fans for rear exhaust and front panel(if not included in case).

^^This - and also your HDD is 2.5" which is a laptop model. I would recommend finding a good deal on a western digital black 3.5" desktop HDD. The black series is for gaming - which is going to be useful if you are game recording or streaming.

This is amongst the best you can get for that money, however it doesn't include an SSD. If you buy an SSD, 120/128GB is the minimum.

Go intel for gaming you wont regret it, amd may sport more cores at less cost even frequency, but that doesnt necessarily equate to better gaming performance, video editing sure, but not gaming, an i3 2120 beats out many supposedly superior amd cpu's when used for gaming. I use nvidia as well myself but have been gaining interest in radeon cards as the mantle feature seems more useful than hardware physx and plan to upgrade to an r9 280x or 270x depending on ebay prices, the cooler temps are a bonus as well as lower price for performance, nvidia control panel is a btter ui and the nvidia driver support seems to have been better in my experience, but in the end its all down to what you want and what you want to do with it. As for a psu id suggest corsair same brand for ram as well they make good stuff.

That build is terrible, go with this.
You said you're not going to overclock so there's no reason to get a CPU coolers, especially one that isn't even that good at the price.

Your processor was outdated so I changed it.

Changed your hard drive too since Hitachi has bad reputation.

Also added a PSU which is essential.

Changed the ram too.
