Calling visual novels games is a REALLY big insult to the gaming industry.

I did Lillys first. The only path I haven't done yet is Shizunes.

While the nicely explained idea of the game seemed really cute (Disabled people need love too), what ticked me off was that even though all of the characters were somehow handicapped, they were all still manga-esque perfectly pretty, even the girl with burn wounds.
This may sound creepy, true, but what i mean is - What about people who are ugly or disfigured? Seems kinda unfair to them.

I haven't played Katawa Shoujo (nor planning to) but...
Would players feel empathy and compassion for god ugly teen girls? Probably not, and they would toss the game away.
Would players feel 'something' for disabled but all too cute & barely legal teen girls? Most likely, and they would develop various fantasies and fanfic about it.

That's kinda my point, it's trying to appeal to primitive instincts. You're not supposed to see the fact that they're disabled but are normal people, but instead you're supposed to think they're hot.
I like what they're trying to do, but i don't like their method.

Ok, i think i see your point.

I tried it out and seems like a nice game but I'm just not a big fan of the visual novel format it seems. Might as well read a proper novel imo.
Also though the subject matter seems to be handled delicately the game is still composed of all the stereotypical tropes that are common in Japanese romance manga, anime and other products that base themselves around the same theme.

I enjoyed it, but on my first play through I tried to get the Lilly branch. I did this by shunning all the girls who are not her, and if you aren't nice to Hanako then you can't get on Lily's branch >.>
So I got the bad ending and died on my first play through. Not the best first impression...

The first time I played I fight with emi
I knew what i had to choose to go to the last chapter
But I was angry with the character because she did exactly what my girlfriend =(
So I did what I did with my girlfriend (try to help her but she didnt want it and i got offended) then she got angry with me and left me =(
Because she will leave you and will have a heart attack =P

Better yet, just don;t discuss the game, then most of us are winners!

I should give it a try some time. I haven't played many VN's (I haven't finished Koihime Musou or Shuffle) but it still seems interesting enough. The only thing that puts me off about some vn's is the fact that you can get bad endings which kind of makes me avoid them since I like having certainty of a good ending ._. (It's the reason why I'm never gonna play School Days..)

Read this if you have nothing to do, I put some effort into it.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I'll have to be honest and said that I have experienced this so-called visual novel and I don't think it's bad. Being a person who has Asperger's syndrome, although it states Yamaku doesn't accept mentally challenged students and doesn't teach you all the important stuff about science and math and history but rather a high school that "improves social skills, communication, and the basics in order to be prepared for the normal, public schools or jobs in the future" or something like that, I find it to be quite relaxing.
You can choose to skip dialogue once you've read it before, choose auto and adjust the speed in the main or pause menu, or just by clicking--I don't find clicking the best way after a while.
There are several paths of individuals you can experience, but that depends on the choices that you make. There are a total of five characters in all. My suggestion is to save the game every time you need to make a choice. That way if you want to see the novel differently you can make another choice, then if it's the same dialogue you can just pause and choose "Skip mode."
Before I got into it, somebody posted a link in a Steam chatroom. I was bored so I clicked it without thinking about it and I downloaded it and started. To my surprise, it was much different than I intended it to be. It began calmly as I saw a beautiful watercolor picture of a winter forest scene. Now that that's done, let me tell you a little about this VN.
The music tracks seem to be a bit redundant, but in some other parts it's more appropriate. I was so intrigued and put in about 15 hours or so, now I'm trying to access the other separate storylines.
The path that I finished first was Lilly, and that was all through my eyes and decisions, not walkthroughs as I've been doing with other characters to this point. I have to say that this novel actually sparked my interest. I'm not trying to ruin anything, but when I reached the end on Lilly's path it felt so enlightening and heartwarming that I couldn't stop thinking about it, even after I shut my computer down and went to sleep. It's like if I was reading it and was in the same situation; I felt myself choke up and tear a little which doesn't happen often due to me not fully understanding the complexity of emotions. It had that much of an impact. The others weren't as indelible as I can remember them, but I do remember particular things like Hisao learning sign language so he can communicate with someone.
This visual novel also helped me pay attention to detail, I couldn't do that more efficiently in the past when I read books. It's the way that Hisao--A.K.A. yourself--explains what he sees and thinks about each person and situation. It's as if he has already lived it and is explaining to you, but at the same time it feels like the present and the sudden realization that you need to read more.
Surely it says it's not intended for anybody under 18 years old considering what I have seen; strong language and provocative situations, but there are no love-making CGI cutscenes. The way that the cutscenes are displayed is a very nice touch and a fresh breath of air after seeing picture after picture with just the typical characters and their shifts in facial expressions and body language. Even without the visuals, I can still picture everything Hisao says as every description pops up on the screen. It's as if I did not need the visual imagery to aid me in the story.
I have to say that this VN has changed me as a person, but it's even more intriguing that it's about this kid who transfers to a high school for disabled students and I'm a person who goes to public schools/colleges. I thought this was just a waste of time, but if you have a lot of spare time to read every single story and piece of dialogue, it's not bad.
It's now complete; 100%. I'll still keep it, but I probably won't go back to it for a while.

There are sex scenes, you can disable them, however.
Hah, disable.
