Another one? I thought we had enough Sci-Fi Terrarias with just Starbound!

Implying that anyone has actually played Starbound yet... This one is shaping up nicely.

To be fair, I am lying. You can never have enough Sci-fi Terrarias.

How about Sci-fi Minecrafts? Corneroids and Starmade are at least two I can think of that are taking a nice approach to it. Of those I've tried I can't really say I've had too many of those either. More of a type is always better unless the game is shit ^.^

But Starbound it's actually doing good.

When I stopped working for them they were still doctoring the images. Sure, everything -looks- nice, but how much of it is real? Hopefully a lot more now than before.

I'm not buying it because the dev shamelessly abandoned the game for months and only came back to release one more patch to promote it when it came out for XBox, or when preorders for Starbound were announced or something. And then he vanished again.

Why can't there be more Halo clones, I ask? When did shooters get so boring? Give me Elite Force over Modern Warfare 3 any day.

You do know that most shooters are the way they are today because they started taking elements from halo right

Has nothing to do with Terraria. Blue hangs out as a forum moderator from time to time, but they have no active relation with Re-Logic. The last I understood, Redigit was working on Terraria again, has plans for something bigger (since Terraria was a 'practice' game for him), and has actively supported Edge of Space from the sidelines.

you know that at first Terraria had 2 developers right?...Tiy was the 2nd dev and they were called Red(Redigit) and Blue(Tiy)...I know that cuz I was following Terraria's development since it was in Alpha...

You must not have followed it very well then! Tiy is not Redigit or Blue. Tiy goes by Tiyuri. He did some art contributions toward the end of Terraria and left to do his own thing.

Fair warning: the consensus so far on this game is that it really sucks. Even starting a single player game is a nightmare apparently, and it really feels like the devs have just rushed to capitalize on the style before Starbound comes out. Hell, the "Special Edition" which is $13 bucks MORE than the standard version, is "special" because it has:

  • "First Responder Armor"
  • "Sugar Glider Pet"
  • "Upgraded Pickaxe: Dig Faster" (seriously?)

At the very least don't buy this until it comes out with an actual release, or just wait for Starbound and the eventual direct comparisons between the two.

As for the similarity to Terraria, Redigit has given his blessing to both games, but has no involvement other than that.

How is the single player game "a nightmare"?
I really enjoy the game. Just wondering, where is your consensus? "Rushed to capitalize on the style" I doubt that...

I think he's talking about this and with a little more looking on the forum, I don't like this either.

The first link is a thread dedicated to people who can't get past the always online DRM launcher and therefore can't even play single player.

The second is a thread asking about hacking, and the devs say "lol, we don't care."

No comment on the first link, but what's the issue with the second link?

He pretty much just says "[...]really all you are doing is hurting your own experience lol." which makes enough sense to me. If people want to break their experiences by giving themselves godmode, what's the issue with that? It's not as if they had an in-game market like the likes of the d3 auction house, or even that players are forced to play with other players, like in an MMO sort of arena.

The issue is that as far as I know, it is an online game, just like Terraria is, how you can make your own single player version or open it up to other players and the devs say that they're not going to do anything about hacking. It'd be like if you could hack in online games in Killing Floor or Minecraft.

"how you can make your own single player version or open it up to other players"

But that is the thing, you are free to open the game up to players at your pleasure, and to play with whoever you please. I'm sure multiplayer edge of space works like a listen sort of server, much like Borderlands 2 and minecraft, which means there are no official servers. Compounded upon it is the fact that there is also no real way to prevent "hacking" altogether — the most popular online games simply try to patch the more accessible ones, and turn to banning the abusers that get by. But with no official servers or systems, what is there to ban them from?

You CAN hack in minecraft servers, and I'm sure there are plenty of tools to do so. But doing so will probably get you banned from a server by the admin, and nothing more. You can hack in non-VAC Killing Floor servers as well, though once again, you'll simply face similar repercussions.

Ultimately, it works exactly like how I imagine terraria to be like (never played it before, shamefully). I am pretty confident that hacking is present in terraria as well, but like all games of this nature, you're free to kick/ban these users from your game. They ultimately just spoil the game for themselves.
