Thats what I expected it would do. But it doesn't

The trickiest part would probably just be calculating what page it's on, but perhaps that could be done once and cached in the database? Then the only time it might change is when root-level comments are deleted, at which point the positions can be recalculated for just those topics; for any new topics, the page # can be calculated and stored on entry.

That's a standard feature in all common forums systems, and it's simple to implement, especially since the number of posts for page is fixed. But it seems to me that this whole site is custom-built and features take time and energy to be added.

Right, I've developed custom features for different sites and it can take a lot of care and focus. I was hoping for some community feedback and acknowledgement so we can know if they intend to implement this at all, but perhaps the forums aren't the best place. I might make a support ticket since I just took a look on that page and it invites me to submit one if I have suggestions. :)

I'd love that feature to be added. What I usually do is CTRL+G the name of the user who has replied to me.

If you could read and comprehend yourself (as well as you bitch), you would see I answered his first question.
And in that simple answer is actually a way [answer] to make it possible (his second question) if the coding was enabled on this site.

Right, there's no need for it to update me about every post like a subscribed thread. It currently acts like a pager, notifying me of responses directly to me (which is great!). :) It teases me with the conversation, however, and doesn't let me do anything about it without looking for the conversation amid the comments to pick up where we left off. Doesn't it seem like it's missing the piece that directs me to the conversation to continue the discussion?

i would love this, it's very irritating to search for your post in a long thread and then reply to somebody.

Another problem I've found is that sometimes (maybe 1 - 5% of the time) replies do not show up on the reply feed. I have not quite narrowed down the cause of this, though it seems to happen more often when I get a lot of replies within a short period of time, or when a reply is several levels deep (e.g. I reply to a post, someone replies back, and then we go back and forth three or four times and then suddenly his new replies no longer show up on the feed).

I once opened a thread about it
It happens every time you open a thread and get answers within answers. I don't know if there are other cases too.

Yeah but sometimes even if they are direct replies you still don't see them.

Am I missing something on it? It seemed very useful to keep a discussion alive until I tried to do so. I don't see anything that lets me respond to the reply, and the link to the topic goes to the first page, not where the comment is (which could easily be several pages deep).
Would it be possible to have a link to jump to the right page/post?
e.g. .../page/4/#12423185
Each comment seems to have a number available already as a rel attribute for the reply button container. It would simply need to be added as a named anchor also, at the beginning of the comment container.
This is the page I'm referring to:
http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/replies
Thanks!
