I did the same, but activated on my son's account by mistake. Wrote to Steam support on his behalf, they responded fairly quickly, said that it is our responsibility which account we activate keys on, but just this one time, out of good will, they removed the game from his account and made the key active again — so I activated it on mine.
Made me like Steam a little bit more, some nice people working there for sure. So worth a try in your case, without any guarantees.

Now I just feel bitter at how flippant Steam Support were with my Alien Colonial Marines issues. lol

Yeah, I usually get good support experience from small teams only. Big companies usually don't want to spend on good support staff, and can afford losing a client, or two, or a thousand… So Valve definitely did surprise me on this one. I also had a really nice support chat with Amazon, but that's all for such lucky cases.
I hope at some point you'll have your share of nice support people too (or, better, no need to turn to support at all :D)

That most likely came from the recent Humble Monthly. Was the game delivered as a gift link or a key?
Comment has been collapsed.
OK, that's worrisome. If it had been delivered as a gift link then you could be more assured that the person who gave it to you was the original purchaser, and they could have simply asked Humble to revoke the game from Steam and then once that was done sent you a new gift. The fact that they gave you a key means that they may have gotten the game from someone or somewhere else, so now fixing this is more difficult. I would go ahead and explain what happened and ask them if they got the game directly from Humble and see what they say.

Out of habit, I tend to always send gift links whether trading or bundle splitting or giving games away, because it eliminates any chance that someone can claim that a key was used when it wasn't, or that I might make a mistake and send a used key.

It can matter in the sense that if you suspect foul play, for example the dear winner posting the received key on G2A, you can ask HB support to revoke the original and send you a new one. If it was a gift link, they are more inclined to believe you, AFAIK.

But it doesnt matter to the fact og giving away or trading it. you still cant prove really you gave a working one
To the thing with support i have no knowledge since i never did anyhting with, but would wonder me if they really to the work without bigger reasons. but again there i dont know it and so its only guessing on my side.

Delete your account, make a new one, travel to Mexico and eat tacos. Take some tacos to your country, sell them = profitz.

I need more details, what's the profit margin on these tacos? Should I rent a food truck or find a place of business wherein I can peddle my wares? Any suggestions on taco suppliers? How do I keep them fresh?
I've deleted my account and booked the plane tickets but I need the details before Wednesday, thanks.

u will have to buy the game. i wish u luck that it is a bundled game and not a full tier AAA game
Comment has been collapsed.
The only solution is that you must buy the game and activate it in your account. You can try though to persuade the giveaway creator to ask humble bundle to cancel the key and give him another key to send you.

I've heard that it's possible. Just ask the giveaway creator. :P

If they didn't get it from Humble and you need to buy the game, then here are some folks who are selling a copy:

Crusade against SGTools and at the very same time silently enter as much SGTools giveaways as you possibly can and take the winz. :3

Thank you for looking into your favorite mirror. :X

But they can't enter the giveaways because they own the game. Plan is flawed, Mr. Owl.

Yeah, what Mullins said. So long as the friend didn't have the game in their account during any previous sync with SG, staff shouldn't be able to detect that it was previously in account, if it even comes to that. So in theory that is an option.
It's, like, the most involved and unreliable option there is, but y'know, gotta do whatcha gotta do. :P

Buy it. That's honestly the best, if not the only solution. Either trade for it or buy it at full price, then activate it to your account.
Comment has been collapsed.
How do you activate by error anyway ?
You are not supposed to share accounts...
You should use Family share, it is just safer and dedicated to sharing.

I did something very similar... activated key on wrong account. I ended up having to buy a copy to avoid the penalty of not having activated a win. It was a painful lesson, but not one I am likely to forget. The other option I considered was asking around/making a trade for the game and activating that. If you have some spare game keys you might be able to work out a trade.

Actually you can get the key revoked from there :)
I did the same whit skullgirls, i mean i have on my account sukkligirls + ALL DLC and i dont know why when i entered the key i was going to give my friend it activated too, i send a message to steam and they revoked. "as One time only service"

Edit : Steam Support revoked the key and I activated the game on my account. It took 3 days. ( Thanks Nabchanted and Antomas )
