Nice I guess but I don't see myself replaying Skyrim after I 100%'ed and modded it to oblivion a few years back.
On another note, it's funny that I spend more time modding and trying to run the game without crashing than actually playing the game, it's kinda tradition now with every Elder Scroll game.

Sweet! Glad I recently got the game with all it's DLC.

Rockstar Games could take some lessons
Bethesda may have a bit of a rep for buggy releases (not like they're alone in that) and awful UIs (so glad we have mods!) but they actually seem to give more than a few damns about their customers which is always nice to see

A lot of people still saying there's no need for this on PC and I can see where they're coming from but there's also no reason for Bethesda not to release t considering they already had it It being free for current owners is a nice surprise, though announcing just prior to the summer sale is obviously meant to drive sales of Legendary Edition.

Gifting has nothing to do with what I was saying. Announcing this free upgrade just before the summer sale is Bethesda's attempt to push people to buy. People wouldn't have jumped on LE if they hadn't announced this till after the sale and they know relatively few people will buy it as it is as it offers almost nothing new to the existing pc version. If they give it away however they will then like use owners in place of sale figures which will look significantly better.

Since this Special Edition basically seems to be Skyrim with some of the mods implemented (as far as I can tell), it technically is them selling the mods. Chances are they will stop putting the non-Special stuff on sale (Capcom did that with Devil May Cry 4, cuz every step forward has to be the beginning of a jog to kick you between the legs for them) so anyone who didn't own the Legendary Edition already will have to buy the Special Edition instead (assuming they wanna play the full game). And since it's "new" it will have less good sales for a while. Of course, that's just an assumption on my part, but there is no profit for them in doing it otherwise and big companies like Bethesda are all about the profit (them giving this for free to owners of the Legendary Edition is not them losing profit since those are the people least likely to buy the Special Edition anyway and they can use this as positive PR).
But, anyway, if they decide to use this as an opportunity to somehow sell the rest of the mods to us (overlooking how that worked out when they tried doing that through Steam), I wouldn't really care since I don't use mods all that much anyway (literally used only the one on Steam that is a big fat community-made bug fix).

Nice! Do you have to do something before hand, or just wait until October 28th?
Because I hate waiting and the uncertainty won't let me breath until it appears in my library.
And holy crap do I hate waiting.

just wait until October 28th, you can do nothing before that :)

I'd rather they stop remaking old games and get around to fixing Fallout 4.

They know the community will fix it. And I'm pretty sure this is why they don't care about porting Morrowind as it is already in the works. COnvince he group that does it to sell it as a paid mod, and they'll get at least 40% of the revenue for doing nothing.

That's really kind of them, although this announced "Special Edition" does not seem to address any of the grudges I had with the game.

What's the difference between the normal skyrim and this special edition one?

The Special Edition includes the critically acclaimed game and add-ons with all-new features like remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more. Skyrim Special Edition also brings the full power of PC mods to consoles. New quests, environments, characters, dialogue, armor, weapons and more – with Mods, there are no limits to what you can experience.

For those missing DLC (thus potentially missing out on the freebie): Note the Legendary Edition was turned into a Steam Bundle.
So in theory bundle discount should be in effect and give more sensible prices for the DLCs during the next big sale.
