Is it that bad or what?

Probably because of the gameplay hours. Not because its bad.

FC3: Blood Dragon and CoJ: Gunslinger must be twice as bad, because they cost half as much!

Seriously, I'm glad we're starting to see AAA quality games come out with reasonable playtimes and price points.

It's a 6-8 hour standalone game, not a DLC.

Back in the day we called that an expansion. Nothing wrong with being an expansion, especially when it's a brand new story and had brand new marketing to sell it.

" Just because it's standalone dosen't make it an own game."

Actually, that's exactly what it means.

Agreed. Of course, Blood Dragon was awesome because it did something that no one had really done that much before (over the top neo-80's cyber-cool sandbox shooter) and dialed it up to 11.

So, you could just re-release a game that was already made, remove all story or cutscenes, put a different skin over stuff and it's a completely different game?

$30 base price for a year old game that was recently ported? Seems pretty normal to me.

I'm suprised the base price is 19,99 euro. The port must be crap.

While it is the first game from Platinum games to receive a PC port, both Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 have been ported to PC by Konami, along with other titles they have published. I imagine they had some help.

Mind you, the PC port for MGS1 (published via Microsoft) was rock solid, the port for MGS2 (done by someone else) was a shitport. So, no guarantees on the quality of the port there...

In my experience the PC port for MGS1 was quite shitty.

I dont believe that people cant afford a 10$ gamepad.. It played just like on ps1 but with better resolution and frame rate so whats so bad about that?

You can get cheap items in Slovakia too; heh but you'll likely have to pay just as much for shipping so yeah, doesn't always work out.

Im not talking about an xbox360 controller. You can get some really cheap no brand controllers. I personally use a Logitech F710 which I got for 28eur. I probably would have purchased a no brand controller if I didn't enjoy playing with a gamepad that much.

Well the whole zandatsu ("zan" meaning "cut" and "datsu" meaning to "remove/take by force") idea came out of Kojima Productions, where an internal team was set to create the game. Kojima not being happy by the progress made (or lack there of) helped get Platinum Games on-board in late 2010/early 2011 (although this wasn't made public until December 2011). Konami just published the title, but Kojima Productions is wholly owned by them. Most of the gameplay/art elements were headed up by Platinum Games but members from KojiPro did work on the writing, cutscenes, etc.

It's an interesting game, a bit short in terms of gameplay and don't expect a MGS-like experience (which resulted in the name of the game being changed) but it has some fun re-playable elements if you like the concept to begin with. I don't know if there is a demo for PC (which both consoles got but seem to be much rarer on the PC than they used to be) but maybe check out a Let's Play video with the PC version to see if you might be interested. Mouse/KB sounds really painful in this type of game, not to say it's impossible but controller highly recommended.

Why that makes it cheap?

Because it's coming out on the PC almost a year later. Unlike some developers Platinum is at least pricing it fairly considering that fact.

"Fair" in this case is subjective. Are you basing it on expectations of the game, so it should be higher/lower? Are you basing it off what Platinum and Konami need to break even and see a profit? Shouldn't we consider the cost of physical retail verses digital media, such as shipping to stores and the cost of display?

To me all "fairly" means is that the company can still make a profit and consumers feel it is worth paying that price.
Unfair would be purposefully limiting it and dangling it in peoples faces, pretending it's a limited edition, then some months later releasing it to everyone. That would be unfair to consumers and insulting.

Platinum's recent games are all cheaper than AAA releases, if I remember correctly Anarchy Reigns was 30$ on release day

It's not cheap, the rest is just expensive and Platinum aren't greedy asses. For an old port it is a very fair price for a great game. Just need to wait how the port turns out.

Permalink

That pricing will maximize sales. It's a cheap price for PC players who haven't played the game yet and console players might even re-buy on PC.

It was 33% off during the winter sale at one point, it seems Konami either starts their pc releases cheap or takes into effect that the game on the 360/ps3 is probably worth about that now.

Could be they're just trying to get some pc love to charge more for future releases.

Except that's not really true. Physical copies tends to be cheaper (same "recommended price" as the price in digital stores, but then stores try to compete with each other/stay relevant compared to digital stores, by selling games for a lower price). Digital sales obviously (but not always) tend to be cheaper than physical copies.

Who cares why. Let's just rejoice that it is cheap.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its not uncommon to see ports cheaper than their console counterparts. This game was out on console for over a year before its hitting PC. There's also stuff like NBA 2k series, which is 29.99 new the same day that the console game came out. They want people to buy it multiple times.

Price does not always have a bearing on whether a game is good or bad.

Price does not determine quality. It's a fun game that the publisher feels it will be best from a business perspective to sell at this price. That's it.

Whats bad is steam sucking @ konami to implement a fucking "special" region lock which is the first of it's kind to be implemented.

Namely called: AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting and AllowPurchaseFromRestrictedCountries

Someone had to be first =p (of course I hope that this isn't the start of a trend). I always find it interesting when games produced in said country aren't for sale there (I mean, I know consoles/handhelds rule Japan, but it's not like Konami could point to "licensing issues").

actually I feel like its still too expensive. I bought my copy of mgs rising revengeance on ps3 for 10 used. Granted thats used but I would expect stuff to run at least comparable on steam if it's digital only. It shouldn't be anymore then $20 thats for sure since it's essentially used also being you only get the game no book no case no bonus soundtrack if u got it from walmart etc. If anything its worst then a used copy since u don't legally have anything but rather the right to use it.

That being said I love steam but when I saw this for 30 I immediately thought wow what a rip off

i didn't think it was a rip off since steam usually sales at around new price

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's $30 because it's an older game; you can get it for fairly cheap on consoles now, so $50 or $60 on PC would be overpriced. It's the same thing with Dark Souls, which launched at $40 on PC, but was full price on consoles.

Permalink

I don't think it's cheap. Could be cheaper. It's an old game and it's very short and ugly looking probably low budget. There's better games out there which are even cheaper.
