I just dislike it so much that they throw in multiple categories for multiple days. It's only an incentive for starting or 'playing' it, not actually finishing. Though at least the thumbnails are great reminders for already owned games, we usually navigate jarder with the typical library listing.

I don't get it? I can't seem to figure out what exactly steam wants me to do? Whenever I play the game it asks me to, nothing even happens? Am I just being extra dumb here? I'm so confused.
Edit: Ah. Guess it just takes Steam quite a while to update.

In theory, you just need to launch a game that satisfies one of the requirements (Steam suggests you these games on the event's page). If it's not working for you, then that's probably a glitch on Steam's part.

Yeah I've been doing that with at least 5 different games already but nothing at all happens -.- I guess thanks anyways!

Not a fan of this kind of event, myself. Just (re)downloading a game so I can launch it to satisfy the badge's requirements... or using SAM... Not my idea of fun.
And by the way, my "Blast from the Past (excluding last year's Killing Floor)" game is Defence Alliance 2. So pretty much "install Killing Floor, then go through the hassle of installing the mod". Yeah, no.

Hmm? I think most of us know that you don't have to actually play the game, that launching it is enough. The issue people are having is that they don't want to download all those games again ;D

I guess, I had the luxury of a stable internet. Downloading and launching appeals more to me than installing other programs. XD Also realised you know it after reading through your other replies to others. Too late by then but I dont have the habit of deleting my comments, so that's that. No biggie, just wanted to let others know its doable in a stable condition. It was pretty ok for me, didn't take too long for me. Especially you can also choose games that are small to download. :) Have a great weekend ahead.

I see, fair enough :) Thank you, have a great weekend, yourself!

Grim Dawn is a great game in my opinion, but unfrotunatelly you can't get majority of the achievements without DLCs. That's something I personally hate. But if you don't care about achievs or will get base game + DLCs, then go right ahead :)

You dont have to play the games, just install and launch them for them to register. Indeed I am also looking at Grim Dawn, its pretty pricey imo. I just recently returned to Dont Starve Together which is one of the games that is Free. Hopefully, I'll get some time to try out Grim Dawn. :)

Hahaha, sure! You can play them But but but, there's a time limit to play the Free Weekend! I still hasn't get down to Grim Dawn, speaking of which, I am going to download after this comment. XD
Sure, you can go back to the games you installed during the event BUT! Choose carefully, for either the installation is big and take a long time, OR You'll get lost in the games you started playing rather than the FW hahaha XD which happens in my case.
For me I think I only want to try Grim Dawn for the FW. I only wanted to test my internet connectivity for Dead by daylight but its probably not worth trying, I have Endless Space 2 so that's that.
I hope you enjoy Grim Dawn. Have a great weekend playing! Regards, Cruse~

I did the Steam daily tasks fairly quickly. Did not have the time to play much of Grim Dawn tho. I spent much of the weekend working out, trying to get back on a workout routine.
I did enjoy myself with the few hours I played. Cleared the 1st area, its similar to Diablo and Torchlight. The system is easy to get into, there are similarities but also differences. The art style is similar to Darkest Dungeon? I do not know what style that is called; Baroque Style? I initially wanted to melee but I picked up a musket and started blasting heads off them zombies and decided to go that way instead, hahaha. Its really fun, I missed the Chrono deal . . . I was sleeping. I would have bought it since their price is generally high even on big Steam sales. Too bad, missed 2 great deals this week with Cat Quest 80% being the other. ALTHOUGH! I have a huge backlog and I am trying to play my wins 1st. Hahaha so they are really not a bad miss after thinking that way. :)
Again, have a great weekend ahead, Cruse~

It's a really cool game. Don't worry about cheevos, it has some of the multiple playthrough/ insane grind types, you can get the dlcs cheaper by the time you finish most of the cheevos. (Also dlcs are good dlcs, with extra class and content)

Cool event 👍🏻 Replayed some games I haven’t touched in a while. Also laughing at myself for already dying past Day 2 in Don’t Starve Together 😂 But hopefully TF2 is done downloading tomorrow and I'll play it for the "Blast from The Past" project.
I got 1 badge today, so it went from Lvl 11 to 12. Thought “Awesome! Can I add one more profile showcase now?” Then remembered, oh yeah, we only get that every 10 levels, right? (10, 20, 30, and so on)
Also had no idea this was a thing, so it’s really cool ‘cause I’ve been holding off buying any cards to craft badges. I’d like to only make badges for games that I really enjoyed and/or “worked hard” on (a.k.a tough ones like Hotline Miami). So this is a helpful way to level up/get extra badges imho!

I wonder if people are going to play Desert Bus because I recommended it

You do not need to SAM or ASF, you don't even need to play the game. Basically, I chose a from the recommended selection for each task and project, downloaded the game, launch it. After an initial failing, which was Finding Paradise it was recommended under Spin Cycle. It is a game I am currently playing so it was a no-brainier. However, after launching the game it did not register for the daily task and disappeared from the selection.
Instead, I went on to download and did all other projects and tasks. Which I was able to complete ALL the projects and today's task. I did not play any of the games. One thing I did was Alt-Tab to check if the game registered and when it did, I exit the game. I am also logged in on Steam through the browser. I do not know if any of that makes a difference for those having issues but I almost wanted to post in this topic 1st before I am able to resolve it myself.
Hope everyone else is able to resolve their issue, maybe also try to clear your browser cache, reinstall the game if you previously had it already installed before the event. I am using a new system which has no installation history, that might be a factor but I also used my old PC to fire up a CIV !!! which was in my selection and able to clear the project.
Regards and Cheers, Cruse~

By the going of the thread it almost turned into a SAM and ASF Steam event thread. I am just adding an option so people out there like myself whom prefer not to use those programs; know that its doable without the use of other programs. After the initial glitch I had encountered, I was thinking whether I really need to download any program to finish the event. I have past experience of Steam not registering in previous event and missed out on 1st day tasks so I am glad I am able to avoid. I am 100+ xp to my next Level so I do not want to miss out on this event. Regards~

I am starting to be more grateful to my internet connection than I previously was. I always thought I was on the downside being in SEA, my internet speed can't compare to NA, EU, Taiwan/Korea. I am thinking differently now. I multitask most of the time so I just select the games like today, Q the games for installation. I browse the gifts to enter and while I was at it installation was complete. Today, I installed Tales of Borderlands and Majesty Gold, actually 2 more games since Steam refreshed the list later.
ASF and SAM does provide that option for others where connectivity is an issue. I do stand by my preference, I rather not participate in my case if I had a worst connectivity. I had gone through that 56k dial up era during my school days so I understand the frustration of lower download speed. I am now at a better standing infrastructure wise so that is a choice I can make.
I do respect your choice. Have a good weekend ahead. :)

You don't need to use any program besides steam!(if you don't farm cards like me and don't have the free time these days) steam "gives you the tools". Download TF2 (9gb) and edit the steam api text file with the api for the game you need, execute the exe from the folder, done.
Also, will start playing tf2 again so its not 9gb to remove again that soon :)

The tag achievement doesn't work. I applied tags to CSGO and Jamestown and didn't get the achievement.

Day 1 complete. Weird that it identifies my first game as HL2 when I actually bought the entire Orange Box, so the classic hit Ricochet should also be a correct option. I didn't even know I was waiting all these years to make that joke.
I wonder if there will be any secrets to this 'event' or if this is really the extent of it.

You have to play it after you add the tag. If it isn't working, I apologize, because I don't know how to help beyond that.
Here's what I did:
Went to Dino D-Day's store page (a game I own)
Clicked the little plus sign ( + ) next to the tags found under "Popular user-defined tags for this product:"
Clicked the little plus sign ( + ) next to "Alternate History"
Clicked the Close button
Ran Dino D-Day
Then it gave me credit for Tag Contributor

try to play all games in that section, even under "+" button.

yeah, it was left 4 dead for me, last chance and the last game i had tried

You need to actually add the free weekend itself from the Steamstore. Different license since the original one is the full game, and they're not giving that away. You could use addlicense if you hunt down the one used for this specific free weekend, but just hitting install on the store is faster and easier.
Probably need that tomorrow.
