Thanks for letting me know :)
Looks like a lot of work tho^^

2 3 words: SAM or ASF I was dumb enough to do it manually, but with fast internet is not too bad even with big games
It tells you exactly which games to play so you don't have to play the guessing game either :)

Its not dumb to do it manually coz that's what I did hahaha. I did download them in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping in my area so the connectivity was pretty smooth There were initial hitches when the 1st game I launched did not register. All in all the process is pretty smooth and I got all 5 projects and 3 daily task done in 30mins. I am from SEA which I'll say is a dang good result. :) Cheers~

yay, Assetto Corsa on free weekend!!
and the ultimate version is supposed to be on sale with 75% discount but they are doing 50% in reality.
if they fix it, I might get it.

it's 75% of 80€ on my side.
for sure, it crawls on my potato machine, so I'll stick with the free weekend for now.

I can't remember exactly because I never used it but back in the days there was a simple trick to idle games where you install some small game then go to the install folder and rename it to the appid of the game you wanna idle.
Then you start the small game and Steam believes the other game is being played and records playtime for it.
As I said I never tried it so hopefully somebody will correct me if I got something wrong or you can probably also find a step by step guide with Google.

There's a video of this trick here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16UBdNTsd7I

Frankly, I might skip this mini-event because of that. Quite annoying to download some game just to play it for a couple of minutes to satisfy the badge requirements. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but not exactly the most convenient thing :/

Steam Download Simulator 2019. I skipped the event for the same reason. Plus I like keeping my "recently played" lists on BLAEO nice and tidy. :D
And I don't trust the alternative tools.

You dont have to play them but you do have to download them and launch the game. Downloading maybe an issue for you, you can try to put them in the Steam download Q and go to sleep/work and see if they are downloaded when you are awake/back. I did it without any other programs installed but I did have a stable download. Cheers~

Since it's an alt account I imagine it's because he hasn't purchased anything in a while. I also have an alt that I used back when you could store gifts in inventory, but I got a list of f2p games so didn't have to track any keys or buy anything.

Greetings. I don't want to use SAM o ASF, but I know there is a trick to “play” a game you have in your Steam Library in order to fulfill the quests for the badge, but I don't remember the steps. Anyone knows how to do it, please? Thanks in advance.
Comment has been collapsed.
I believe the "trick" is to launch the game lol. From what I gather, you don't really need to play the game, just launching and then closing it should work.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you mean the old appid trick. Not sure if my explanation is completely correct but you should be able to find a step by step guide under that name.

How do I use this ASF thing that is mentioned here? I dont want to install all the free games.
Comment has been collapsed.
I used SAM and it's really easy/user friendly.

there are lots of Threads about it here in the forum.

Download ASF, configure it, run it, enter manual command line ("c"), enter "play <appid>".
It works better to run the play commands sequentially rather than all the appid's at once. You only need to let it run the game for a second or two. You can resume automatic card farming (using "resume") or just exit the program when you're done.

Thanks God for ASF. I couldn't have played my first Steam game otherwise, since it's a Windows only game

Unfortunately, I don't have Linux either, and for what I read, Proton is not really good on OS X

FYI: If you have a game that shows up in multiple tasks/projects, you will complete only one of them, and the list for the other task/project will be regenerated. The possible exception here is the "free" games and your first/second game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh weird, maybe Steam decided to treat me like "We know you have ASF so we are going to F with your tasks' game lists to make things more difficult for you"

Just for the record, I completed both "Trusted Friend" and "Tag Contributor" by launching Shadow Tactics, so it does seem to count one game for multiple categories ;)

For the tag contributor. Didnt show anything for me as well. Tagged one random game and suddenly it showed bunch of games at the event page.
But I do have a problem with blast from the past. Its a game thats not in the store anymore and it doesnt show up in my library as well (Anno Online). Any ideas? with the ASF or SAF that others are mentioning here?

Didnt try it yet, but thanks for suggestion. Will try it later

I just want 3 more steam levels so I can get one more section showcase added to my Steam profile, then I'll stop caring about events & badges ;)

When the meta is the real game.
I really appreciate them throwing in a random generator for my library ( I can name 2 or 3 sites immediately that does the same) but I rather play my games when I'm in the mood for it, not immediately, and by downloading tens of gigs daily.
Maybe casual people outside of reddit/sg do it properly. They could use the money spent on this to buy exclusives though.

Am I the only one who was genuinely looking forward to that event? :/ Last year I installed Cities Skylines even though the download took longer than the Hundred Years War and I was just mildly interested in playing it, and I ended up liking it enough to put it on my wishlist, win it here, and play it for like 50 hours. Honestly if you don't try to rush through the event with ASF or all that stuff, and just do it casually by playing a couple games for like 20 minutes, it's pretty fun.
Comment has been collapsed.
I like it, too! I know technically I could play my backlog whenever I wanted, but having a clear goal makes it even more fun.
I do wish it gave you more time to play them, though. It's awesome that 20 minutes per game is enough for you! I personally always feel like I need to beat whatever I install before moving on. (In this case I lucked out; my first set of daily challenges included Subsurface Circular, which only takes two hours to finish.)

I mostly see this event as a way to try a few games, so 20 minutes is usually enough for me to get a first impression :) I might not go further into some of them, but sometimes it rustles my what-shall-I-play-next sequence and it's a nice change of pace.
For the replaying old games thing, I usually select short ones I can finish in a couple of hours (or things like roguelikes when I can just go for a run or two). This year's "Blast from the Past" happens to be one of them too so it will fit perfectly :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Roguelikes are perfect for Spring Cleaning! My "Blast from the Past" is Braid, which I haven't played yet and seems fairly long. I might just save it for the last day of the event and then keep playing it afterward.

Yay! I'm a .01%er!
...If only that paid anything in this case. Except I did enjoy one of my backlogs enough to keep it on y drive and keep playing it a while (Guts&Glory) and it also got me back into Grim Dawn a bit so I could finish elite level content

Oh boy, can't wait to install bunch of games just to launch them for the task and then uninstall once more! ;D
Btw for the Speed Clean one, do you have to play a different free game each day or can I just play L4D2 every day for it to count?
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know the trick and won't get any extra programs.

Go to your \Steam\SteamApps\common\ folder and find a game that has the file "steam_appid.txt" file.
Open it and replace the ID with that of a game you want to launch.
Now all you have to do is start the game.exe (not from Steam but from within the folder) and you can play any game without installing.
This also works to farm cards.

I'm just glad I have unlimited bandwidth now. Otherwise it would be a major pain to download some of them!
Comment has been collapsed.
That's the thing. Even if you wanted to take the event seriously (rather than just use an app to fake your plays) Valve's available selections for play tend to be incredibly cumbersome to work through. [Large install size aside, why would we want to reinstall any game that we've already "completed"?]
If the event used more "or" conditions in their tasks, let us pick from a selection of tasks each day, or otherwise gave us more options, the event would be a lot easier to take seriously.

Alas, it is the same for me. Except it will just be regular Dota 2 for me. The sad part is that I have no interest in the game at all! I only have it in my Library due to it being part of The Orange Box!
I will install it while I am sleeping and load it up after work tonight.

You have to put IPC mode ON,
make your Steam 64 ID in the SteamOwnerID field and then go to 127.0.0.1 in your browser and input:
play (AppID) or play 205790 for Dota 2 Testing. (https://steamdb.info/app/205790/)
