Were you able to see the image in any of the pictures below?
never was able to see anything in this pictures as a kid - have 2 books with these pictures lying around somewhere...maybe i have to train it oneday...but why? xD
Thanks anyway for this great puzzle-idea!

No reason to train if it's difficult. There's nothing that special about it. Most pictures are low quality and you just see the outline of objects in 3D. It's kind of fun for a little while, but it wears off quick. It would be a lot more fun if they could create really high resolution images, but I don't think it is possible because of the way you create the image by repeating the same pixels in different locations.

The 4th character has been written in the OP since I started the thread. The 3rd character is the same as the 4th, but reversed :)
Also, the second image is easier to see the letters if you haven't tried it already.

I have a hard time with that one as well. I need to keep the image on the smaller size to see it. It's just 2 rings that are connected and spinning in a circle. It's not that good of an image, I just added it because it was moving and I thought that was interesting.

Did you watch the video? There's no detail, just outlines, but it's pretty cool to see moving images.

I'm not going to try on a computer because it just feels unhealthy to the eyes and I can't get the picture fullscreen but I'm one of those people who can only see those hidden 3D images after I squint and then I always see them in inverted 3D. (As in things that are supposed to point toward me like the nose on a face are pointing inside and vice versa.)

Tell me about it, I'm staring at these things on a CRT monitor :(
On my phone (Iphone), I just use two fingers to zoom the page like any other and I can get them fullscreen. On my computer I use ctrl and the + or - on the number pad to zoom the page, but some of them don't look their best when full screen unless you move far back from the monitor.
I have never had the problem with seeing it inverted, not sure what would cause that.

I've never asked a doctor about it, maybe it's some sort of brain anomaly but back in the day when those books where popular I just went with the explaination that I use a similar but slightly wrong technique to be able to see those pictures that's why they would always appear inverted to me.

I just looked it up and other people talk about having the same problem and the answer I saw is that there are 2 different ways to create the 3D image. Most of them are like the ones I posted, but there are others that are different and you need to cross your eyes to see them. They say that if you cross your eyes to try and see the normal stereogram like the ones I posted, you will see them inverted. So you are probably crossing your eyes when trying to see them.

Yes, I cross my eyes and do that thing we were told not to do as kids or our eyes would get stuck like that.
I entered the word in a dictionary website and the first hit was squint but now that I think about it it's not what I usually think of when I hear squint. I think the 2nd hit "to be cross-eyed" (for somebody whose eyes are always like that) is closer to what I actually ment.
However Thanks for taking the time to look into this and provide a more founded explanation :D I wasn't really worried about the brain anomaly thing but it's still good to know.
But what always entertains me is how often my "layman explainations" hit the spot :D

I think some people just can't see them. If you have really put it enough effort and tried all the methods and still can't get it to work, there may be a slight problem with your eyes that does not affect your vision enough for you to notice, but prevents you from seeing these 3D images.
There may be more in depth articles about it, this is just the first google result I found.

I don't think needing glasses should stop anyone from seeing them. The problem would be if your eyes had some kind of alignment issue where they don't work correctly with eachother.

I loved these when I was a smol child, thank you for this

Bump for solved while see nothing with naked eye.
Edit: make it read reasonable, I think.

What do you mean while seeing nothing, you had to see the code somehow. Do you just mean you didn't see the 3D image? A few people managed to solved it with photo editing programs.

Photo editing program of course :)
I left the comment with the software's name.

It probably depends on how bad the astigmatism is. I have a small amount of astigmatism and don't have a problem, but I would imagine a stronger astigmatism could make it hard to distinguish the fine details to correctly align the image in each eye. If you can read normal size text on a computer monitor, I would think it's not the astigmatism.

I thought it would be fun to make a stereogram puzzle. Don't hate me if you can't do it. The giveaway is nothing special, just a copy of Chroma Squad. The giveaway ends about 3 days and 6 hours from the date this thread was created.
If you don't know what a stereogram is, it's basically a 3D picture that you can see by looking at it while unfocusing your eyes. Your eyes will go slightly out of alignment with eachother and instead align individually on different parts of the picture to see the image (at least that is how I think it works). You can adjust the size of the image by zooming with your browser, you can see it at almost any size, but it may be a little easier for your eyes at a certain size.
How I learned in the 90s and the way I like to do it is to: Bring your head fairly close to the picture and then lose focus. Try and not focus on any individual part or feature of the image, but just let it blur a little. Then slowly move your head back away from the picture while not trying to focus and it will just come into focus at a certain point. Sometimes I will need to move my head closer and farther away a few time to get it to "pop" into view.
You may want to open the pictures in a new window, they will probably be too small to see here. The first two pictures are different versions of the same SG code for the giveaway. The others are just pictures with no giveaways.
Hint: The 4th letter is q
Edit: Here's a cool stereogram music video :)
Added a second picture of the same giveaway code. The different colors and type of image may make one easier than the other for different people, especially if you are partially color blind like a lot of people are but don't know. Multiple people have reported that the second picture is easier.
Added some moving images.
