I wonder what cartoons you have watched and loved as a kid :) (Animes count I guess)

I'm a 00s kid so I mostly watched programmes on Cartoon Network, Fox Kids, Nickelodeon etc.

My favorite cartoons were:

Mad Jack the Pirate
Samurai Jack (I like the artwork so much I still watch it sometimes)
Shaman King
Spider-Man
Johnny Bravo Watch this
Courage the Cowardly Dog (so creepy)

It's a bit cringy but I watched an awful lot of Totally Spies! with my older sister (she had the remote what can I say), had a bit of a crush there on the characters lol.

(please don't call this thread autistic and pointless etc, it's just for nostalgia and discussion)

Majority of the cartoons from the golden age, like Ed Edd & Eddy, Samurai Jack, Rocko's Modern Life, also Dragon Ball (original and Z), Batman TAS, Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Pokémon, Johnny Quest, Invader Zim (which is getting a comic reboot this July btw) the list goes on.

But there are pretty decent shows today too, like Metalocalypse, Adventure Time, The Boondocks, Mike Tyson Mysteries, Rick & Morty, Archer, etc.

I'm a pretty big cartoon geek, it's my thing :)

Generator Rex was a tad bit too edgy for my taste, otherwise yes.

also I don't watch cartoon channels constantly, but what I find appealing finds it's way to me one way or another.

Too edgy :o ??? Are you serious? In what ways?? I think compared to some bunch of other cartoons, Generator Rex is not edgy :| i mean theres worse stuff out there but if you mean the graphics, the ...story, isnt that a good thing, how is it that bad? But, well, thats a shame cause the show is epic, realy, emotional, awesomely action packed, great villains and drama, realy good show, you know its good when its made by, MAN OF ACTION :).
Oooh... you dont? Finds way to you? Interesting, alright.

Golden age??? You do realize that not one of those cartoons are actually from the golden age, right? The golden age is made up of the first two decades of cartoons, after television was invented(mid 40 to mid 60s). That includes things like Tex Avery's work, Popeye, the first Loony Tunes and Merry Melodies series, WiIliam Hanna and Joseph Barbera's early work and the original Disney cartoons. And classic or not, the latter ones SUCK. Hate them all...Mickey, Donald, Goofy and all their annoying friends.

Yeah, I meant CN's golden age, my bad.

By the way, All my respect goes to Hanna & Barbera for what they did, but other than Jonny Quest I didn't like anything else they produced. Disney was okay, but WB cartoons all the way for me.

You don't like Tom and Jerry???? Blasphemy!!!! You gotta watch it. One of the best cartoons ever, alongside Animaniacs and Batman TAS. From Hanna-Barbera, I'd also recommend Two Stupid Dogs(fucking hilarious), The New Scooby-Doo show, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, Wacky Races, Dastardly and Mutley in Their Flying Machine, Swat Kats, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Addams Family, The Mask and, of course, Hong Kong Phooey... A genius cartoon series that was a hilarious satire of everything that the super-hero genre stood for. Way ahead of its time and managed to accomplish something that only The Tick managed to recreate, although that happened a but-load of years later.

Sure, Hanna-Barbera had their fair share of mishaps, like everyone else. Didn't really like many of their shorts like: Snaglepuss(REALLY GAY), Quickdraw McGraw(although it was an ok parody of the spaghetti western genre), Huckleberry Hound, Magilla Gorilla, Squidly Didly. Then there were some pretty dubious shows (like Inch Eye Private I, The Hair Bear Bunch, Pixie and Dixie) who were just knock-offs that tried to capitalize on the success of their better creations, like Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear and Scooby-Doo. But Scooby-Doo had many other pretty bad clones, such as the one with the talking car, the one with that guy, that was clear knock-off of Shaggy, who turned into a werewolf if he so much as saw a picture of a full moon(can't remember their names) and, probably the worst one of all, Josie and Pussycats... Plus, their incursion into the super-hero realm yielded less than successful results(Hong Kong Phooey is just an exception, for being such a great satire), such as: Centurions, Dyno-Mutt, Atom Ant, Birdman(nothing to do with the movie that just won the Oscar), Space Ghost and The Incredibly lame and absolutely dated, Mighty Man, who was basically Superman, only the size of an action figure :|. He also had a dog that wore a miniature dog-house over his head, who basically produced Earth-quakes when he took it off, with us the audience, never seeing his face(presumably he was REALLY ugly). Think that says it all... They also made their own version of a Batman animated series. I didn't see it, but I think it was even campier than the Adam West live-action Batman. Oh yeah, they also had a Godzilla animated show and one about Mr. T. Those pretty much sucked too.

So yeah, not all their work was perfect, as they were only human(also, many of th cartoons under their banner weren't necessarily done by them), but they sure s hell made more good stuff than just Johnny Quest.

Ofcourse I know Tom & Jerry, and I consider it good, it just never had the impact with me that WB stuff usually managed to get.
In a nutshell, what you said, not everything under their banner was really theirs, like for example Swat Kats had alot less, if any of their trademarks than Wacky Racers, which is pure H-B. The former was Hanna-Barbera in name only in my eyes.

I was mainly talking about the stuff that was clearly theirs as much as on the inside as on the outside (even a blind man can tell that Yogi Bear and Snagglepuss was drawn by the same person).

Johnny Bravo made me cry in loud laughter of joy, god i miss that huge oaf, his intelligence was a remarkable one...why dont we get a new season, cartoon of him??! other than that, i watched anything else i could on cartoon network and some other stuff that wasnt on it but on local channels. My dad loved Tom and Jerry but not me. He also loved this old russian cartoon Nu Pagaidi, in latvian, about a stylish wolf always chasing this stylish rabbit, it had and still has its charm so thats a good cartoon :). There was also one cartoon about bears living in a tree and drinking some red potion that made them bounce, gummy bears they called themselves i guess, fighting against a evil dude commanding big ugly ogres or something, i think that was nice but it was only on RTL II so i understood nothing as it was in german :o oh and Chip and Dale, that must have been a great cartoon which i couldnt watch but saw some glimpses, and there was some other cartoon, about 3 characthers and a yellow water plane...? Dunno... also Pinkie And the Brain seemed somwhat... neat? Even in german. Had a chance to see this futuristic grim dark Spider Man but they never released the next episodes after that orange bomb thing D: what a horrible forever cliffhanger i had and still have... watched a few episodes of that modern TMNT cartoon, some couple episodes in russian of this newest TMNT, neat, neat i guess. Cow and Chicken and I am Weasel had alot of my watching time, good shows :) Ed Edd & Eddy was great but the violence got way out of control, out of bondaries in the newest season... i sort of liked the Flinstones and Jetsons, good old cartoons, oh! I realy realy loved Wacky Races :) races with cheating from Mister Dasterdly or what was his name, and his dog sidekick, and that other show where those two were in a flight crew trying to capture a blue message bird with two loveable crazy wacky goofballs was also hi-LARIOUS :D man i love that villain... i Scooby Doo was okay, untill they started to repeat endlessly overwatched episodes, how exhausting.... kinda wish i was able to watch Those Biker Mice from Mars fully but instead we had those shitty Street Sharks or something, i had no interest in overpowered guys beating the bad dudes without a problem, felt sorry for them :/ there was this cartoon about a red haired, red dressed girl called... Gu or something, forgot... stranded on a island with a tribe, that was neat. Courage the Cowardly Dog was okay, it got violent, nasty as it progressed but some episodes were incredible, emotionaly atleast, like that one huge tower owned by a old dude i think... laying siege on their house. A old Action Man cartoon was awesome, i still remember that nerdy villain in a powerfull robot suit and oooh Dr. X., such an iconic name belonging to a handsome bald eyepatched moustached evil black purple dressed genius :) there was another cartoon which i wish i could watch fully now but i dont know how is it called, was about some animals that were robots in a base in jungle or something, their enemies were bugs and dinosaurs as robots too, man i wish i could watch that....i wasnt exactly a child, maybe a teenager or a mix of both but Kids Next Door, Samurai Jack, Camp Lazlo, Robot Boy, good cartoons, Ben 10, realy loved that :) the graphics, the villains, the action, the aliens, sa-sweet! Alien Force, Ultimate Alien and that newest Ben 10 cartoon, all very very good :) ! kinda wish i could see the first TMNT cartoon maybe... and i guess thats all, Looney Tunes was there but it got stale fast after everything was watched, The Turtle race episodes, the Indian assault on the wooden forth, the big chubby gold digger messed with by Bugs, great episodes :) Powerpuff Girls were pretty greatm the fresher episodes atleast but with some old jewels/episodes being superb too, oh, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, you cant live without seeing that :D god, why did they had to end it D: ......then theres The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, wicked twistedly sweet great cartoon :) god Mandy still scares me...also its somewhat tiny bit relevant show by the same creators, Evil Con Carne, Hector the bad guy with the worst luck of ending up as a brain mounted on a dumbass purple circus bear Boscow... and his general, the most abused poor dude ever and his assistant Dr. Ghastly, hot, beautifull and evil <3 (The Pie Song... just.. the best...) then theres Dexter with many seasons, pretty good toone, Maybe you should make a tread about cartoons these days, what are your favourite ones, cause i can name some, Generator Rex, Thundercats, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorperated (RIP original Shaggy's voice actor...), The Looney Tunes Show( Blow my stack for the win). Teen Titans Go, Young Justice is pretty great, untill they brought the far future second season atleast.... Johnny Test (entertaining for me, dont get the hate on him realy), not sure what to think of it but Dr. Dimension Pants is... nice :) ? I mean, you dont often get cartoons with a silly name, neat art style, a well designed fun unicorn :) and powerfull.... pants, that the protagonist wears tight o-o he is voiced by Double Dee from Ed Edd & Eddy by the way, i recognized that voice after a couple episodes, somwhat good story, unique atleast. Anyway, watch Generator Rex, seriously :) oh and Batman The Brave and the Bold, best and only Batman cartoon i ever watched, simply fantastic :O !!!! Im still sad they ended it but in such an unordinary fashion :'{ .... p.s. Oh my god, how the hell did i forgot about Megas XLR, such a cool fucking show, made me laugh and blush innerly from the action and stuff, but hell, not enough episodes, not enough were ordered, same with Symbionic Titan, man i loved these cartoons, favourite monster was from the first episode.

Transformers G1 springs to mind. It was probably my favourite cartoon as a kid, but in retrospect it was actually rather terrible. Sure, big robots are cool (I still think they are!), but the series was just not good at all, with a few episodes standing out as exceptions.

The Real Ghostbusters was another one that I loved. I decided to find out a bit more about it recently, as it seem to be a series that people around here don't remember very well, and it turned out that all the episodes I remember were made by J. Michael Straczynski. Having re-watched a few episodes, those made by him are actually still quite good, while mostly everything else is not.

Ducktales still holds up. I was taking care of a ~5 year old child, and we watched it together. It was still fun to watch. (Darkwing Duck & Talespin also holds up well).

M.A.S.K. is another one that I remember being good. Don't actually know how well it holds up.

He-Man. Here is an advice: If you have fond memories of this one, let them remain memories.

Inspector Gadget is another one that I have no idea how well it actually holds up.

Danger Mouse is a classic. Again, no idea how well it holds up.

Count Duckula is a series that would be quite fun if they aired today, if for no other reason than the symbols used in the intro.

WOW, now that's a question... I watched and liked a lot of cartoons, because when I was a kid cartoons were half my life. So this is going to be a LONG post. Still watch some now and then.

Even though I'm basically a 90s child (born in 1988), I was still into cartoons well into my teens, so there are a lot of 2000s cartoons on my list too. I too loved both Courage The Cowardly Dog(for its creepiness and extreme dark humor) and Samurai Jack(for the art-style and managing to have awesome action worthy of anime levels and be satisfyingly violent while still being PG 13). Would freaking love to see an R rated version. Speaking of dark humor and creepiness...Beetlejuice!!! Loved that one too. I'm a huge Tim Burton fan and Beetlejuice is one my favorites out of his work. So there was no way I was going to miss the spin-off cartoon. I basically enjoyed most of the original Cartoon Network cartoons: PPGS, Ed, Edd 'n Eddy, Cow and Chicken(REALLY WEIRD) and I M Weasel(also fucking weird), Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Mike, Lu and Ogg, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Evil Concarne. But my absolute favorites were Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo. Genndy Tartakovsky was a genius and a visionary(I hope I spelled his name right). If you don't know who that is, he's the guy that crated most of these cartoons(including Samurai Jack).

I also loved the old cartoons from the golden and silver eras(no, not Disney, cause Disney sucks): Popeye, the ones made by Warner Brothers(Looney Tunes and the older Tex Avery cartoons, my favorite of them being Droopy) and the Hanna-Barbera cartoons(some of them being later incorporated by Warner Brothers): Hong Kong Phoey, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, Wacky Races, Two Stupid Dogs, Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, The Jetsons, The Adams Family(not originally created by them, but still put under their banner) and especially Top Cat, were some of my favorites. I also watched most of the CLASSIC Scooby-Doo cartoon series(modern ones are SHIT), but the only two I actually liked were The New Scooby-Doo Show(the one that had Scooby water-skiing in the intro) and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, which was much more surreal and fucking hilarious. I also liked some of the newer Hanna Barbera cartoons too, like The Mask, Johnny Quest and the very underrated and totally awesome, Swat Kats. But the best Hanna-Barbera cartoon by far was the original Tom and Jerry, which is timeless and ageless and one of the best cartoons in history. Highly recommend it, if you haven't watched it yet, by some insane joke of the universe. That's not to say that all Hanna-Barbera cartoons are great. Some of them are shit, like Josie and The Pussycats, but let's not talk about those and focus on the good stuff. I also loved the cartoons that Steven Spielberg produced for Warner Brothers in the 90s: Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures and the lesser known, but just as genius(cause almost everything Spielberg does is genius), Freakzoid.

Out of anime, I was(and still am) a huge Dragon Ball fan, but I also liked Yu Yu Hakusho, Lupin III, Hokuto No Ken, Hellsing, UFO Robo Grendzier and...this one might be a little embarrassing...Sailor Moon... Fuck it..it was the 90s. A little bit dated, but it's still funny as hell(albeit a little creepy, given how those girls are portrayed and they're only 14 of age, but that's anime for you). Yes, I watched Pokemon too, but I realize now that it wasn't very good to begin with and now it's gotten super-ultra-lame, although I admit that the Advanced series was somewhat better.

I also liked some of the Fox Kids cartoons: Life with Louie, Mad Jack The Pirate, Gargoyles, Inspector Gadget, What's With Andy, The Kids from Room 402, to name a few.

And I, of course, liked super-hero cartoons. Best one by far was Batman TAS(hell, one of the best cartoons ever), but Superman TAS, The Justice League, Batman of the Future, and even Teen Titans were all fucking awesome too. Marvel cartoons weren't quite as awesome, but X-Men TAS and Spider-Man TAS (1994) stand out from the bunch.

Some other miscellaneous cartoons that I really liked: Pirates of Dark Water, Biker Mice from Mars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Connan The Adventurer, Godzilla(the one that continued that awful Matthew Broderick movie, not the cheesy one made by Hanna Barbera), Action Man, Reboot, Beast Wars and Beast Machines(liked them more than the original Transformers), Total Drama Island and Total Drama Action, South Park(still like it and watching it), Happy Tree Friends(what can i say? I'm a sick bastard), Dragonflyz, Invasion America, Men in Black, BAD - Bureau of Alien Detection, Battletech), Star Rangers, Time Squad, Flying Rhino Junior High.

I'm ashamed to say I also liked some cartoons which, when I look back on today, I realize are extremely lame and dated: He-Man(the 00s reboot was vastly better, but still not very good), Captain Planet, The Adventures of Jackie Chan(however much I may like the real Jackie Chan), Captain N, Mister T., Chuck Norris, Tabaluga, Star Child, Bird Man, Space Ghost, Dyno-Mutt(super-heroes weren't Hanna's and Barbera's strong suit). There was also a cartoon version of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, with Arthur being replaced by some time-traveling air-head football jock from the 20th century named...get this...Arthur King. Can't quite remember the exact title now. but it had some interesting steam-punk elements to it, so I liked it back then. But I don't think it holds up very well. Wasn't nearly as gay as He-Man, though.
