So yeah, my dota 2 appears to be named l4d2 in my steam library. I don't even own the game! Plus, it's now "updating" a 4.5GB update.

Did Dota really get a 4.5gb update yesterday or is it downloading me Left For Dead 2 for some weird reason? What should I do??

Maybe they are just banning all the worst player from Doto 2

A language lock would be awesome. For example you couldn't use the Cyrillic alphabet on any other but russian servers. That would help communication so much.

Instead of 'сука, крыса' you'll see 'suka, krisa'. Nothing really changes

Or most likely 'cyka' and 'kpblca'

I have same problem, but HL2 thinks he's CSS, Portal thinks he's TF2 and TF2 thinks he's L4D2

Oh, I have 2 copies of CSS in my library... How odd..?

For me everything is normal. Dota 2 was around 4GB when I started playing, but with all new hats included it should be ~8 GB nowadays. So not sure what it is.

Oh my lord..... Am I really required to download 4GB of hats to play dota again? With my internet connection, this is going to take around 7 hours. Amount of frustration is through the roof right now.

How do you manage to play online if takes 7 hrs for 4gb?!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's not the problem. The problem is Dota 2 transformed into L4D2

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Portal also transformed but into CSS or HL2ep1 depending apparently.

My Dota is by the way 8gb and if you haven't played in a long time that means downloading all the additions(games, campaigns and so on). It is why despite not playing very often by this point I allow it to download updates anyway.

I played it yesterday. My Dota folder is also a bit over 8GB and it's downloading a 4.5GB update. This is getting pretty weird.

It is downloading part of L4D2, steam games from valve are all confused with each other it seems and thus you are getting partial updates of other games. Best to pause everything until it gets fixed.

Just checked mine now, Team Fortress 2 seems to be written twice in mine one for actual TF2 and one for L4D2, I wonder if it has to do with L4D2? It just did a 7.1 gig update as well, pretty huge.

Great, having a day off and waiting 7 hours for dota to load.......

Stop the update and try to run Dota. It is working fine here and for another 360k people too. The update is not going to make it work(Portal for example it downloaded and now doesn't work), it is only going to eat your internet and make you have to recheck the game and download more later.

How do I stop the update? It's still in the download que even if I cancel it. Then I tried to launch it. It starts updating again. I tried from the dota.exe in the folder. Didn't work. Should I try to verify the game cache?

Hum... In that case nothing you can do, was hoping the glitch would be great enough that you could simply run it ignoring the 'update'. I suppose you can try changing the update options or some such but it is unlikely to work. Re-checking is probably going to hit the same 'update' problem but if you really want to play now then might as well try everything.

This is affecting all Valve games seemingly at random so I doubt it will get fixed soon but you can write to support if you want.

Are you guys using "Big Picture" mode or just the old standard? I do not appear to be having issues so far and I do not use the "Big Picture" mode. Other than that.. no idea why your steam is messing up like that.

edit
I actually forgot that you can also have your game list showing the name with artwork instead of just a list of game names.. So that could be it too I guess. ( Once again, I only use the list of game names over the one with artwork. ) .. beta is also a possibility... I do not use beta and do not have issues like you guys are mentioning.. so it could be any one of these things lol.
