Since a few days ago, my wallet balance has changed from , to . https://i.imgur.com/xP6qxUX.png

It might seem like a small problem, but in Sweden this doesn't make any mathematical sense whatsoever and it is an English thing.

Has anyone else encountered the same problem, can it be a problem with Metro for Steam?

Edit: I still have comma in my browser, must be computer related.. https://i.imgur.com/wStN5iA.png

I have Windows 10 Update 1809.

Is your steam in English? I'm not really sure if the language of steam changes anything. I got mine on dutch and it still is ,

Yes it is, however, I've had Steam in English for over five years having , and not . and it suddenly changed

Maybe they changed it for the English version. Can't think of anything else

The Swedish version also showed . and not ,.

. has always made much more sense to me than , as a decimal separator. , is for lists like 1.0, 1.5, 1.7.

In Swedish, we say 1 comma 5 and not 1 point 5 as we use the comma. Finland should use the same as we are so close to each other? Not language wise though.

Yes we do officially, I said I prefer the one that makes more sense myself. Also both are used in spoken language.

Denmark uses it this way as well.

I've learned to use both. But yeah in the start it bothered the hell out of me.
Especially when working in excel sheets.

It depends on the country. In here we use comma too and I see a comma. I guess it depends on the language.

My wallet still shows with comma - in Denmark, with English language.

I'm starting to think it has something to do with the latest Windows 10 update.. I do have the comma in the Calculator app, however.

Heh, we use , for decimals and . for thousands and English way never made much sense... but I think my steam acc always showed . there.

maybe they changed it for everyone and they didn't realize it doesn't work like that for some countries.
i'm glad they changed it for me, reading my wallet like $2,120,053.99 doesn't make sense.
$2.120.053,99 looks better <3

A bunch of numbers in sequence without any separation look better?

Permalink

Yes, never liked thousand separators, they are for people who can only count 3 numbers. And if anything space works best.

I can count more than 3 numbers, and I still get confused without thousand separators. They make it much nicer to look at a number. I mean, in what world is 123456789987654321 better to look at than 123.456.789.987.654.321? In the latter, you can quickly spot that there are 6 groups, while in the former you have to count.

And 123 456 etc still looks best.

123 456 789 987 654 321 looks like 6 different numbers, not 1 whole number, so I don't see how that looks best either. But to each his own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

123,456 looks much more like a list of numbers. 123.456 is just numbers as full sentences. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not really, because usually lists are separated by spaces (123, 456), as well as sentences (123. 456). :P

Real men would just say 123.5P and ignore unnecessary precision.

I'm not talking about decimal numbers though, 123.456 in my example is 123 thousand 456.

I just looked at my wallet and it still shows the "virgola" -> ,
not the "punto" -> .

I didn't know about Sweden, but here in Italy too we MUST use the comma!
As it seems that's in Sweden, the point makes absolutely no sense. When I see some kind of number with a point, well, I always think that I'm reading something in English =P Although I don't know about the other countries..
Anyways, my Steam wallet (always used everything in Italian by the way on Steam, if it's of some help) shows still the usual, correct comma ( , )

1.14 to me looks like some kind of Android app version upgrade xD

send you a friendrequest. we will change this together
edit since you are in a game:

The reason for this is a setting in win10 (as many said already)
To find the option it's a bit long way:

Open the Start Menu and click on Settings > Time and Language > Region and Language.
Then on the right there should be some "additional date time & regional settings" button
After that you see some "Change date, time, or number formats" under the tab "regions".
A new window opens and you click on the bottom on "additional settings"

Steam uses the settings behind "numbers" and not currency but you prob. want to change both.

You need to restart steam to see the changes.

Merry Christmas :)

Or skip the "modern" settings and go straight to Control Panel - Region - Additional settings :D

I thought they cuttet the control panel last year ^^
the more you know...

And yes, the "modern" way of hiding settings in win10 is prob. not the best the OS has to offer ^^
