You don't actually have to be able to successfully join to have an account. I had an account here many months before I could actually log in because back in those days you needed an invite and people were being super stingy with invites and I refused to pay for one. Once the invite system was removed and the site went live to the public my account was already quite old.

Usually, the case was you try to join 10 month ago but didn't have enough game value in your steam account but get rejected. I think I read that as it happen to someone in this forum.

The time you first registered on SG is not the same as the date you first picked your username sometimes. If you couldn't pass the verification requirements when you first visited the site 10 months ago, but registered recently, the date 10 months ago is what counts.
