Update: closed, as the sign-up thread is now live.

Apparently trains have become quite popular here since I created my first one 18 months ago... so let's take this train business up one level, shall we? Without further ado, let me present

Let's Train: London Underground "Mind the Gap" edition

Instead of a single train, let's create 11 trains, one for each line of the the London Underground, with a total of 355 giveaways! Yes indeed, London Underground is one of the world's biggest metro train systems :-)

Wait, what?

I would like to recreate the London Underground network of 11 lines and 270 stations as a community giveaway train network on Steamgifts. Every station (giveaway) is mapped to one of the lines, and links to the previous and next station, as well as to all other lines that stop in the same station (we will have multiple GAs for stations that share multiple lines). That way we end up with 355 GAs required for the complete London Underground network. Once we have the London Underground network setup I'll publish the Kings Cross St. Pancras station GA (6 lines going through here!) in the forum, and people can travel from there to all the underground stations...

Call for help

Unfortunately I can only make 100 GAs at a time, meaning I need help from you folks! We need 255 additional contributors who can take over 1 station each. Or fewer contributors, if some end up owning more than one station :-) However from these numbers alone it's clear I will also need help managing the event! This is why I'm looking for volunteers to help me with the logistics of the event. Volunteers will manage a train line, i.e. collect the required info from the contributors and tell them what information they have to add to their GAs. There will be a Steam group to coordinate this effort, and I'll make a few nice GAs for all volunteers and top contributors once the event is over. Let me know in the comments below if you'd like to help, or have any questions to ask first.

Timing

  1. this forum post will be up for about a week to gauge interest via the poll, and assemble a team of volunteers who will help with the logistics of the event.
  2. next post will be the GA recruitment, where contributors can sign up to own their station, create the GAs and add the links to other stations, again for about a week.
  3. finally the Steamgifts London Underground network will be live and operational for a couple weeks, to give everybody ample time to earn enough money (points) to travel the entire network and exit at any station they want (enter GAs).

GA requirements

GA should all be made private, with no region restrictions, and end at the same day in October (to be announced, do not create any GAs just yet!). Other than that I don't think we should have any rules concerning GAs. Contributors can choose what game to give away, what level to require, who to blacklist, etc. Oh, and here's a Mini Metro to get you started!

FAQ

Q: Are cheap games / bundles OK? A: Of course, all games are welcome!
Q: Can I choose my stations?" A: Yes, I'll have sign-up forms ready for the 2nd step. If somebody wanted to own an entire line that should also be possible (let me know before the 2nd week)
Q: How to get in touch with you? A: in Let's Train group chat steam://friends/joinchat/103582791439692202

TL;DR

I'm looking for volunteers to help me run this event. Read the sections above if you're interested.

Certainly in for a few GAs, or maybe more than a few. If anything, I wonder if you might end up with too many game contributors and will have to make some cuts. First-come-first-served once the signup thread is posted?
It would also be fun to provide GAs for a complete line. I'm not sure how long (or short) these lines get, but that might be fun.

Strictly first come first serve, however those who'd like to run an entire line will be able to block it in advance. Just let me know before the 2nd week. FYI the lines have an average of 35 stops, check Wikipedia or other sources to pick one you'll like, if you're interested!

Totally count me in! Can't guarantee the amount of giveaways I'll make or the quality but I'll do some :D

I'd like to chip in 5-6 giveaways of some bundle leftovers. Maybe I should wait for that "GA recruitement" then. Will it be another topic? :)

Indeed, will be another topic in about a week's time.

Super off-topic, but how many of these lines were around during WWII? It's so complex (/o_o)/

Tentative yes from me. Currently waiting on a bit of cash to come my way first and I need to see what is left before I commit to something this large. If you find someone else in the mean time, feel free to bump me aside :).

Note: If you are fine with bundles then I can contribute without issue. Just tentative since I prefer to do non-bundled games for this if possible :).

Thanks CJ, this is from the community for the community, so would expect the usual ratio of bundled vs. non-bundled games across all GAs. Nobody should spend extra money for this that they weren't planning to spend on SG gifts anyway, IMHO!

Ah screw it, just put me down for 5. I'll managed and it's not like I'm smart with my money anyways so might as well XD.

<3 Momo1991, I'll add you to the group, let's use group chat.

But it'll boil down to 1. making the private GAs, 2. submitting the GA links to a volunteer or me , and 3. update the description in the GAs with a text we'll provide (i.e. the links to the previous & next stations, etc.)

Remind me that I'm interested in creating at least 10 stations for you :D
But I'm drinking now, so as I drink more, I'll forget that I read this..

But I have quite a few slots, so I can spare some :D

I went to London for the first time in my life a little over a month ago, and I fell in love with the Underground. Count me in!

I can probably contribute 4-5 games.

I mostly rode the Bakerloo line out of Paddington Station, but also caught the Victoria and Piccadilly lines a bit as well.

Indeed! The whole thing was so impressive, not to mention clean, efficient, people were incredibly polite, and the trains were much less noisy in motion compared to the ones we have in the Bay Area.
