Pretty awesome prize and you're on the money for unplayed games with me (though I cancelled my HB a couple years ago)
Too ambitious for me though, I'm more likely to play Rust or Skyrim another 100+ hours than start anything "new" let alone complete it.
Good luck to you others!

If you like the prize and can conjure up 6 games from your backlog why not give it a shot? I can help you pick out some nice short games if you want.

Appreciate the offer, but I can't see it happening, I have kind of a mental block about starting new games, I do sometimes, but REALLY have to be in the mood. Sometimes I find a gem and play it to ridiculous degree, but mostly I play a few mins, decide it's not my favorite and move on.
Also not sure my rig will handle HWL without some upgrade, so it wouldn't be fair to take it from someone who can (and hopefully will) play it without issue

That's kind of you, hope you can participate in a future contest, they are really fun!

I don't really think I'll be able to play all 6 games this month but I am in severe need to keep my mind busy so here goes.
Thanks for the event again CJ :)
Starting with Backbone...
And I thought I was in for a treat... Never been so disappointed in a game in my life. Wth was that? It's like settling in with a tub of popcorn to watch the Maltese Falcon and finding out the movie cuts halfway through to some surrealist experimental student movie. Ugh.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I wasn't expecting much from TOEM but I have been enjoying it a lot. It's chill and rewards exploration, but it also makes exploration fun, which very few games manage to do. Usually it turns into a chore after a while and gets too grindy but not this time. I have been spending way too much time looking at everything and I am most likely going to spend another 4 hours taking pictures from every angle and chasing the remaining achievements and not regretting it at all.
Edited: yep I did spend another 4 hours in the extra content the devs threw in for free after release. The whole thing feels like the very opposite of Backbone really. They went the extra mile instead of doing a cut and run job, and you can tell they weren't doing it just for the $$$
Don't really know what to think about Emily is Away. The interface is pretty cool for what is essentially a visual novel with minimal to no impact from any "choice" made in the game. Doesn't really make for a fun or even pleasant experience though.
I ended up leaving the game open for hours because I forgot I was "playing" something.
There is no story to speak of, unless high school drama counts as a story, and not even in a way that feels organic or narratively satisfying.
In the end you get railroaded into making "decisions" that don't fit the character and other characters act very random.
There was probably a better game to be made with this concept but this ain't it.
Mind Scanners was waaay harder than I thought. Damn, I ended up losing for lack of money three times before I finally managed to finish a game on easy.
There are a lot of endings apparently and an achievement for each but I don't know if I want to torture myself to 100% it right now.
I don't know why I thought it would be a relaxing point and click kind of game with a good story. The story was good but daaaamn the gameplay was stressful! Can't imagine what the game is like on Hard!
I ended up playing Five Dates and I got second embarrassment for that dude, honestly. The game could have been fun to play but it's so badly written, and man, some of the acting is really terrible. I'm finishing the achievements if I can but this is just a mess.
And since I'm masochistic, and I have no time to really get immersed this month, I'm playing another FMV game from the same studio next xD
After 3 terrible games from Wales Interactive and I can definitely say it will be my last.

What made you think that Backbone would be "a treat"? It's not my type of game but I am interested to hear what you were excited for.
Nice job getting your first game done already, keep up the pace!

I played the prologue and I just loved the atmosphere. I am a fan of Noir detective movies and novels and the prologue gave every indication that it's what this game would be. Except not at all. And ambiance is one thing but writing is important in a point and click game and that was a major letdown.
Looking into it, I shouldn't have been surprised and it turns out the Kickstarter page made a lot of empty promises and almost nothing that's in the trailer is in the actual game.
It's a shame because the art is cool and if they had only done half of what they said they would do on the KS page, it would have been a good one.

Very interesting, thanks for the info, raw deal that the kickstarter was a ripoff.

If they had been really serious about making a good game, they could have just said "well ok KS didn't get us where we needed to be to release the game entirely so we'll package it as part 1, sell that and use the money to finish the game"
Instead they just stopped when they ran out of money "to give themselves salaries so they could afford to work only on the game", and make a crap ending and sell the game as it was... and then they make another "game" with the same characters but a prequel because ofc now they are trying not to deal with the way they left things in the first game.
Good luck getting anyone to buy the new game lol

It was quite a waste, I agree. And it's not for lack of creativity so hopefully their next one will be better planned. Maybe episodes would suit their development style better. They can fund the game as they go instead of running out of dough and just throwing in the towel.

(solved)
I am going through my games to try and find ones that have been in a Humble Monthly, but I am having trouble. Is there some kind of tool to compare the games I own with games that have been in a Humble Monthly or do I need to do it manually?
Edit: I used to use a tool years ago when I would trade games and I think it was called compare2steam, but I don't think it exists anymore. I know you can compare two Steam accounts to see what games you both own, but this tool let you enter a text list of games to see which ones were owned on a steam account. Then I could just find or create a plain text list of all the games that were in all the Humble Monthlies and use the tool to see which ones I own.
Edit 2: I have found this tool created by an SG user and this list of games. It should be easy enough to just remove the dates to have a plain text list now: https://appsolutelywonderful.com/humblechoice
And... It worked :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, that would have been a lot easier. I was originally using those 2 links just as a list of games, but I have never used barter.vg and didn't know I could sign in to have it automatically check what I owned. I thought it was just charts with info for us to reference.

Some good games there. :) I really enjoyed The Turing Test and Little Misfortune. I liked Last Day of June also, but it had a horrible bug where saving didn't work, which ultimately meant I had to play the entire game in a single sitting. Orwell has been in my backlog for a long time, but looks good. Enjoy!

I wonder what the reviews are going to be.
I tend to avoid games that are popular but have not released yet for this reason. Last thing I want is to waste everyone's time (and my money) on a shitty prize. The feedback from the early release peeps were positive, so I was comfortable picking this one.

You were right to pick another game. The start time mirrors that of the bundle release, so anything started before that is not allowed.

I have never joined one of these before because I feel like the pressure/stress of having to complete games within a certain time frame makes gaming less enjoyable. Also, 6 games in a month is a lot for me because I usually play around 40-80 hours in a month and I don't like to rush through games. Because of that, I will try to find some shorter games to play for this event since I would love a chance at winning a copy of Hogwarts Legacy :)

Copy pasta of copy pasta of copy pasta.
Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: Hogwarts Legacy
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.
Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over seven years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.
I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?
No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.
Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.
If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?
No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.
Why six games?
The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.
How long are you going to do this?
Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.
This event "ends" on March 7th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to leave the window open for the owl..
