Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: Hogwarts Legacy

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over seven years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?

No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.

Can I play a MP only game?

No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.

If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?

No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on March 7th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to leave the window open for the owl..

I'm sorry but how the hell did you defeat the Death Spirit and reached lvl 110 in 7.3 hours in Lost Castle? You went from lvl 80 to lvl 110 in 10 minutes, lol. (And according to Steam you only played it for 4 hours in the last 2 weeks.)

I used points on the higher-level upgrades, taking more points but adding only one level at a time. Then after I got the highest level upgrades, I used excess points on the lower upgrades (there were like four categories of upgrades that could be upgraded 10 times while the higher upgrades could only be upgraded once). After defeating the final boss, I farmed up soul points to purchase the lower grades, which added several levels but didn't take as many points, though it got more expensive the higher it went. I ran through the game over four times, not including the deaths and I did it quickly (40 mins for the first successful run, 20-30 for the following runs), skipping dialogue/cutscenes and rushing through. It's basically a dungeon crawler, nice for a while but it gets repetitive tho, so at some point, I stopped paying attention and just gathered points until I had enough to get through. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So you're saying you beat the (secret) boss (under level 80) and farmed 110 levels in 4 hours. (And the last 30 levels only took 10 minutes.) And all this without cheating, receiving save files or using SAM. Incredible.

I played through it, it's not my favorite genre of game but it's pretty basic, and using a controller makes it a lot easier. Levels don't correspond to experience, just specific upgrades unlocked by souls, which you get by defeating monsters (which was easy because the golden armor guy gave me a challenge where I get a free legendary weapon but I couldn't change it for a different one and some other condition that didn't actually make it harder). You fight through a repetitive room of enemies, open a chest, and go to the next one until you hit a boss (dodge, strike, eat apples/bananas, don't trip over banana peels lol, repeat) and go to the next dungeon/forest/tower. I certainly didn't use nightmare mode but I promise I played it. I know a lot of people like this kind of game but I've played a lot of them and they're just kind of repetitive at this point, it's a little luck based but overall it's just a dungeon crawler, though the monster designs were pretty cool.

I don't know a lot about cheating using save files but wouldn't that unlock the achievements all at once? If needed by Cjcomplex, I can provide additional screenshots from my playthrough or put in a different game but since I work full-time, I'm just trying to get through games as quickly as I can before the event ends lol and it helps get through my backlog. If it was more story-rich or was more to my taste, I wouldn't have rushed through it but I'm running out of HB choice games that I own, lol.

You can only reach the final stage and fight Death Spirit in Nightmare mode.

Yes, but at around lvl100 you get about enough souls after a full run to unlock MAYBE 2-3 skills / levels. Not something you can do under 10 minutes.

I can tell you really love this game, you put in waaaay more time than I put into it and that's awesome, I think you got all the achievements too which is just amazing. I must have entered nightmare mode when skipping through that conversation with the mage (the one unlocked after the first playthrough?) but I didn't do it intentionally and I don't remember it well because I wasn't paying attention. Honestly, I just played it to get credit for this event, I don't care enough to go back and forth about it over and over. I completed at least 4 runs which more than covers the event, unless the event person wants to overrule it, then I'll just do another game (I have 3-4 games I can use as a backup). It sucks to lose that time when I don't have a lot to begin with but it's not a big deal and I'm not that invested in it ¯(ツ)

I think completing it even only once would be fair. And I'm not saying you haven't played it through. All I'm saying is you were using cheats and/or modifying files / saves.

One could argue you beat the final boss so fast by having such talent and/or being carried by 3 friends with 3000 hours between them. But there is no way you reached level 110 so fast. And the last 30 levels in under 10 minutes. That's impossible. And you would know this if you have played the game normally.

And for the record I've never implied you should play something else or that this shouldn't count towards the 6 games. Obviously if you cheated here you can cheat in other games too so whatever. ¯(ツ)/¯

Anyway, reasoning with you is futile. Have a nice one. ^^

I have a hard time stopping to play monster train, always the same with those card games
maybe I will even reach 100% before the end

"Hylobates silensis"
"Propithecus molli"

Dunno what Cj thinks about it though

So question when would be "today"? The topic was created on the 9th my time but as you are Canadian it was still the 8th for you.

I started Peaky Blinders about 8 hours before the topic was created but over 24 hours after the Choice was released. Would it count?

Peaky Blinders: Mastermind March 2021 Humble Choice Finished

If you started playing the game after the Choice was released you are fine. I try to post these threads on the day of, but that is not always possible. Last couple of weeks have sucked ;-;

The default start time for these events match the start time of the new Choice bundle.

Do we need to complete the games before the end of the month or do we have until the 7th or 8th which is a month from when the thread was opened? I only need to complete one more game, which I should be able to do before the end of the month, but I was just curious how the timing of these events works.

Thanks. I'm not sure how I missed it. I actually looked back through the OP before posting the comment and I was confused why it wasn't included because it's an important detail that people would need to know. Maybe I just thought that paragraph was included in the answer to "How long are you going to do this?" and I skipped over it.

I beat 2 more HB monthly games this month (Super Magbot, Calico) but unfortunately, I started playing them a few days before this month's Choice was released.
I also put in over 8 hours in Basingstoke, but the game has proven too difficult for me and I'm ready to move on, for now...

Edit: Decided to withdraw my attempt. Did not like the pace I was going, while I enjoyed Lara Croft GO and I will be going back to 100% it. However, I was not enjoying Figment, just like their other game; Back to Bed due to controls, unable to skip cut-scenes and loading different biome timings. Will still be going through the game to try to 100% it but at a very slow pace >_<

I can't believe I missed a chance at Hogwarts Legacy! Though I don't think I had games I could have beaten, haha.
I've been playing it on Xbox from my Library and love it, though I also guess I'm likely to buy it for Xbox so I don't have to start over, just wish it would go on sale for at least a little. XP

Anyways, I'll probably have to join again soon since I got 3 more months for $7 each, but it's late for this month and not interested in RE, but I have to admit you're crazy for still doing this. XD
