It's a pet peeve of mine. I just like specificity, especially when it comes to multi-titled franchises. But you're right, I was under the mistaken assumption that just "Hitman" could also refer to the first game but I see that one has a suffix :)

Interesting game concept. I didn't know this existed -- I feel like the detailed world would be better served actually in something like American Truck Simulator, where folks could just kind of explore more leisurely and have more realistic goals. It might be neat to see something in the future like an open-source or licensable "universal game map asset" or something, in which games could share a highly-detailed realistic map yet develop different games around it... that way a studio would not have to invest such huge resources into "recreating the world" every single time, and more resources could go into actual gameplay, presentation, storylines, etc.

Ubisoft make really nice game worlds, but there are usually nice to look at but very little to do in them even with friends. With the map that size I'm surprised there were so few race tracks and game modes. The interesting stuff is in the DLC, but by the time it gets in the game nobody is playing. A shame realyl.
As for the "universal game map asset" I don't think it wold work. Personalty I feel there is something special when you visit and explore a game world for the first time. And if the worlds are shared that feeling would be lost.
