Its not that only a small amount of girls play games, its that everytime a girl actually says she's a girl on an online community, the only thing she gets as a response is a kitchen joke or some asshole who stalks her.

One more girl gamer dont know why girls are not interested in gaming, but I am, thats the only thing that matters for me xD

Because people have dumb ass social beliefs and opinions, I know alot of female gamers and They are no different to a guy gamer, Well.. Physically they are but meh, It's the internet, What does that matter?

Honestly, I guess it depends on the people you associate with. About 90% of the girls I've known growing up, going through school, meeting at work, etc. have been gamers. Now if you definite gamer as only hardcore gaming and multiplayer games, then I've only known a couple. But to me as long as she enjoys playing video games of any kind, it counts. Whether it's WoW, Final Fantasy, fighting games, Mario Party, whatever. And I've always been closer friends to females than males, but the percentages have basically been the same when it comes to gamers.

Females belong in the kitchen, not the internet.

Having few girls on steamgifts does not mean they don't play as much. It just means there are few girls on SG. Which is not the same.
Girls have boys that want to get in their pants, and these give them free stuff (including games) so they don't need to enter these giveaways with a low chance of winning.
Just post a pic with a piece of paper of some dudes TF2 name and she'll get something for it.

Actually I think that while men still outnumber women the percentage isn't as small as everyone thinks it is. From the gamers I know i'd say about 1 in 5 or 6 are female and I live with 2 women who are also on steam gifts.

As for why there are less, well one reason is some male gamers attitude towards women which gives the rest of us a bad reputation as a whole, MidnightRave's comment being a prime example. While I understand its mostly meant as a joke often enough, its done to the degree where it isn't funny any more and just insulting and so a lot of women are turned off gaming by the community itself.

There are quite a few girls who play games. It's just a shame the down to earth ones are usually mobbed by per-pubescent retards - who are then forced to play male characters or just not talk at all - and/or they are overshadowed by the loud & vocal attention-whoring gamer chicks. There seems to be quite a few of those attention whoring kinds. From my experience anyway.

If you treat them like any other human being, you'll find they'll actually talk and get comfortable.

I just don't like to shout "I'm a girl!" everywhere for a lot of reasons, most of which are already posted here. Biggest ones being harrassment and people hitting on me. And jokes. I'm not offended, but it gets old fast once you've heard the same thing 20+ times in the same day. Plus... does gender matter? I just want to game and talk with other gamers.

Because most girls don't act on the 'girl gamer' cliche and just keep quiet and blend in with the guys. We just want to play, not make a scene.

Because there is much more no-lives among men, than women.
