I like rap, maybe cus I'm black, or maybe because my parents always played it around me but either way I like it.

that same argument can be applied in case of: you are racist if you dont like norwegian black metal.

Rap is for people who can't sing or write good melodies. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
... Unless it's sarcastic.

I like talent. I like older rap music from the 90's. New rap is just the same generic beat and nonsensical lyrics. The same with rock music. New rock music is the same riff different song and lyrics that make no sense. I hate when people talk about nonsense why would i want to listen to music when they do it?

I like only a few songs. I really don't like rap but i can't say "rap is *****".

Rap music of the 80s and early-to-mid-90s was fun to listen to, but most of the rap of the past decade is redundant, monotonous and just downright unlistenable.
Don't get me wrong, though - I also hate Justin Bieber. Frankly we need some better music back in the mainstream - the good stuff such as Andrew W.K., Lindsey Stirling and The Protomen. Better yet, why not revive the progressive rock genre? People complain about how there's no talent and effort put into mainstream music anymore, and the prog genre has more than enough talent and effort put into its music...

i hate when people say "rap" and not "hip-hop" rap is just like saying "sing" or "guitar" whereas "hip-hop" is like saying "dubstep" or "ambient" etc.
with that said
hip-hop is trendy because it's great party music for the masses, this can be said with much of EDM, trap, and general pop music, nearly every genre gets its bastardization for the masses, for hip-hop, you got great artists like Aesop Rock and EL-P and yet corporation cash whores grab onto people like Kanye West and all that and gives the genre commercial value, you got trendy post-hardcore bands like Asking Alexandria and then you have post-hardcore bands like Receiving End Of Sirens, whatever "white" or "black" genres you have, they're only trendy due to their intent, people like party music, and such electronica with pop melodies and rappers with their simple hooks and basic but flashy production will obviously be what the parties, radios, and music videos will give!

Rap is garbage as a genre. That doesn't mean you can't find anything good in it or that it should be thrown out as a whole, but you're kidding yourself if you think any real percentage of rap is good.

Who knows, maybe you can jam out to some pop music as well. I hear Kesha is in. She probably even sang with Lil Wayne, so it's a best of both worlds for you if she did.

What? Do you think you sound smart or something? Yeah those two are terrible, but how does that even relate? Your statement is nonsense, even if 1% of rap was good that would still count as a real percentage, learn to type guy.
Also plenty of Rap/Hiphop is great, how about you actually research it a bit and turn off the radio...Hell just like Bennyny said, it can be said about genre, the popular shit like Lil Wayne is garbage, go listen to some real Rap.
I am sorry, your opinion is your opinion, it's not your fault you are uninformed and can't form one based on actual information. I don't like certain music genres, some just don't sound great to me, but I am not gonna bash them because of it.

I did not like it at first because of how society and the media poorly presented it to me, but I slowly fell into the genre because of the likes of Linkin Park. Then, I heard Gangsta's Paradise from Coolio... which I have only given a chance because of Weird Al. After Coolio's tune, I decided to see if any other raps out there might be a bit deeper than their penis size and other egotistical gangster nonsense. Turns out there is. If you're open minded like me, you would find the value of rap beyond what the posers rap about. Rap isn't about being the biggest thug or having bling, it is simply about life.... good rap anyways. Of course, giving rap a chance with an open mind wont mean you will magically like it, each of their own.

While I'm not exactly the biggest rap fan in the world, popping in and out of this thread over the course the day I was getting a little frustrated with some of the... well, less considered viewpoints being expressed. I needn't have - giving another listen to Cannibal Ox's Pigeon tonight caused a rather large and slightly smug smile to form across my face as I relaxed safe in the knowledge that there isn't a single person on this forum who can write verses like that.

My sister told me this once. I called her a nagger, and she told my mom on me.
I'm 34. She's 32.
She's such a nag!

I think that's rather silly to be honest. A lot of people who dislike rap just dislike it because of how it sounds and don't care about what color the artist's skin is. I just find the overall tone of rap songs to be too harsh for my tastes.

I came across this point of a comment on youtube.com. I did not think of it at first and simply thought the person was way off. Now I think about it again. I wonder how many people are following rap trend because they do think it is racist to not like rap? I have a feeling this kind of thinking might be little more common but I hope I am wrong. So, I wonder how many people are doing/following things because they think it would be racist (or input other word) to not do so.
Lol, maybe a more bizarre example could be being part of an interracial relationship because it would be racist to not date outside your ethnicity. This is just an example. No doubt there's at least few out there that actually do this. I am pretty sure there is a word for what I am trying to say. What do you people think?
