So I was thinking of organizing my library. It's getting messy. I have to hunt for some of my games. Over 300 games now. I was just curious how you keep your library tidy? So I can get some ideas to sort out my games.

-Favorites (contains the most interisting/expensive games i got in the library, also the ones i play most over and over even if completed, 2nd largest tab i have)

-Completed (finished games)

-Incomplete (games i stopped playing after playing more than once)

-Shit (games not worth my time)

-Meh/Ignore (games i know about and not worth trying or not interested, basically certain bundle games)

-Broken (games that stopped working all of a sudden)

-F2P (free to play games)

-Race (i like racing games, so i separated everything related to race into this tab)

-Games (this is my largest tab, alot of unplayed indie games or games of the likes still to try out)

Main genre - Sub genre. Takes me right to what kind of games I feel like playing. Like:

  • Shooter - First Person
  • Shooter - Tactical
  • Shooter - Third Person
  • Strategy - Grand
  • Strategy - Real-Time
  • Strategy - Simulation

Needs some thinking though, but the main genre is usually easy to set, and then can just throw games into the main genre category and specify the sub genres later. There is also a category for things to play next for the first time and non-Steam games. Ones to avoid like DRM - type, account setups that I haven't bothered to do, things that don't work, or things that require install some annoying 3rd party software.

"I have to hunt for some of my games." For that, I use search.

Another question: how do you unhide hidden games?

In the library on the right side of the search, press the "Games"/"Installed" and select "Hidden"

I just have Completed (for games with 100% achievements or just finished if they don't have chievos), Useless (demos, betas and the strange MAC duplicates of Civ 4 that I got after they released MAC support lol) and everything else.

1|Current

2|Queue

3|Replay & Pause

4|Completed & Aborted

5|Test/Beta/Demo

Every game I haven't played yet is on 2|. When I start it I move it to 1| from there it should only be moved to 3| or 4|. From time to time I check 3| if I really want to replay or continue the game -> 1|. Games at 4| should stay at 4| except one friend wants to play one of these games with me -> 1|

My method is similar, but less complex.

Instead of current and queue I just add them to favorites, much faster :)
For demos and junk I just tick the HIDE FROM LIBRARY box when adding t category

I don't use categories since using the search bar is ALOT faster.

How can any categorisation help more than a search bar if you have 500+ or 1k+ games?

what I mean is, what kind of info do these categories provide about the games? I can see a point in genres or similar, but can't imagine origin to be descriptive in a helpful manner

how you ever find a game than?

I only play games I have installed and I constantly have Installed tab opened. If I want to install another game, I use Steam's integrated search function. It's not that hard, really.

Games I am playing, games I have beat, games that I've beat the main story of but still have DLC to do (i.e. Knife of Dunwall in Dishonored), games that cannot be beaten, games that are multiplayer only, games that are still early access, everything else

I'm sorting them by genre. Like FPS, TPS, Strategy, platformer etc.
Btw I have a category for games I won't ever touch again.
