The Intel Graphics will make it so that you will need to run Borderlands at almost the lowest settings.

I was suspecting that, I hate this computer soo much and best buy totally scammed me with it.

Best buy is the worst. Intel Graphics aren't bad. In Borderlands you can run everything at the max settings except dynamic shadows.

well ya, I knew nothing about computers then, and all i asked for was a computer that can run call of duty good, and the man was like oh this computer is perfect for that! (I didnt play cod on this computer, but I thought it would be a good example of a gamer type game) anyways, it took me 1 week to get tf2 downloaded and tf2 ran like 20 fps and when I wanted to return it they said "well we have a 1 wk return policy sorry pal". the best buy guy must have thought I was talking about CoD 1

Hmm, I got a laptop like that, almost the same specs, Intel Graphics HD 3000, ran TF2 just fine. Also ran Skyrim with small lag on occasion. Albeit at lowest settings, but still. It also ran Borderlands, Diablo III, Starcraft 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Nuclear Dawn, Call of Duty Black Ops perfectly fine. Along with another 200 games or so.
Do you know which exact model of integrated Intel Graphics you got? Because anything before Intel Graphics HD 3000 wasn't working decently well enough for most games.

And also CoD isn't really that demanding in respects to graphics. You may be able to pull off CoD 4 on medium, though I might not be doing that card any justice.

I can run MW3 maxed out with a GTS 450 and a AMD Sempron @1.8GHz (uni-core) at around 40fps on intense battles (Not joking, and showing how CoD is a bad benchmark), you should use Metro 2033, Crysis 1, Mafia II, The Witcher 2 (with its 64x AA) these are the main ones you should get a benchmark from (if it gets +25fps on Metro 2033 on ultra, it will run anything). And if you are able to return it and spend $1.5k I'd recommend the ASUS G75, best gaming laptop so far compared to the others with its specs.

Take it as a lesson; buying pre-built PCs from stores are often a scam and it is much more convenient to purchase selected parts and get someone to put it together for you so you get a cheap computer that will last long. That's what I did at least. I've spent like $500 and got an above average rig that runs pretty much everything smoothly.

Laptops suck at gaming, unless you have an itel HD 3000 you will get the same fps in TF2 as L4D. My PC is 4 years old and I got it from best buy but its a Dell XPS desktop and can run L4D AND TF2 at around 60 fps. If you want a gaming pc you need a dedicated graphics card. I have an 8800 gt in my pc and I play L4D and TF2 at 1920x1200 rssolution. As of now best buy has no gaming pc worth buying. They only cater to console gamers now.

I wouldnt worry the intel hd3000 can handle a lot more than people think i can guarantee you will run borderlands, nuclear dawn, left for dead at around low-medium perhaps higher depending on resoloution

The I5 460M is based on the Nehalem core, it uses the original Intel HD Graphics core. Nowhere close to the HD3000. The HD3000 is at least adequate to run a fair number of games at lowest quality settings at 1366x768.
On that card he's looking at 800x600 on very low details, and even then his selection will be limited to games a couple years old.

Intel HD Graphics, I know a friend who also has this VGA on his Core i3 laptop. It can barely run L4D2 at 30 FPS at low settings and resolution, CS:GO at 20 FPS in 800x600. I guess Valve Source games will runs pretty fine at low-med settings.
Myself I own a laptop with Intel GMA 4500MHD (one level down from your VGA) to play TF2. But with some config file I can make my FPS stable to 40 FPS in high res.

ePSXe with FFIX, Baldur's Gate II, 2 litres of Nestea... and be happy

You can run any type of game. FPS, RTS, Tactical shooter, RPG, you name it.

Good place to build a computer umm i doubt you will get above 40, you might be able to play but i would try to build a computer if you can. Don't buy an already complete one, they are rip offs; build one. Though make sure you know whether are not parts are compatible.

I have a lame computer and here's the specs (got it from "can you run it" online app):
http://imageshack.us/f/3/specshx.png/
would this run games with 'smooth' fps (above 40 even on low settings) like borderlands, left4dead, nuclear dawn...?
If you need more information say so.
