Is the Call of the Wild your true calling?
Their charity payouts were bugged when I was about to make a purchase, as it was mere pennies!
I had to customize my amount to charity to un-screw it up...

Have wanted the base game for a while so very happy with Tier 1. Can anyone comment on how important the DLC is to the experience?
Comment has been collapsed.
The maps add alot of variety. Unless you are a real enthusiast, not sure the 'arsenal' adds much. The ATV is good to get around faster, but the controls are not ideal.

So even if I take the "unnecessary" dlc out of the equation it's still good deal for the maps and the ATV. Thank you for replying :)

Adding to what Luckz said, the tripod and treestand DLC in T3, while not necessarily a must-buy, makes hunting a bit easier. When using a tripod or a treestand, it decreases your visibility so animals should get closer to you before fleeing. Also, using those will lower the hunting pressure when downing animals. When you kill an animal, a gray-ish spot will appear on your map, that's hunting pressure. The more animals you kill in the same zone, the brighter the color becomes. It'll get purple and eventually, bright pink. When it's pink, you won't find any more animals in that zone. Hunting pressure disappear over time tho, but it takes a while. So if you get the base game or T2, maybe consider adding that DLC to your wishlist and grab it when it's on sale. Oh and... tripods/treestands also give you a better view of your surrounding, which is quite nice when you are in an area with lots of small trees and bushes, it helps you see animals coming from far away.
Going for T1 is fine. One dollar for theHunter: Call of the Wild is a steal in my book. As long as you don't mind slow-paced games. No, seriously, it's sloooooow-paced. You will track poop trails. Is it fresh or old? You really have to take your time. Some gaming sessions, you might not even kill anything. Anyway... The base game gives you two maps and I think it's enough to give you a taste of the game. Now, some DLCs are somewhat mandatory... I wouldn't consider the ATV one a must-buy, buuuut it is useful if you want to unlock all the outposts quickly. That's what I do when I get a new map, because outposts enable fast travel and some quest will require you to walk a while before you get to where you're supposed to be. Fast-travelling really helps in those cases. Now, the tents and ground blinds is a must-buy in my opinion. For the tents. Having a tent in your inventory means you have a portable outpost and fast travel point. Like the ATV DLC, it should have come with the base game but... Expansive Worlds like to make things expensive, it seems.
Aaaaand if you only get T1, you should maybe also consider wishlisting the Weapon Pack 1 (from T2) and buy it when it's on sale. For me, it's a must-buy because it gives you a crossbow (+ a scope), which is in my opinion, easier to use than a bow. Being a silent weapon, like bows, it will lower the hunting pressure.

Thanks a lot for the in depth explanations. Very helpful! I'm leaning towards T3 anyway, since there seems to be some useful stuff in both tiers. Also, just seems like a great deal overall. Especially getting all of the extra maps at that price.
Since you seem to be an expert, I wonder if I can bother you with a couple more questions :) Is there any argument for playing the base game first without any of the DLC installed? I read a comment on the steam forums that if you install all the DLC as a new player it can ruin some of the progression. I think they were specifically referring to weapons though. Are the weapons included in the DLC packs unlockable through gameplay?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, $15 UDS for the base game and all the DLCs is an amazing deal, it doesn't get any cheaper than that. I don't have every DLC myself (some, I don't intend to grab ever) and I certainly have paid more than the price of the full bundle.
I'm definitely not an expert, but you can ask me anything you want and I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge. ^_^ Eh, in a sense, I suppose it does kinda ruin the progression, since some of the DLC weapons might be better than what you are allowed to use when starting the game. I mean... as I've said, the crossbow from the Weapon Pack 1 is definitely easier to use than a bow. Plus, it has a scope. With bows, you have to grind to unlock better sights (3-pin, 5-pin)... I was not very good with bows and the crossbow felt like a godsend to me. Well, I wouldn't go as far as saying it ruins the progression, maybe it disrupts it a little bit? You will still have to grind to get access to, say, better scopes for your firearms. Also, there's nothing stopping people who get this bundle to install only the base game and experience a very vanilla version of theHunter. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that people who make progression-ruining comments might be the kind of hardcore gamers who like to tell how other people should play their games and look down on anyone not playing on extreme difficulty.
About your last question... if by that you meant to ask if you can get DLC weapons just by playing the game without purchasing the DLCs, the answer is no. And when you install a weapon pack, you get access to those weapons immediately. I just don't remember if you still have to purchase them or if you can add them to your inventory for free... You'll have to find that out yourself. ;)

Thank you for your answers! Certainly know what you mean about some gamers. I think people should play games however they like. If it means they're having more fun, that's all that matters. I only really picked up on the progression comments because I do enjoy feeling like I'm getting better at a game the longer I play it. Also unlocking new items or abilities is a fun part of that.
I've opted to install the base game by itself to start with to get a feel for the basics before I start installing the dlc. I guess I'll naturally feel inclined to get new weapons or a new maps while I play. Downloading the game now. Excited to give it a go :)
Thanks again for the help!

If you have a friend owning any of the maps you can play them if he is hosting the game , same with ATVs
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't and it's probably not the sort of game my friends would be into, but I'll keep that in mind, thanks :)
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah this is not a game for everyone since it takes alot of patience to play it , you can also play maps with randoms hosting it but that can be hit or miss depending on how they play or if just trolling around so i prefer playing either with friends or solo but playing with friends can make it better if talking in a voice chat while waiting for things to happen making it less slow but can be more relaxing playing solo
Comment has been collapsed.
Have read about the game being slow and the need for patience. I'm OK with that tbh. I also enjoy games like Euro Truck simulator, which I guess is comparable (even it its a completely different genre). And I'll probably end up playing solo mainly, but I might convince a couple of friends to at least get tier one and give it a try :)
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah i agree and i also like playing more chill games like this and Euro truck sim and Car Mechanic sim 21 but i also play FPS and RPG games but its nice to play more relaxing some times then feel like it

Yeah, I'm the same. Nice to mix it up sometimes :)

Good to know. Also nice to have some company on long hunts I guess :)

Ok - so IRL I do not and will never want to hunt.
Philosophically, I prefer people shoot pixels than real critters, so this game is not really any different than a Far Cry or other franchise where hunting is included in the overall gameplay.
The maps are quite nice and I do enjoy the game as that. I dont own all the DLC, but the ones I have are all I am interested in. [Have] was my vote this time around.

I'll take the base game for a buck(ha). Not sure if I need the DLC.

Eh... it took me a while to like the game. More than two hours. It's definitely not for everyone, you need a lot of patience aaaaand... there are bugs. Losing tracks of an animal because too many different tracks are overlapping is shitty. Or sometimes the tracks/blood trails just stop. It can be infuriating, yeah.
However, the more I played, the more I liked it. Unlocking perks make things easier. I also find wandering on maps quite peaceful, with all the nature sounds. It's been a while since I played, but... trying to get good screenshots of animals, preferably up close and personal, is a game in itself. It can be difficult. I got trampled to death a few times to get "noice" screenshots of cape buffalo on the Vurhonga Savanna map. (while having Toto's song Africa playing on loop in my head) :3

Damn. That's a good bundle for the price!
I already have quite a few DLCs and the ones that I'm still missing and want are in T3 so not worth it for me. I'll just eventually pick them up during Steam sales.
For anyone wondering if the gear-related DLCs really add to the game, you can read my two cents on those I own over here.

I suppose $1 for the game is decent, but I'm not paying $14 more just for (most of?) the DLC.
fwiw, this style of "bundle" at least seems to be keeping the BTA price from skyrocketing.
Comment has been collapsed.
It is a hunting simulator and its important to understand it, you are going to be crouching and slow walking to hunt, be aware of the wind direction, the grass, the lakes, etcetera, but for me it is a relaxing simulator of enjoying nature, I was hunted by a bear while trying to hunt a duck, I saw a hundred buffalo in a stampede and that sound was amazing. bow hunting is great. I can't go hunting in the wild (RL) and this is the closest thing to that. I have more than 120 hours of gameplay with a friend, sometimes as an observer sniper + shooter it is a great experience.
The base game has a lot to do, but the bundle with all the dlcs is a "must have". (it might be a lot at first, but you will use it all if you enjoy the experience)
The price is so good that I bought the entire bundle to keep the latest DLC and give the rest awayto a friend. 2 birds with one stone.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think this is the first bundle I've seen the BTA go down from it's starting point. (7.83 when I checked from it's 8.00 start)
Comment has been collapsed.
It's without a doubt a very popular game and it costs just about 33% of the best price the complete collection did cost on Steam. At least in âŹ.
If people aren't interested, fair enough. But this whining about IGN or "can't get any worse" is ridiculous. It's a fantastic deal for anyone interested.

I'm kinda annoyed that these are marketed as bundles and not just thrown as some edition in the store where they really would belong.
Sure, packet up something with bunch of DLC call it Humble Edition or something and drop in store. Don't make it a bundle which used to mean something as a concept on HB...
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, contrary to their store bundles support charity. And it wouldn't really make your experience any better if they offered no bundle instead of this one. ;)
I get that people want some "real stuff" but that doesn't justify trashtalking this offer. It's a good one.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, it's a good bundle! Not a bad price for getting a complete game that is in DLC hell. I got T3 even though I haven't played the base game yet, I'm kind of gambling on whether or not I will like it because if I do, getting all those DLC now will pay off.
On the other hand, it's the first bundle I got since HB's interface change. My god, it is nasty. First I have to make sure that I'm not overpaying and then I have to look below the order button, and click another button so I can give as much to charity as I can. I'll have to think about whether or not I can support a service this hostile to customers.

From discussion boards, if you like the game it's best to just buy the full pack at initial discount because of the way dlc is priced. I just started playing it has slow pace and requires alot of patience as result - not sure if I have it or not - although I'm definitely still learning. Right now the animals are mostly smarter than me, lol. I'm sure I paid quite a bit more for the full pack several months back, and they've since added another map to the complete pack - so in my view this is a super deal if people are interested in the gameplay.

I think what is frustrating at the start (for me at least) is trying to both be stealthy while at the same time having to travel long distance. The two things don't mix. After a while I decided I'm either hunting or doing a mission. I'd see so many tracks that I'm always tempted to start hunting and worry about moving slowly, and hiding scent; but then I'd never get the mission done and end up moving away from the location of mission objective. Instead, if on mission I decided it's ok just to run to get to where I'm going for a mission and not worry about anything I encounter in between. LOL. At the start, at least, it seems there's quite a bit of non-hunting objectives. Probably changes after I check those items off.

wow first i get sick ( hiccups which i have always suffered from badly) then my fav show (have i got news for you) got cancelled and now the most uninteresting bundle of all time - today can't get any worse
Comment has been collapsed.
I would have gotten tier 2 if I didn't owns so much of it already.
A little late to see the bundle so the price has risen for tier 3, but it still cheaper than what one would find in the store during sales...
Though I'm mostly interested in map DLC, so I will be skipping this.
