There isn't hidden giveaway.
Did get friend invite and decided to accept and ask if he something to talk.
Picture of chat I would have preferred it was somebody wanting to trade to that.
How of often has that kind thing to happened to you?

Wow, most people try to ease into asking for free games, this guy just straight up said "GIB!"
Oh, and you may wanna censor his name. Would probably be considered "calling out."

He's not calling them out. No name was mentioned, and he blanked out the name in the screen-capped chat.

At the moment of chronicdiscord's posting, the link in the original post was to an image that showed the beggar's username.

Nope, because I don't accept random invites. If I haven't won a giveaway and the person isn't in a group that I'm in that isn't an official group then I'm going to ignore it unless they leave a comment saying why they'd like to add me. Saves me a ton of hassle.

I have the same policy. If I don't know who you are and/or what you want, I'll ignore the friend request.

I wonder what their success rate is? They wouldn't keep doing it if it didn't work every once in a while.

Wow, that was somewhat obnoxious. Doesn't happen to me at all though, but then I don't generally accept random adds and usually click ignore.

Just once so far. Ever since then I don't accept anyone who doesn't own any games.

I got a few. It happens when you are often in giveaway groups or on Steamgifts forums/chat.

Whenever you give away s bunch of keys, someone asks if you have some spare keys. I did it once, and someone was like "Got any spare keys" afterwards, and I was like "So I gave away all of my keys, as I said in the thread, and now you beg for keys?"

Once during my first giveaway. The guy spoke (or at least typed) some pretty broken English and outright asked that I cancel the giveaway to give the game to him. I told him no, obviously, he then unfriended me almost immediately afterwards. No one else has begged to me since.

Not too often but it does happen to me. Recently had a guy beg me, so I asked his age. He said 13. Then he asked why I wouldn't give him anything. I told him that unlike him, I have rent, bills, food and travel expenses to pay for and can barely cover those. Not only do I not have the money to give you anything, I don't WANT to give you anything.

So he comes back two days later to try again. Idiot.

Way to big explanation for a random beggar.

I had someone asking for money when the big winter sale was on. He was already on my friend's list and didn't add me just to ask though. That said, we weren't exactly close friends or anything, if he was I might've given it to him! :p We'd chatted briefly a couple of times, that was it.

I've ignored a few friend requests lately when I haven't been able to work out why the person was adding me, trying to avoid this kind of thing (or phishing attempts). I'm not a trader as such so it's usually quite apparent why somebody may be sending a request. For the traders out there who may have people adding them all the time to make deals I guess it would be much more difficult.

In my experience it barely happens if you're not a part of shit quality groups, especially trading ones. Which for me means all of trading groups... :)

For over a year I've been managing the groups I'm in pretty tight and I could count examples of begging on fingers of one hand. Earlier on it was waaay more troubling and I'd get 2-3 invites like that every two weeks at least, especially when I had Skyrim in my inventory (ah, right, private inv also helps).
