Which mix did you enjoy the most (if you listened to any at all)?
I'm afraid I don' t have the patience to listen for over an hour, but based on what I did listen to I liked the Distortion mix the best. Hopefully someone who's more of a music buff can give you some better feedback.
Also, thanks for the giveaway!

Should have some shorter ones coming out in the near future if you're interested. Thanks for stopping by!

I spent a few minutes listening to your mix from January 26. your mixes are very abrupt, it's jarring. If/when you ever play in front of a live audience, it should be about the music, not the mixing. moving from track to track should generally be smooth, barely noticeable. The audience should be in the groove, which doesn't work if there's such a sudden shift as I keep hearing on your mixes.
There's a lot of tips I can give you, but it depends on (a) what kind of equipment do you use, and (b) how much have you already been taught? I presume that, like most bedroom DJs you're self-taught, but have you ever talked to other DJs? (preferably experienced/knowledgeable ones) Ever looked down on a DJ booth, so you could see what the DJ was doing? Spent an evening in a club listening carefully to the DJ, trying to pick apart what s/he was doing?

+1 felt the same way described in the first sentence.

eh, you should plan ahead, but a huge part of that is knowing your music collection intimately. knowing which tracks go very well with which tracks becomes intuitive after a while, even if you never figure out mixing in key. You've also got to adapt to the crowd, so that if you had planned on, say, having a heavier sound, but the crowd is digging groovier stuff, you go groovier.
Most importantly, if playing a longer set, is that you have a couple of really long songs, in case you need a bathroom break, and know several different ways to get there smoothly.
I made sure I always had three 10 minute plus records - enough to get to the bathroom, get to the bar, and back with enough time to not fuck it up

I see you're combining a lot of different genres with very different tempos. If you're new to DJing, you shouldn't really be doing that, it's not easy to transition smoothly between them and I'm afraid it doesn't sound really well in your case.

I'll listen to your mixes over the next couple days and I'll give you some honest feedback. This is right up my ally, I've been DJ'ing since last century (1998) ...haven't uploaded in a mix in a few years though. I'll share my last one with you though ;)

It looks like you make only dj mixes so your topic name is inappropriate. Don't say that it's your music. Change it to sth like "My fav music in dj mixes"
I know what I'm saying because I'm producing for around 3 years and I would be pissed off in that situation. You know - respect for the artists. Its really hard to make a good track, I know that really well haha.
Ps. Will check mix later on pc of I dont forget. Have been mixing for like 8 years in VDJ :V

Only 1 track posted, which I don't like. About to change my alias soon and post some of better track which are still not perfect but i like them. Just doing it for fun. :)
If you really wanna hear this terrible track with 0 compression in mixdown, my facebook page is on my steam profile, then you can find a soundcloud easily. :)

look, as far as I'm concerned, it's about the music. It doesn't matter what tools you use, whether it's vinyl, CDs, or software, whether you use effects or whatever.
But, a lot of tools that help beginners are also limiting, and it also can create a false confidence that you know what you're doing. The more you start to do things yourself, the better you become. The more you learn from other DJs, the better you become.
Mixing is about more than just beat matching, just as it's about more than just picking a bunch of tracks and playing them (in which case you're no better than an ipod).
The most important skill is to be able to read the crowd and play what they want to hear. The second most important skill is to mix in a way the crowd doesn't notice. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. A good DJ doesn't just play track after track, but can transform the music. Whether that means a long mix, a quick cut, scratching, or layering an acapella, there are a lot of "advanced skills" that require doing things by hand.
Just like anyone can throw a few loops together and say they've produced a track, there's a big difference between barely passable and knowing the ins-and-outs of it.

So why is using VDJ and calling yourself a DJ insulting? You can do everything you listed on VDJ just as easily as with CDJ's or turntables.
The second most important skill is to mix in a way the crowd doesn't notice.
Unless you're using techniques that emphasize it's a DJ set; scratching, beat juggling, strobing/chasing and stuff like that.

This was made using a 40 track mixer and cost less to produce than your average bundlestars bundle

Bump for dj mixes. Long tracks there. I'll probably play them in the background while I read.

You'd have to ask the artists whose songs I use if you want to use their music in a video. Some of the songs I use are free and/or No-Copyright, however.
If I ever do make any songs to my name, however, feel free to use them in your videos.

A Year Renewed is mellow compared to the other ones.
If you're looking for something more than that, my next one should be way more chill.

The time has come. I want to share my DJ mixes with the SteamGifts community.
I briefly talked about my music in my Christmas Train thread. On that thread, I sort of did a wrap-up of the year for myself and gave away AAA-game goodness. I figured since I haven't stopped making DJ mixes (which means this isn't a phase or "fad"), I would share them with you guys.
Last February, I finished my very first mix. Back then, I had no idea that this was to become an awesome and mentally stimulating hobby. After finally being able to financially sustain myself enough to accumulate a lot of EDM music, I started churning out more mixes than I would have thought possible. Only recently, however, have I shared them.
I first shared them with my friends and family. I took to Twitter to share them. I eventually posted them to gain exposure. I created a Facebook page for my DJ alias to expand my social media outreach.
And now, I feel like it's time SteamGifts gets to see them more in-depth.
I have really enjoyed the community here, almost from day one. Like many others, I first came to this site simply for free games. But the sheer amount of selfless, caring, supportive people here in this community changed my mind. And so I started to give away games to lucky winners. I feel like I want to give back to this community.
I want to do so with this thread in two different ways: 1. By providing a high-hype giveaway of Crypt of the Necrodancer open to all levels and all regions. 2. By sharing my work with you guys.
All of the mixes I have created contain Electronic Dance Music (EDM). EDM does not necessarily mean generic, 128-BPM stuff on the radio with house/electro beats. In my mixes, EDM consists of ALL music that is electronic, i.e. made primarily with music software. This includes dubstep, trap, electro, house, hardstyle, drum and bass, and many other genres and flavors.
I recognize not everybody likes this sort of music. That is okay. Just please abstain from posting non-constructive statements describing how much you hate EDM music (or other music). Everybody has their own tastes. I have mine and you have yours.
The Music
Now that sentiments are out of the way, I can discuss the mixes themselves. I have currently completed seven mixes and released six of them. I use a free music software called Audacity to create these mixes. For the sake of space, I will not list them all here. I will provide links to all three sites I use to share my DJ mixes below, as well as my Facebook and Twitter. You are certainly not required to click on these to access the giveaway. None of these links profit me in any monetary way.
Every time I upload a new mix, I will make a separate post on this forum that will link back here. In addition, I will make a new giveaway for every mix I release. I intend to update this post for every mix I release; however, due to the nature of the SteamGifts forums, this post may or may not be visible for each update. Next scheduled/intended release will be on or around March 21, 2016, and will be titled "Stadium 128."
I hope you guys enjoy the mixes I have created. I have put my heart and soul into these, spending countless hours to perfect each one. I'd love some constructive feedback if you have any. =)
