^ This. I'm gamer and that's my hobby, my Shangri-La when shit hits the fan, my sanctuary, my playground... my everything (well, not everything but a lot!). I could have gone somewhere, maybe a trip or something. I could have (finally) done something concrete, learn to play guitar (tried and failed) or finally afford something smart and useful (does having my own library count? I do have a ton of books...). But truth to be told, I used my money on games because I wanted to do so. Also, I've done some things I wanted to do, yes, they were done in somewhat delayed fashion, but still... I'm doing and will do many things I want to do, and I won't let anything (especially not gaming) prevent me from doing what I want. I'll just delay things a little if money is an issue.
I could have purchased DSLR. I've been saving money for some time, but if I wasn't buying games and computer parts, I could have purchased it by now... but I expect to get it soon, hopefully by the end of the next year...

Well, i give priority to Multiplayer so at this time i'm trying to finish a few SP games to proceed to other games.
Sometimes at night i prefer to play some shooters with my friends instead of Singleplayer games, but i will play most of the game in my library, that's for sure.

Not all that much here. The guilt of gaming for me involves the time sucked out of constructive endeavors like writing or learning new skills.
Gaming is cheap for me, compared to real life. :)
I usually get about $.40-.75/hour for the entertainment of a game I finish. There is little in the way of entertainment, for me, that is better value. My other hobby used to be sports cars. This is nothing.
The only thing I get more for less out of as a hobby, is probably gardening. There is some ROI there, too, as I get to offset a few vegetable costs and the cost of cut flowers.

I think I could have afforded to raise a dog or a cat.
