If this guy changes his account again, I don't care. I lost $20, just trying to do a fair trade for something on Humble Bundle. I do wish that Steam would at least get me the Gifted game back, but I'm mainly here to point out who the scammer is.

You should have checked their reps before trading (through Steam64 on SteamRep).

I didn't know of SteamRep yet, until today. I had no reason to use it before.

Clicking "his" trade rep link alone could've prevented that.. the original trader even has a profile pic stating that he has an impersonator :|

The time I clicked the link, the original user of that icon didn't change his icon yet.

Ah, I see. Anyway, you might want to consider installing Enhanced Steam to prevent any other scam attempts.

You got scammed by the impersonator. The person who you thought you're trading with has an avatar on his profile saying that he's got an impersonator. The guy on SG is over level 20 and over 2,000 games and the guy on steam you traded with is level 10 and has only 27 games.

You really should have been more careful.

Even so, you should have took a look at the steam profile of the person you're about to trade with. You'd notice he only has 27 games which should immediately be very suspicious. And then if you compared it with the steam account the SG links you to you would see they're not the same person.

You have to be careful when trading.

Guess I got too trusting, from when I've gone through 18 and up trades, and no scammers.

You don't click on a link directed at a trade profile, you use Enhanced Steam to go directly to the user's trade page associated with the ID64. That method would show that your scammer doesn't even have a trade profile, he just linked a random one. The added bonus is Enhanced Steam displays any SteamRep confirmations, so you can instantly know if a known scammer is trying to get you. (But if not, there is still a direct SteamRep link added, so you can check for reports.)

Bottom line: use Enhanced Steam if you trade. It saves a lot of money and headaches. :)

Might want to remove the link, otherwise you risk getting a suspension.

This might be a helpful read: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Idw0Z/make-faq-about-trades
I think we need an faq for trades but it seems the thread has little traffic and attention
