I've played the game several times and never got pissed off.

I got gifted it as a Christmas present and decided, "Hey, why not go for that achievement? That'd be a good way to get into the game, learn about how to play and have fun!" No, fuck you, developers. There's a difference between a game mechanic with luck-based elements (i.e. all of them ever) and a game mechanic based TOTALLY on luck (not one, but TWO high chances to fail) with no skill whatsoever. Uninstalled that shit the moment I finally got it (and a fuckload of other achievements that I didn't actually earn, I don't know what the hell happened there o_O) and it's sitting in my game library untouched until I dislike it less.

It really is a great game, hope one day you won't get mad by playing it. ):

I agree with jade,
The game design is interesting and everything, but having an engine almost completely dependant on luck is just weird.
And seems like the developers were trying to encourage replayability (which is again, interesting but frustrating when you go through the whole game 15 times trying to get an item).

I do like its artistic design though.

What more do you expect from a rougelike game?

There were no cookies in this game. 0/10. Would not play again.

Seriously, though, I have no problem with the game itself. I like roguelikes, even the ASCII ones I can barely understand looking at, but this one just rubbed me the wrong way with the Christmas achievement and how that influenced the rest of the game being like, a frustrating mess with little fun.

Yes, the achievement gave it a bad taste.
I'm not entirely familiar with 'rough' games, is that how they're designed? Going through random levels and dying alot?

Pretty much. They can be very hard but they can also be very rewarding. BoI is the first one that's left a bad taste in my mouth. I will play it again, I just need some time away from it so I can get rid of my reluctance to touch it again.

Pretty much, but it's a basic Roguelike. There are far more 'unforgiving' roguelikes about, suchas Dwarf Fortress. They're games that generally just throw you into it, and you play, no questions asked. All the info you basically have to know or find out yourself.

They're games that are easy to play, but probably the hardest to master.

I agree the Christmas achievement was pretty bad.

ALL OF EM! HAHAHAHAHA!

Nah, just kidding. Uhm... I think Machinarium, Binding of Isaac, and Cave Story+ would all be fine ideas.

I voted Dungeons of Dredmore. Simply because I'd play it.

Any would make fine choices, but Binding of Isaac or Machinarium seem cool to me. :)

Machinarium and Edge. And thanks for pointing out the Capsized, it looks interesting as well.

Btw, have you thought about TRINE 2? It's not too expensive either and many people want it here ;-)

I miss mainstream games on Steamgifts... There are way too much indie and Valve giveaways since SteamGifts.com went public.

A) You just said Valve games aren't mainstream.

B) What's wrong with indie games? They're awesome.

Most people have the Bundle games, so if you want a larger audience skip those.

In any case thank you for doing this!

Cave Story Plus, Dungeons of Dredmor or Cave Story+ are all excellent games from what I've played.
