Are you scared of cockroach?
A few of them do but not all of them. People are still scared/disgusted of catterpillars, worms, moths or crickets even though they're harmless. It's not simple to explain, for example I'm not scared by rats while my mother can't even look at them but she's not scared of bugs at all while I can't stand them. Why is that?

I think phobia is way more extreme than that, I have a friend with a real phobia and he goes into panic attacks when he sees the object he's scared of. Phobia is too easily thrown around as a diagnosis. I'm scared of bugs but not that bad that I'd need treatment, I can even touch them even though I don't like it.

Even Wolverine is wise to fear cockroaches. They will one day rise and rule the world.

Seriously, they’re totally gross when you crush them and all the ooze comes out. shudder

Definitely this. Cockroaches are gross, but at least they try and get away from you. Cicadas and moths flap right into you 😰

My only fear are spiders. This phobia is caused by my childhood period when we had small thin spiders in our corners, especially in the bathroom. When I was 8, I always stared at them while taking a shower, I was very scared. I never tried to tell my parents about my fear though. Didn’t want them to know that I’m afraid of something. I’m still afraid of spiders and I’m 23.

Funny how phobias can arise, or not, even under the same circumstances. When I was a kid, we had tons of spiders too, but I was never scared of them--in fact,. I used to go around, gather them all up, and play with them for a while, then I'd go back around and put them all back in their webs. They never bit me, so I guess they didn't mind too much, lol.
Bees, though. Bees can eff off. I'm afraid of heights and even more afraid of ladders, but once when I was on the roof trimming a tree, a bee stung me, and I was down that ladder so fast I don't even remember the descent.

As long as they're well fed they would probably refrain from trying your ass as a dessert
Bingo ✔
wish i could "tune it's settings" to customize it a little to make it less impactful/annoying

Also fear is a defense mechanism, there is no reason to "face" your defense mechanism.
Absurd ❌

Because cockroaches are evil, dangerous things. If you don't watch out they band together with the spiders and take your little puppies away for food.
I've seen it happen!

I had a roommate who would scream like a girl and run away when he saw cockroaches .. guy had a serious phobia of them..
I personally dont have any problem with bugs or cockroaches.. but spiders - hell, even if I see harmless little spider crawling in the other end of my room - panic starts to settle in. Once there was a huge spider (almost hand sized) near my head while sleeping on couch. I got up and didnt sit in the couch for a weeks.. (that was at friends house btw, I had around 100 km to drive home that night - the drive was rather uncomfortable - I thought that huge ass spider has come with me and is everywhere in the car and in my gloves)
I suppose everyone has some kind of phobia or irrational fear of a thing or two
PS - just remembered - either the same huge spider or to our horror another one came crawling out, someone took a slipper and hit the spider - the motherfucker took the hit and just walked it off. The fucker probably had enough protein to survive, probably ate a rat or two

To be honest I havent seen a cockroach for a long time either. Last one I remember is when I lived in dorms 8 years ago, and even then - we fixed up our room and they disappeared (some still lived behind refrigerator, bet we killed those with deodorant and a lighter.. and one hell of a fire show for us)
I do love owls though. Ive seen grown up owls only in sanctuary, but we once found a baby owl with broken wing near our home. We took the little one in, nursed him back to life and then released it back. For several years (after moving out sadly) I was told the owl was seen visiting the house now and then sitting in trees. But it was either killed or forgot about us as it stopped visiting

Last week, I was driving with my family when my son said "Daddy, stop the car, there's a huge spider". And sure enough, it was there, on the ceiling.
My wife started screaming so I pulled over, removed my shoe and took the bugger out.
It was bigger than those I've seen here (France) and I suspect it was hiding in the Christmas tree I transported in the car two weeks ago.
And now, every time I get in the car, I do a quick inspection ...
I jump when I see spiders and I'm older than you but cockroaches are not scary to me.

Not only are they bugs, but a specific pest that doesn't look humanoid at all and with your personal experience adding on top to the disgust. A dog, cat, birb, frog, green-man-alien, whatnot you come across those are humanoid looking - share many features humans have (some skin, eyes, limbs, mouths, etc.). Millions of years of ancestral experiences passed on as genetic information (dog = friend, birb flying-yum, cat = friend, etc.). The less human it look, the more disgusting/alienating it is are to humans in general. Conversely, this is why people like attributing humanoid features on almost anything. (related google: pareidolia, anthropomorphism, humanoid)

I'm more "disgusted" than "scared" of them. The stuff I'm really scared of are spiders (phobia) and anything with a stinger (bees, wasps, also I occasionally see these weird little completely black fly-wasp-lookalike things which also have stingers, they hurt like hell).
Honestly, I find most insects disgusting but nothing is stopping me from just crushing the ones I'm not terrified of into bug paste if they are where they're not supposed to be. (Well, ok, there are those flying "stinker" bugs that leave an awful smell if you crush them- I just catch those with some paper and flush them down the toiler or throw them outside. They're surprisingly slow, so it's easy to do.)

If it can't bite me, poison me, scratch me or otherwise kill me.

They sure are disgusting and can spread diseases on your food. The ultimate bio weapon, better than Metal Gear ^^.
There's this red wasp here on warm places. You better fear this mofo, It's sting is so painful and the venom can cause a bad reaction on some people:

Did you know that cockroaches are bred in China? They are used for medicine and waste disposal. No need to be afraid of them.

no, I generally don't care about them.. but I know many people scared of many animals, maybe because I grew up in a farmer's family here in the hills in Northern Italy, we don't have that much wild life of course but yeah there are wolves boars cows insects of any kind spiders snakes and such.. I'm not scared though for some reason luckily =P I know there are lots of psychological studies about humanity's ancestral fears and so on though!

So a few years ago, i put on my shoes to go to work like i always do, but i felt something inside, and it was trying to crawl out. scratching my socks, I looked and it was cockroach. To this day, every time I put on a shoes, I make sure to check, I don't care if the house is burning, Im checking that shoe.
Every time I encounter a cockroach, I freak out and it makes my skin crawl; even if its just a penny that I mistakenly took for a cockroach.
I know they're harmless, yet i jump like a little girl when I see one, and im 32 years old.. what the heck?
for some reason, i find them really really gross?
