well subscription models aren't really considered P2W (well they may be if there are also microtransactions that can boost your stats etc) - what you talk about sonds more like Freemium - Free Players get access just to part of the game, while full game requires monthly sub or buying it. It's a common thing in MMOs mostly - giving you access to "trial" and when you finish it you either buy a full game or decide for subscription - it's just like a 'demo' ;p

Thats called a trial.
Not P2W or F2P....
I remember that game, nothing bad about that model really...

AVA now, I remeber in the old days when it was owned by a different company I would LOVE the game, the game felt very balanced, it had a very small ascept of pay to win, that was barely noticeable. Now the game is utter shit, the old company sold it to a different one and its 100% pay to win, it sucks now.

Haha XD, I can't believe you actually remember that.

All those browser games that offer "VIP" bonuses or have auto-path featured are usually really p2w. Whoever drops the most money in the game wins. Hearthstone on the other hand, is very p2w. Sure, it takes a while to earn legendaries but you can get to a decent rank(rank 10 or lower) using just the free basic cards.

Runes of Magic was the worst pay to win crap I had the disgrace to play

I have to agree with this. It's really subtle and they're doing this very quietly. I won't even notice until you get an item that has really good stats for its level only to realize you can't use it because you don't own the expansion it belongs to. If these items were dropping in the areas that the expansion introduced it would be one thing. But they drop from enemies in the core game. So not only does this game have The Old Republic levels of penalties for non-subscribers but it's now starting to shift towards a p2w base too.

Forget that first part, the starter guns are actually in the top 5 guns last I played. You can be competitive with them for sure...

I havent play the game for months (almost top rank on both chars - steady gold) and even so i remember that the golden nano (the very 1st one) was a beast. I got the chance to test it when I was lucky to get one on the market for only 1$ (tested it for a week and then returned it to its previous owner). Silenced, with a large clip and could easily hit guys like 50m away. Not even the specialists nanos could get near that golden one. I know you can do good with any other secondarie but that nano is just better than any other. it was the only weapon I put on the categorie "p2w".

how is WoW P2W? every subscriber has basically the same game with same features, and all microtransaction things are cosmetic only (like shinier mounts and companion pets). at least it was so 3 years ago when I've quit, but I didn't hear anything about Blizz adding any P2W features...

Mmm, Bliz added buyable level 90s, so a lot of people have been spouting P2W at that. Though honestly, if you take even a few minutes to read about it, it's more just paying for the convenience of not having to level to 90. Considering WoW has always been a game that "starts" at the level cap, I don't really consider it a bad thing. You still have to work for your gear anyway, cause they start you with entry level raid gear if I remember correctly.

hmm, this must have been added after I quit, but still - it's not P2W in my book - ypu just get the same level anyone ends leveling with, it doesn't give you any bonus stats, awesome gear etc. What bothers me there only is - what about realm/region/world firsts? Or do they disable Pay 2 Level Up when level cap rises?

Just played a bit of Frontline Tactics, and that's blatantly Pay to Win from the offset.

Mobile games as a whole. "This will take 4-24 hours to do but if you pay it will take 5 minutes or less."

+1 to this, especially in games like:
Clash of Clans, dayum in the beginning the game is hella fun, after your around th 6 though, everything takes 3 days to upgrade, and the only way to not make it boring is to spend money
Hungry Shark EVO, this game takes FOREVER to beat, you'll get bored and frustrated and end up spending money

Especially things by GameLoft. Pretty sneaky if you ask me, given that most of their games target users who usually don't have that firm of a grasp of measured worth. For example, in the Gameloft MLP mobile app you can spend a month grinding your profile to max, getting a free gem or two every level, and relying on random chance drops from clearing specific obstacles just to buy one pony or shop REQUIRED to progress the story, spend a portion of that to now 'skip' that part of the quest and then more for every related one, or you can buy $29.99 worth of gems that will be completely invalid if Gameloft ever decides it wants to do random wipes. They rely on children who are not money savvy for their entire business model.
An adult sees it as "What do I really gain by paying CAD$29.99 for 450 gems in this game? Not a whole lot, and it isn't even permanent." Whereas a child would see it, "But I have to have Princess Celestia!" Hell, if your kid expects to complete just THAT game, never mind if they play other such apps simultaneously, you're looking at about a $300 bill, and that's hoping your kid is patient enough not to feed more gems into the "Do it now!" timer skip button. They've long since made back the development costs of the game, so it's not like they'd lose much by toning down the paygate focus in the older content as they continue to churn out new stuff.

Well you can buy EXP boosts for $$ so you can outlevel your opponents in laning phase , ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Damn, so many memories with this one
And I agree - while the game was insanely fun...it was also insanely...pay-to-get-good-stuff. Ya know, cant call it P2W in a social game xd
Basically to get any stuff you had to pay. Clothing, furniture, pets, stuff. They only gave away some free items from time to time

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is fun to play, but reaches for the crown in Formula P2W.
Reach a high enough level or get enough crowns (ladder points) you run into castle after castle full of P2W monsters and traps. Also there's a number of monster and trap that fall in te "you should have been there to get them" category. Available only on special ocasions like thanksgiving and halloween.
This would not have been a problem if the changes were cosmetic, but ofcourse most of the non-regular monster and traps are OP remakes of their regular counterparts
So, if you want to reach te top, spend your money and cancel your hollyday plans with the family.

Darkorbit is one of the most pay to win games. In that game you can spend $30.000 and not even have the best equipment -_-
