So like 8-9 days ago I made an Alpha Protocol giveaway.
However, the winner turned out to be kind of an ass, as after I encouraged him to comment on more giveaways, i.e. say thanks, he just ignored me and now I am still awaiting a response to the receival.

Well, considering it would look bad having one gift and none received, I went on to ask the support whether it could be marked as received anyway.
That was...5, 5 days ago, I have yet to receive an answer.

Before, I considered starting some more giveaways, especially come Christmas and some holiday sales.
After that bad of a start, I feel kind of, well, yeah, disencouraged.

Thoughts? Am I a dick? Did I just get unlucky having such an ass as a winner? I don't even know.

No, the giveaway creator is a total asswipe and should be banned immediatly.

There will always be assholes with entitlement complexes wherever there is free stuff to be had. Report his conduct (via email if you don't want to name and shame), maybe we can have one less.

Well the name and shame is unavoidable since the giveaway he made is public, and you can see the winner right by going through his profile to his giveaway.

You're not a dick, just unlucky with who won it seems. Did you actually talk to him on Steam? Just a heads up, it will say a user is ignoring you if you try to add them more than once.

Also, when e-mailing Steamgifts it does take a while to hear back. I e-mailed once re: winning a giveaway that ended up being for a 3-day guest pass and just wanted the record of the win to be deleted. It took 11 days to hear back and have the giveaway stricken from my wins and the feedback left to not count (I left positive feedback because it was an honest mistake).

No big deal, you may get a quicker response on this forum since I'm sure the e-mail is filled with spam complaints/suggestions/appeals/etc.

Does the gift show as redeemed in your "manage gifts and guest passes" section of your Steam account?

It does, I talked to him via Steam, he is indeed ignoring me.
And yes, it does show up as redeemed, which I stated in the e-mail I'd attach as proof if needed. :3c
I guess I'll just wait longer for a response then.

I added the winner on Steam, so I'll try to see what's going on. If he's unable to understand the concept of the site, and how it works, we may have to remove him. Nonetheless, you'll be left with received feedback either way, as it's obvious the gift was sent and received. However, I'll try to get in touch and have him mark it first. The e-mail is completely overloaded as jessej07 said, so it's difficult to get through at times. Eventually, we'll try to setup a support system, where users can submit tickets through the site, and all the moderators are able to respond.

It's worth it when you get a nice email from someone letting you know how happy your gift has made them. I make sure to send a personal email to the gifter every time and have been lucky to recieve a message myself once.

If you find cg on the Steam chat then you can send him a private message about marking your gift as recieved. He is very responsive.

I hope that you choose to stick around and that your next winner will be more gracious.

i enjoy the personal messages from winners too. it really makes my day. only about 1/3 to 1/2 do that though (in my experience). If someone won a second giveaway and they never said thanks for the first one, i would probably ask to have it rerolled.

Just take a screenshot showing his email and that he reedemed the gift. The admins will know if you are telling the truth

What made him an ass? Did he not thank you after winning the game? Or is your only complaint that he doesn't say thanks enough in giveaways full of 2-3 pages of people saying thanks?

No, what made him an ass was the fact that he never marked the gift as received, so the gifter was left with a record of 1 giveaway to which nobody ever received a gift.

It seems less likely that the guy is purposely not marking it as received and more likely that he doesn't really understand how the site works.

Actually reading the original post would be wise. Just a thought.

Read it. He tells the guy to say thanks more in giveaways and says he didn't mark the gift as received. Does that make somebody an ass? Either the guy just doesn't really know about marking things as received or there is something else he did to make him an ass.

I actually did remind him of marking the gift as received, though.
So it can't be the misunderstanding of the site's concept - additionally, he gets a notification that he has to mark the gift as received on top each time he visits iirc.
Also yes, I did tell him that it would be appreciated to say thanks in every entered giveaway, but I do not feel that is in any way rude.
