A 1 hour giveaway for Munin is here, behind a captcha.

For comparison, a couple of months ago a 1 hour public GA for this game ended with 957 entries. This was before the new point system update, but even competing with 300 bots is no fun. Update: This GA ended with 91 entries, all human.

If 1 hour giveaways (and only 1 hour giveaways) were protected with easy captchas (not street signs etc), would you enter?

What's the issue with wanting to put these particular ones behind a captcha? Captch me up, please.

Many people hate captchas, but if they're only used for 1 hour bot-infested GAs (and if they're very easy to solve), I think it makes for a tradeoff that most people would be fine with.

for me it's more like for all public giveaways, and not limited to the 1 hour giveaways
I haven't tried doing this kind of stuff tho

All lvl 0 and 1 "open for all" GA's are infested by bots, autojoiners, extrem leechers. I would say 90% are such ones.
On lvl 2 i think they are 50%

So such captcha help for sure
BUT i am sure it is easy to slip around (Makro of mousemoving saved and attached to a bot/autojoiner ?)

As i ever say.... every little bit helps...

Look as example on Plague Inc, lvl 0, created before the pointchange, over 7k try it. Real players are there only a few.... because the real ones removed there entries (mostly) to take the points for better chances. The count is not really dropped since the pointchange.
From my line of sight all that are there in should be looked closer for bot/autojoiner behavior.

You are whitelisted now and i sended you a friendrequest in steam (we have 9 same friends there... brings me a bit to smiling... the sg forum world is small^^)

I will set up a test tomorrow and inform you closer over it (on steam) :)

So that bots wouldn’t join them, as they are probably programmed to enter fast gibs

How to know "even competing with 300 bots"?
About captcha: some of them bad to pass from mobile devices.

I don't know the exact number of bots, but there are strong signs that many (possibly most) of entries for public low level GAs are from script users. The reduction from 957 to a few hundreds (300 is just a guess) is based on some people comments that show that the new system has already helped to reduce the number of entries significantly.

As for mobile devices, there are capchas intended specifically for them, but I don't think they can be as easy as clicking a checkbox. That's the reality of mobile devices, many other things are more difficult than on a PC (typing for example).

Look at https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/cO2Vo/furi
1h~600 entries (edit: >700).
I think it because now all have less points for use.
And bots.. bots alive. All public GAs <=2 lvl are for bots, multiple accounts and ppl who do mass entries in 1 visit SG site.

I already have the game but I tested the captcha and I can also do it with JavaScript, so the AutoJoiner could just search for "recaptcha-checkbox-checkmark" and fake a click-event :(

I think this was implemented the way that it will look at how you „clicked“ e.g. that a virtuel Click won’t work

I suggest you try it. According to this thread it's not so trivial.

Okay sorry I thought it was just the "I'm not a robot" thing but in my other browser I see I have to choose pictures with traffic signs. Yes then it is not that trivial :) But I often fail to solve them 😅

The checkbox is only replaced by traffic signs when reCAPTCHA identifies suspect behavior. I think it would be fine if this fallback would be disabled completely and that the site would rely only on the latest logic of checkbox-only verification. We need to keep in mind that what's at stake here is only the chance to enter giveaways, nothing really serious (like account or billing details theft).

because if it failed to load then you can't enter that GA (and you don't know)

It happens very often to me when I bought Humble Bundle :(

why didn't use puzzle instead of captcha ouo[]press ?
btw how much revenue did you get from ouo with this thread ? xD

I didn't use a puzzle because this thread is aiming to illustrate the use of a captcha.

I don't get any revenue from ouo. In fact, I didn't even know they pay users.
