Question about the Greenlight games giveaways?

Why do they create a giveaway if the game is not even out on Steam yet?
And what if it won't come out on Steam? I won a greenlight game giveaway some weeks ago, but I have no use for the key since the game is not yet on Steam, and probably will not.

Or did I miss something? Can I activate the key somewhere else?

You can activate on desura (i think so), but if you have any problems with this kind of giveaway just don't enter, you may have something that you didn't wanted for all and somebody who wanted gets nothing.

Okay thanks. I entered because the game looked fun, but I'm probably not going to install Desura. One is enough for me(Steam)

You don't need to install Desura, you can download the game from the website when you activated it.
