Humble Bundle updated their terms of service on Dec 24, 2024 to state the following:

In some cases due to various reasons, a key may not be available to replenish and in such cases, Humble Bundle may offer the same game on a different platform (“Alternate Keys”) if this is a possibility. In cases where Alternate Keys are not available to replenish, Humble Bundle is not obligated to provide them. Keys, including Alternate Keys, for all games, whether bought in a Bundle, Humble Choice subscription, or individually, must be redeemed within 3 years from the purchase date. Humble Bundle shall not be obligated to provide any keys, including Alternate Keys, to games that are unredeemed within aforementioned timeframe and thus become expired.

People have been reporting that keys over three years old now gives a "no longer available" message, even for keys already revealed. Keys over three years old still work if you've saved them luckily. Always reveal and write down your keys as soon as you buy a bundle or from the store. Unfortunately humble sells bundles now when the keys are already out of stock so we can't do much about that. It does make me question the financial stability of the subsidiary. I wonder if IGN will be shutting them down soon.

Edit: This currently may only affect certain bundles. I've gone through some of my older unrevealed keys and they still work for now. Still, it's better to make a backup of everything in case they do decide to invoke this TOS on everything.

Edit 2: Ran into my first missing key in Humble Jumbo Bundle 11 for Domina. It states "This content has been removed. We apologize for any inconvenience." Apparently this is unrelated to the TOS change and was removed a long time ago.

Edit 3: I can confirm Per Aspera in the Humble Choice February 2022 says
"Oops! This game key is no longer available.
It has been over 3 years since purchase, exceeding our terms of service."

Edit 4: See this thread for additional games that have been removed:

It's really sad to see Humble slowly decaying into what's obviously going to be its inevitable end, they were the reason why I originally stopped pirating games and started using Steam instead.
That said I did go through my unredeemed keys a couple of days ago and backed them up just in case, there were only a handful tho cos I haven't bought any of their bundles in a long time.

Is there an easy way to extract all humble bundle unrevealed keys to a text or spreadsheet or something?

You can sort games by unrevealed like always.

All? Not that I know of.

I made this script a while back that dumps a bundle's revealed keys to a text area you can copy to a spreadsheet.

So now they can ROB us of our purchased keys because they said so in their recently updated terms of service, and somehow those terms are applied to the bundles which were purchased months or years ago under a different agreement between the customer and HB.

It's almost like they already know nobody is going to sue them. Can't wait until the EU lays into them for breaking customer rights laws

I don't think Humble Bundle considered laws properly...

In Europe you either give the customer the things he paid for or you have to give the customer the money back, nothing like "Woops! It took us too long on our side, you lose."

Oh shit, it's happening... Most games still give keys, but for some it's either this dire message or "temporary out of stock".

Well, I USED to have hundreds of keys on Humble. I'll have to be faster on giving away keys that I still have. Not that keys less than three years have any guarantee of being honored anyway.

I get they can change the rules whenever, but my older keys should be grandfathered in. Changing the rules for keys after buying the them is theft in my opinion. As I would have used those keys if I had been warned about this.

I believe Domina was de-activated from Steam store and cant get new keys

Domina never needed more keys for Domina. They removed access to the Steam key from the purchase page for all the purchasers of that bundle and they destroyed all the Steam codes they had on their database.

Nothing new for me.

They're usually good with noting expirationd dates, but I don't expect things to last based on my past experience. They gave me an invalid key once, and when I asked for the replacement, they gave me something else. Through that whole process I just wasn't up for fighting it. It used to also have a bunch of giveaways back then, and I remember one in particular that you couldn't just merely claim. You had to download it from them, in a limited time. I was on vacation then, and had a jmuch difficult time with merely downloading it on my phone. Times have changed and...yet it's a missed opportunity.

I didn't really care when Steam's terms of service changed from owning the game to subscribing to a license to use the game. However, if it's a problem that deceives buyers, like Ubisoft's The Crew service shutdown, there has to be some kind of solution.

It's true that many people flocked to the bundle site after its launch, and as a result, many digital hoarders were created. Among those many users, there must be various reasons for saving keys, except for those who use the keys immediately after purchase, and I think their rights should be protected.

Rather than simply revising the terms, there would be a way to directly and clearly state the expiration date of the key, or to provide a detailed explanation in the service notice. It doesn't seem like there has been a large-scale key cancellation yet, but I hope Humble takes definite action.

However, I think it's going to be passed over. In the future, I hope that buyers will find a personal solution by opening and using the key immediately or saving it in a spreadsheet.

They just changed the lettering, and had to make it clearer, but it always been only a license

I think Humble purposely created confusion here by using the word "reveal". They are expecting some people to not "reveal" their keys (after all... the key is there just waiting for you... right???) and thus they wind up having to give out less keys.

Of course, the correct word is "request key from pool". But if they used those words people would realize that there is a limited supply of keys and many more people would be requesting keys before they run out.

All and all kind of sleazy tactics.

It's funny how you have to buy the games and then being expected to make reservation after the financial transaction was done, one would expect it's the most automatic and basic part of any trade.

Damn. It.

I acivated most keys but I still had a lot of unused ones. Had I known, I'd have at least made giveaways for them.

Time to check all my Humble buys bunbles bought before 2022, I guess...

EDIT: so far where I checked, confirming most reports. Currently chekcing before February 2022 but soon to look forward too. Lesson learned, just reveal any key and write it down (and pray they won't dwactivate it anyway at some point without notice).

After dealing with many pages of redeeming, while double checking things. I found out that there was something else, not only that this game was unredeemable. This game was completely gone, gone from searching it via classic Keys & Entitlements or checking bundles themselves.
It is Pixel Piracy from Humble Indie Bundle 14. So there might be more games removed like these.

Same goes for Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter from July 2017 humble monthly. That's in some more humble bundles i don't have, probably the same situation. There were some disputes between the developer and publisher and they weren't giving out keys anymore but now on top of that they're pretending it was never there in the first place.

Nacon is no longer the publisher and Frogwares isn't exactly the pinnacle of honesty themselves. So that one will likely never reappear.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/x4y4m0/domina_removed_from_steam_after_studios_antitrans/

Humble played their SJW card and removed the game from our libraries without any reason to do so, and without any warning or notice. They could just have stopped selling the game on the Humble Store but besides that they had no rights to touch our purchases.

Well shit. I've got probably dozens of unrevealed keys. Some warning would have been nice.

Update: My oldest unredeemed keys were over 12 years old and still worked fine. I'm going to assume it's only extreme circumstances where the keys won't work, or for games going forward.

The keys work if you - this is about cases where you don't get a key at all because they over sold the bundles

Permalink

This is why I only buy bundles I am interest in and go for a split if I am not interested in all the games. This way you are less likely to leave unrevealed keys on the table.

Isn't this an anti-consumer practice and we can't sue them for it? Like, we bought these keys, we should have the rights to reveal and get them whenever we want. If they changed their TOS, it should has effect in keys and bundles sold after the TOS change, not before.

If they changed their TOS, it should has effect in keys and bundles sold after the TOS change, not before.

Indeed. And it should be announced as a new policy in an email and on purchase pages, not slipped in TOS and retrospectively active.
If you pay for Choice to get 10 games for example and you're only getting 8, they should refund you a portion of the price paid or give you your keys.
And since we are talking about digital products and not actual physical products that can actually become unavailable, they are just asking for a lawsuit at this point.
