Hi SG,

A few changes rolled out to the site today. I'll point them out because they are easy to overlook.

  1. Game pages

In the past when you clicked on the magnifying glass icon beside a giveaway you would be redirected to the homepage with a filter for that game. For example, if you previously clicked the icon beside a giveaway for "Spiritfarer®: Farewell Edition" you would be sent here. With the change we now have separate pages for each game, so if you click that icon today you'll end up here.

    • These pages include a few statistics about the game, such as the total number of giveaways on our site, how many giveaways you entered for the game, the percentage of gifts for the game that have been received, and changes to the contributor value dates. If you like graphs, there's also a stats page that shows the giveaways over time and giveaways per level for the game.
    • You'll see a dropdown near the top right of the giveaway list on these pages when you're logged in. By default it's set to "Available", meaning the page is displaying giveaways that you are able to join. There's also the option to change the dropdown to "All" if you would like to see all of the giveaways for the game. The setting you choose will be remembered across all game pages. Whether or not you see giveaways above your level is determined by the relevant setting on your account page.
    • As some users noted, in the past it was difficult to look up certain games. In this case, trying to search the site archive for a game called "oO" was difficult because so many other games contained those characters. The new pages solve that problem.
    • Our previous redirects have also been updated to these pages, so you can use app or sub URLs and to be sent to the appropriate game page. For example, change a Steam URL from https://store.steampowered.com/app/4000/Garrys_Mod/ to https://www.steamgifts.com/app/4000 and you will be sent to https://www.steamgifts.com/game/Q6JGq/garrys-mod.
    • For moderators, we have a section on these pages to write notes about each game, so we can share information and stay more organized about changes we've made to their contributor value.
  2. Giveaway stats

On giveaway pages you'll see a new button in the left column called "Stats". This page will show a graph of entries per hour the giveaway has received. Here's a graph from one of my holiday giveaways. It can help you identify patterns in the giveaway entries. For example, maybe you promoted the giveaway on a third-party site and want to see the impact. Or, maybe you want to visualize when users are solving your puzzle and joining your invite only giveaway. Or, maybe you posted a three week giveaway and want to see when the majority of entries are coming in. With my example, I sent out a large number of emails regarding the holiday event on December 14th, and we can see a spike in entries at that time.

  3. Footer

The footer has been updated to be more organized. I also removed some unnecessary links and added some others, such as those to the guidelines and FAQ.

  4. SEO updates

There's been a number of small changes throughout the site to hopefully help with search engines and organic traffic. As some people already noticed, there's been updates to page titles, descriptions, headings, etc. The new game pages should help as well. In the past when users would search on Google for a phrase such as "Borderlands Steam giveaway" they would typically end up on a random giveaway from years ago. The game pages should rank far better than the giveaway pages and provide a better landing page and experience for incoming visitors.

Seriously why would i or someone be interested in giveaways that are done and over? There was already the archive for that (but oh wait that's gone at the bottom). This just confuses people thinking oh look there are giveaways for it, nope they are over.

If it ain't broke, dont fix it..

Yeah I was confussed about that as well, been offline for a few years. Remembered vaguely there was an option to see all the GA's for a certain title and then I see suddenly stuff from months ago...

On the page, there are options on the left hand side to filter open, deleted and closed giveaways. Also the giveaways are organised in terms of end time of giveaways so the open ones should always be at the top if there are any.

Thanks, i did not know about the filters, still in my opinion (for what it's worth) i find all past ones unnecessary, but it's not my site in the end.

This is a mess in my opinion. It was fine the way it was or there should be a setting to turn it on/off because most people use the magnifying glass to just look for other open giveaways of the same game that are available to them. They don't care about that other stuff.

While I am on the list with "Available" as the selected option, I see a giveaway that ended 11 months ago.
Is this supposed to show up? Since it has ended in my opinion it is not available anymore...

On second look I also see that others that have ended but I entered are displaying in the list.
I have been offline for a few years so I have no clue what the old standard was before this update.

When they mean available, i think they mean available to enter in terms of meeting the criteria whether it was a whitelist/group/level at the time. I also think there should be an option for open/active giveaways where they are able to enter at the current moment in time also to make it better and more useful.

That's a possibility, hence why I said that when it has ended I personally don't count it as available anymore.

A small change to address this would be some "Barrier" between the active and ended GA's
Here in the threads you have a line separating the comments, make also such a thing with the ended Ga's in red for example.
To make it more clear.

Just my 2 cents.

Just had a closer look, on the left hand side there are options for open and closed giveaways so you can filter this. :)

I see, thx.
Would have been more logical to have it at "Open" as default but whatever.

I just noticed this thread and most of the changes seem nice, I particularly like that we get stats for GA entries and how many GAs have been created for any given game, so it looks like a nice update. The new title for the "giveaways" page is a bit clunky tho.
Thanks for the work done :)

how many GAs have been created for any given game

Not sure if you knew that was already available, or just commenting on the extra info under the stats page?

If you didn't, fyi: Giveaways > Community Wishlist > Search gives that same particular info.

I knew we could check the amount itself but I think the breakdown per month is new, I was referring to that. For example I checked for one of my recent giveaways and found out that while there's thousands of GAs created for DmC, in recent months there's only about 5 GAs per month for that game, it really puts in perspective how giveaways for one game can all be clustered around one point in time when said game was bundled.
Not sure if it's actually useful, but it sure is interesting to look at for a few minutes.

Why can't it default to open available? I think you made it worse

Footer looks a lot better.

I was surprised to see a link to SteamTrades, I thought there was a clear split between the two sites a few years ago.

(I was even more surprised to see a "Guidelines" section on SteamTrades. Unless that site is moderated, I don't really understand the purpose of "guidelines." Just hoping for the honor system?)

No, by default it is set to "All" (the option that applies the filter is on the left column), so it is displaying ended giveaways too. I have to click on "open" (left column) to display giveaways available to join. So now I have to click 2 times instead of one like it was before the update to do the same thing.

"Available" as button in the top right corner. Not left column.

This page is more like archive with extra stats, ability to search via appID URL and hub-like capabilities. Not only place to see open GAs from the main page. That's why it defaults to all available giveaways. Not only few (or none...) you can enter at that exact second.

Yes, but now is worse, not only for me. Those extra stats are ok, but most people will not use it all the time like it was with the previous feature of the magnifying glass icon.

And my comment was related to this explanation of the OP:

meaning the page is displaying giveaways that you are able to join.

That sentence is not true.

that you are able to join

Hm, true. It would be better written "that you meet criteria to join" (or similar). As it's both open and closed GAs.

Though only cg can know how many people were using magnifying glass, if it was even tracked. I personally never used it. And would not even realize it's gone if cg would decide to remove it. Any change will always have people that don't agree with it. Just like people that do not like change of main page tab title. How point system works now with static generation per hour. How there is no fixed ratio of unbundled:bundled CV. That was creating elytyst people who had more than 25CV, and "bad" people that could never go above 25CV for giving away bundle leftovers.

In the end, people will just get used to it. Unless the change is site breaking.

Well, it's pretty easy to set it to "open" by default instead of "all" (I'm talking about the left column). I am not criticizing the new page for giveaways, only the default setting.

hi, would it be possible to make the lines that are between giveaways yet to begin, open giveaways and ended giveaways thicker or otherwise somehow better visible.
as it is now (and has been) its barely visible, especially on phone where everything is very small already
thanks

I doubt you will notice this message, but if possible - please, make "Open" giveaways default page for game pages, instead of "All". Or add a configuration option for this (maybe there is one and I just didn't notice?). Or maybe make site remember which tab I last used and make it default. It's kinda inconvenient when you press magnifier to enter all giveaways for same game, end up on a page with 20+ gibs, but only one of them is actually active(the one you already entered).

The stats page shows incorrect confusing data at least "Giveaways Per Level" graph.
The "Total GA" & "Total Copies" shows only ended GAs' counts, while the "Giveaways You Entered" shows count for ongoing GAs too.
eg. https://www.steamgifts.com/game/olUJR/red-wings-american-aces/stats

In the screenshot, you can see that I have entered 1 GA. But the only GA in list below is above my level, and it is not the faded, because it's not the GA I entered.

I see, that is a bit confusing indeed.
My guess is that you have entered an Invite Only GA, and these are not included in Total and Stats until they ended

Yes, it's an invite only.
As per my understanding, ongoing GAs are not included in the counts regardless of whether they are public or invite only.
Checked, happens only in case of private GAs.
