Ouran High School Host Club is one you definitely want to watch. Other than that there might be Futakoi, I My Me! Strawberry Eggs, Inazuma Eleven, Lucky Star.

Or if you like boy romance, there's always Loveless. :P

But outside of what you're looking for, I'd highly suggest Hunter x Hunter 2011, my favorite anime by far, I own all of the dvds of the original series.

Well, it doesn't fall under "highschool", but you should definitely watch Puni Puni Poemi. Just 2 eps of pure comedy (with a bit of romance!) awesomeness.

I was just about to say I don't know any anime that quite fit that category since i am more of an shounen(action) guy but I just remembered that Ben-To and Highschool of the dead are great short animes and fit your genre, they are still a quite actiony though. Also Sword Art Online is good.

Solar Adventure is really good. I think it may be more like middle school age, but they turn into high schoolers. Anyway, great movie.

Im having so much fun with Tonari ni kaibutsu-kun this season, it's a romance/comedy shoujo, and have just 5 episodes atm, so it's easy to catch up

If you don't mind a little ecchi, I want you to give Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo a try. It seems to have potential, bonus points for the main character having the same voice actor as Kirito (since you watch SAO).

If you want something a bit milder but still funny as heck, go with the others who suggested Tonari ni kaibutsu-kun (it is also known as My Little Monster on Crunchyroll)
