It happens something weird to me: I added the CoH retail key ages ago (adding a retail key was always possible, but it never really worked as intended and the game couldn't actually be downloaded with Steam).

When I try to add the CoH key to Steam now, it tells me the key is already used by another account. I click on the retrieve account (or whatever the name in English is) button and I get the e-mail to my account :P So, for some reason, the key is activated on my account but Steam is somewhat confused about that :P

This happened to me when I tried to activate a copy I got with a video card. It registered on Steam as a beta and never let me play it. Steam Support said that it was not available. We'll see what happens.

It's rare to hear of a game being supported in any way after this long and with a sequel in the horizon. I think kudos is in order to the devs for doing this. Now, as to that Amazon CoH GOTY key...

It could be bad press to see CoH1's online shut down right before CoH2's launch. That's a tactic that annoys fans, and could cost them some of their dedicated fanbase.

I'm not trying to make it sound like a marketing ploy, though. From the sound of the release, it sounds like they honestly do want to continue to support their community. They just happened to run into a bad situation with their server support, and it happened at a bad time (while they were focusing on CoH2 and THQ going under), and they've managed to work out a solution. It is certainly something that some other devs, and certainly some other publishers, wouldn't have gone through the effort to address even if they wouldn't have intentionally pulled the plug themselves.

i gave my Amazon key from the THQ Bundle to someone in the Backlog Attack group, and they were able to activate it fine. Gave them the base game.
