For awareness, hiding problematic games, informing or reporting incorrect giveaways.
Pro tip: When creating giveaways, you can search by App ID too.

/!\ Always double-check your wins. If they do not match with what you activated, you will get a red flag and risk being blacklisted by other members, being unable to enter gated GA's, and possibly a suspension.

Truth, but everyone knows that. It's pretty much folklore.

It might be a "me" problem, but I once created a giveaway for Rover Mechanic Simulator when it was meant to be Mech Mechanic Simulator. And that's when I learn to create GAs using AppId instead of game name

Yup! Now every time I buy a bundle, I check the bundle page created by Lily and copy the AppID from there. Never had that issue again!

There doesn't seem to be a problem with these two though. Hard to mix them up.

Really close one (and because literally same game, just a re-release) :
Grind Zones (banned in 2018 / drops cards) & Grindzones (banned in 2022, don't drop cards).
The drop from indiegala gameplay giveaways is the 2018 banned ones.

The delisted Run Away which can be won in the IG gameplay giveaway is frequently confused with this Run Away

Not sure if I'm understanding the thread correclty, but I once gave away a key for https://store.steampowered.com/app/950950/In_The_Dark/ thinking it was a key for https://store.steampowered.com/app/2142040/In_the_Dark/

A pair of games that come to mind when this subject is brought up are Dark Matter and Dark Matter, and now there seems to be a third game called Dark Matter. There's even some similar titles that could potentially be confused like Redux: Dark Matters.

I'm pretty sure that there's several twin games on Steam that share a title but have nothing in common.

It isn't a frequently given game, but all but of the Star Girls giveaways (except for the first 3 by Exodust) are for the wrong game. SG only has the version of Star Girls that is still available on steam, but all the non-Exodust giveaways provided keys for the delisted Star Girls.

Have you noticed it being an issue though? i've been browsing through a sizeable bunch of GAs for both and haven't noticed anything. (mistakes can happen)

One possible issue with this game could be due to LootBoy keys, which use the wrong Name/Logo combo. The key I received from LootBoy stated in the description it was for Pumped BMX + but the logo clearly stated Pumped BMX Pro (see the logo on the BMX Pro steam page). I made the giveaway for BMX + and thankfully that was correct, but I could see someone just glancing at the logo and thinking it was BMX Pro.

I have come across a number of winners who have been flagged by sgtools for this very thing.
I also got bailed out by an entrant to one of my giveaways:- I usually state where I got the game from when gifting it and on this occasion an entrant pointed out I was gifting the wrong version of a game. The version I picked out was a removed version instead of the current version.

The winner can easily check by going back to the game giveaway, after activating their key, and clicking on the giveaway game link. This will show them that the game advertised as gifted has indeed been the one they won (or not).

Recently had a winner that had won Leaves - the Journey but he had Leaves - the Return on his account. Since I always use sgtools to check my winners, this is an issue, both for me and the eventual winner, as it takes time to check and takes support time to complete their assessment as well.

What about games that have two names? You got the key with a name, game changes name, and there's ruckus.

i actually confused once "Dead Space (2008)" https://store.steampowered.com/app/17470/Dead_Space_2008/ and "Dead Space" https://store.steampowered.com/app/1693980/Dead_Space/.
it was an old key on humble and it just said "Dead Space". not knowing that a new version came out and that it was pretty recent as well i made a GA with "Dead Space" instead of "Dead Space (2008)". sadly humble doesnt provide steam links in their key list.

I wonder if it's necessary to add all games that have reboots and remakes like this. It seems fairly obvious that it's the 2008 game and not the one with a much higher number App ID. If anything, they're shown one next to the other with links to each.

the thing is in that case that i had the key via humble.
in their list it just names the game by name, no app id or anything.
so when creating the GA i was only able to go by name and humble just called the game "Dead Space", without (2008).
i didnt know the game had a remaster, and of course i didnt know that the old version was renamed instead of the new version getting some "remaster" suffix or anything. i just went by name.
i only noticed that i made a mistake because many ppl were REALLY thankful for the GA and that made me wonder.

Always use the AppID. It can be used in creating SG giveaways, Steam Store, SteamDB, Google. Problem solved.

All the GAs for https://www.steamgifts.com/game/E3h3F/tower-stacker are actually the delisted https://www.steamgifts.com/game/wfQx2/tower-stacker and none of the people marking them as received have the game in their account.

https://www.steamgifts.com/archive/search?q=Cosmic%20Collapse
People who created giveaways for https://store.steampowered.com/app/2707300/Cosmic_Collapse/ actually gave away keys for https://store.steampowered.com/app/860000/Cosmic_collapse/
I sgt checked winners of the first game and, wouldn't you know it, Cosmic Collapse is marked as not activated gift because the key was actually for the second game.

Mind you, only one person actually went ahead and made that mistake, and the only other giveaway was deleted before the mistake was caught, but I thought I'd share since I almost committed this mistake myself.

TELETEXT
TEEFAX aka TEEFAX: Cold Case

Hey, apparently Indiegala or the dev mixed up the keys in a bundle indeed. But after checking the archive as well as the winners of all GAs, there doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

I know about the indiegala issue, as I've won teefax before and got teletext instead, before resolving the issue with the gifter.
I just posted to increase the awareness, so it hopefully wouldn't happen again. 🙂
