This may interest you all: Diablo 3 bans not based on Linux software, says Blizzard

TL;DR:
"We've extensively tested for false positive situations, including replicating system setups for those who have posted claiming they were banned unfairly," he writes. "We've not found any situations that could produce a false positive, have found that the circumstances for which they were banned were clear and accurate, and we are extremely confident in our findings.
"Playing the game on Linux, although not officially supported, will not get you banned – cheating will."

If that's true, is awesome to see how fast blizzard is going downhill.

Just because of this i would love blizzard to go bankruptcy. I love diablo and also love to use linux. And have been playing diablo 2 on linux for long time. But this is f****d.

As long as blizzard is attached to Activision there wont be a shortage of money. unfortunately

I think the OP of that thread is just using it as an excuse.

Someone posted in the thread, that the OP was the only one who claimed to have been banned. He used quotes and names from other people, but they haven't posted. So essentially we only know for sure that one person has been banned.
I'm willing to believe that Blizzard is being a dick about this, I'd just like to see more evidence before I condemn them out of hand. You know, like people claim they're doing to players.

Unfortunately, I can't look at the steam forums right now (blocked by my workplace), but I went to WineHQ, and couldn't find a thread about it. I found several threads about performance issues with D3 on Wine, but nothing about people being banned. If you could post his link here, I'd love to check it out.

Then there is this.. OP of that thread cheated IMO.

Haha, I run my Windows through a VM in Linux! Lets see them try to figure that out!

Wait, wait, wait... So what that dude is saying is that Linux users got banned from D3 but he doesn't have an actual proof? Well, that means that another cheater is just trying to get through this and get rid of his ban. There are no information from any other player only from that one dude who "quoted" someones messages. That's just sad how one little cheater can whine about nothing...

The number of complaints compared to the tens of thousands of Linux users playing Diablo III is simply insignificant. The guy obviously cheated.
But also I'm pretty sure WINE counts of unapproved third party software for the launching on Linux and violates the EULA anyway.

I'm not saying they are banned for using WINE, infact my first line clearly defends that... I'm just stating it does actually break their EULA

never understood why people try to game in linux in the 1st place

free OS, free software, mostly more advanced users.. lets call them cheaters! People try to play games in linux coz they dont wanna use crappy windows? Its obvious when ur using win or linux or w/e as ur main OS u'd wanna do everything in it.. It's like saying why would you use linux to watch porn?

Oh for gods sake people, can we seriously just hop off of the "Fuck Blizzard" bandwagon here?
You CAN run Diablo III through Wine, without it getting picked up as cheating. The reason that guy got picked up as cheating, WAS PROBABLY BECAUSE HE WAS CHEATING.
Okay, only a FEW members who use Linux, have been banned for cheating. THERE ARE PLENTY OTHERS, WHO USE WINE, WHO ARE NOT BANNED. They have had plenty of time to be banned in this, but they have not been. Whatever they picked up as cheating, it wasn't wine.
The headline may as well be Windows users permanently banned from Diablo III. Because y'know, I'm sure there are some people who were playing Diablo III on windows, and they were permanently banned, IT'S OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE THEY WERE ON WINDOWS, RIGHT?!?!
I'm not even a fan of blizzard, but what I'm saying is, LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP, PEOPLE. I'm not the first one to be explaining this by far, so why are you people still posting that sorta shit? Quite a few people have already explained this, that it does not seem to be LINUX causing this, but the fact they are cheaters.

bahahahahahaha. That's why you game on a PC, program on a linux, and if you're mentally ill use a Mac.
