Yeah, what the title says. We received him from a friend almost a year ago, who told us it was a female kitten. We named her Jazmin (you could translate that to Yasmine, Jazmine, Yasmin, or something like that). Alright, two hours ago I took her to the vet to castrate her, and I just received a call from them, telling me that I should start looking for another name, because it was a male cat. So, yeah... I'm still pretty shocked. Anyways, should I still call him Jazmin or what? Any name suggestions?

I too agree that Jazz is the most appropriate name. I had the same problem. We started suspecting something when our female cat started humping a towel. It was called Shashka (I'm from Ukraine) and we were stupefied as to how to rename him. He resolved our problem promptly by running away. F***er.

How is that unsettling for you?

Because castration means the removal of testicles. To sterilise a female cat, you SPAY it. Says something! ;D

Because "castrate" = cutting their bollocks.
"Neutering" is the term you were looking for.

Anyway, you could have told he was a male by the whiskers ;)

Or the look of terror on its face at the word castration! :D

It was a joke: unlike humans, female cats normally have whiskers too.

Oh I thought it was supposed to be a thing since even a vet I went to got my cat's gender wrong :P

anyways, silliness aside, just roll with Jaz / Jazz. Saves confusion, sounds good. :)

That would have been a better term to be used by the OP - but not as funny considering the subject of not realising the cats true gender.

My thoughts exactly. I'm surprised you're the first to suggest it here.

I think I've known two people who had this problem. For example, my brother's cat was named Oliver, and he changed it to Ollie when the vet told him it was a girl.

I think Jaz(z) or Jazmine would be best. Changing the name to Aladdin would be interesting though, haha.

Good luck finding a name :)

I use to have a cat named hoodini not because we didn't know she was a girl but because she kept disappearing and popping up behind us

Hahahaha, as a kid we've had a similar problem with our dog:

When we bought Lucky, it was a guy. The vet confirmed it was a guy, the breeder confirmed it was a guy.

A while later, she got her period... Awkward

Anyways, if he listens to the name, just keep it.

my uncle and aunt had a female cat called Tobias ( a male name) - confusing as hell, but in the end it's just a name

Dogs get periods?

Not technically a period like humans experience, but dogs (and cats and other mammals) will go into heat and bleed from their lady parts. If they haven't been spayed, of course.

Even the vet I took my cat too thought my female cat was a male since it was too young to tell.

That's what happens when you assume someone's gender.

Also, I agree with Fame, Jazz sounds fine.
